The Madame Blanc Mysteries: Episode #1.6 (2021)
Lazy
Feels like the writers were set to finish the series but then the show got renewed and they cut out a sensible ending and put in a terrible one that gives no explanation why Jean stays, just so they can have un saison deux.

West Michigan (2021)
Awkward
Dialogue sounds scripted not genuine. Awkwardly self aware. Not my cup of tea but can see how some might like this.
The Marriage of Figaro (2010)
Fine version of Mozart's classic.
Having seen a version at The Met in the 1970s, I see this as a wonderful, different version. Made even more bawdy, as it should be for today's audience. Really appreciate the option of Italian or English captions.
The Princess Bride: The Untold Tales (2007)
It's fine
Found this in the 30th anniversary 2 DVD set. There are several interview shorts that are included and even better.
Bubble (2005)
Really enjoyed this DVD
I really enjoyed this DVD. Especially after seeing Pirates II the day before. complete opposite in terms of overall complexity. But actually more engaging than Pirates. Johnny, Keira and Orlando as the main 3 actors in Bubble? Wouldn't work. Low key actors is the key to this film. The sets and scenery are genuine too. The plot is the classic intrigue. The alternate ending would have detracted from that. The ambiguity of certain scenes adds to the interest. The DVD extras are enjoyable as well. Soderbergh's commentary was interesting. The interviews of the main actors, also good. The alternate ending is worth checking out. The "making of" segment, also enlightening.
The River (1951)
Really enjoyed this DVD
Watched the Criterion Collection DVD just released and the interview with Director Renoir was a joy. He's quite a character. Scorcese's interview had some spoiler material,so watch AFTER the movie. Rumer Goden BBC documentary is as beautiful as the movie. The movie itself is almost a documentary in the cinematography. Many of the people aren't professional actors, but that isn't a problem. Hard to believe that Valerie plays Julie Christie's mom in just 14 years in Dr Zhivago, and then is in A Clockwork Orange. I would assume that much of the "native" events are real and not contrived, but unless you're a native from the 1950's, I'm not sure how you would know. It certainly seems a big step up from Gunga Din.
