Bad, but fascinating
9 December 2003
It's bad. Normally I would not waste my time watching a bad movie (that I know beforehand will be bad), but at the same time it is fascinating. I guess what fascinates me and other swedish viewers is the fact that this is really CAMP. It is funny sometimes - and corny most of the time, but that is part of the charm. I will watch out for the other Åsa-Nisse movies as they are shown at odd hours on some TV channel, because they are part of our heritage. Don't ask me why, though.

Very interesting documentary
2 May 2003
This is a film about a married couple in Nicaragua that the director has followed for some 15 years up to the end of 1999. It is very interesting and at the same time depressing to see the difficult conditions people have to live through in this dirt poor community called San Fernando. You leave the film wanting to know more - and I hope there will be a follow-up in 5-10 years from now.

Corny documentary
1 May 2002
A truly corny documentary, but I am sure there were some amazing scenes for the people of 1940. The speaker, who seems to be the director as well, Stig Wesslén, says it took six years to make the movie; and I cannot help wondering what took six years, as there are only five or six different episodes. Anyway; badly filmed and very strange commentaries (dialogue) during the film. Anyway; compared to today's documentaries this is very bad; but in 1940 it was certainly interesting to watch bears and wolves and so on from the northern part of Sweden.

Even grown-up men do cry!
13 March 2000
Well, I usually do not weep watching a movie, but this dog Fluke made me shed tears from beginning to the (somewhat bitter) end. The story is completely unbelievable, so what!, but very funny all the way. Can't understand what those people's hearts are made of that do not like a story like this. I'd rather watch Fluke ten times than Rambo once!

Depressing documentary
11 February 2000
This documentary is more black than white, not only because of the very dark period in history it portrays, but also because of the excessive use of stills, instead of moving pictures. It is very well done, but I feel it should have been still more interesting if it hadn't been so slow. I understand that the director would like us to have time for thought while seeing it, but it's definitely too slow. Anyway, see it if you've got the chance, as it painstakingly explains the views of respected doctors and scientists about race. The most chilling scene is a clip from "The Black Stork" from 1917.

Very funny indeed!
8 February 2000
This is a very funny movie if you like the Spanish comedies from the mid-70's (which I do). The whole movie takes place more or less in the same room, so it's rather like a filmed theatrical performance. The actors are two of the funniest Spanish actors ever, Lina Morgan and Alfredo Landa. This film was made during the "Apertura", a period in Spain when the transition from Franco to democracy took place. Almost every Spanish film from these years is about sex, this one too, but in a most decent way. Anyway, I think you will have to understand Spanish to enjoy it, as I doubt it will ever be translated.

Worth watching!
8 August 1999
I really liked this short movie (55 minutes on TNT), mostly because of a very young John Wayne and a lovely Ruth Hall. There are some serious flaws (like when the villain leaves Duke with John Wayne out in the desert), but overall a very enjoyable film.

The cartoon was better!
27 December 1998
Rather pleasant movie but the cartoon version was definitely better. More could have been accomplished with the lovely little puppets - they should have focused on a few of them. Now there were too many puppets all the time. Glenn Close is a magnificent witch in most movies, Jeff Daniels must be a very kind person in real life and Joely Richardson is sweet, perfect for this kind of movie.

Only for fans of military comedies!
27 December 1998
One of the poorer movies about 91:an Karlsson, a Swedish recruit, and strictly for fans of silly military jokes. This film is too new (...) to feel nostalgic and I long for some of the better 91:an movies like "91:an Karlssons permis" from 1948!

One of the better movies about 91:an Karlsson!
27 December 1998
This is the oldest, and so far the best, movie about Private 91:an Karlsson I have seen. Maybe it is just because it is over 50 years old and you tend to be more forgiving when it comes to plot quality and performance the older the movies (and you) are?
