A bit disappointing
30 July 2000
After all the pre viewing hype I found this mini series to be not as good as I had hoped for.The story line was confusing and the acting left something to be desired.Lisa McCune in her first major role tried hard to be the heroine but she did not fit the part as a London cockney and her accent was false. However for an Aussie production it was quite good viewing and such series should be encouraged.

Strange but compelling

I really enjoyed this movie, although for a while I was unsure as to whether it was meant to be a drama, science fiction, or comedy.

I think I understood the surprise ending. The acting, locations and period dress where all excellent as you would expect from the British who really know how to make such movies. I gave it 8/10.

A pleasant surprise

This is a movie I switched onto by accident, and then really enjoyed it.OK so the storyline was predictable and provided an excuse for the viewers to feel sad and shed a few tears. It is one of those movies that has no violence or sex and can be enjoyed by the whole family.Maybe I am too sentimental but I gave it 9/10.

A good effort

This is quite a good movie. The plot was realistic and the acting was up to standard from a professional cast.It was probably made with next years Olympics in mind,as the location is Sydney which shows that City as a beautiful place to be in (not quite true). I would have given this 6/10,but have added an extra point as the star of the movie..Amanda Douge is gorgeous.Well worth a viewing.

A gem of a movie

I really enjoyed this movie set in King Charles glorious days. The scenery, acting and story were all great and Meg Ryan put on a passable Irish accent.I suppose that there will always be nit pickers like myself, and although Purcells great music was played throughout the movie,he would have only been five years old when these events took place.Still,I recommend this one and if you enjoy it try and also view'England my England'which is set during the same period.

Most enjoyable

A nice film with great scenery and top class acting.Gwyneth Paltrow was good in the title roll, but somehow she did not remind me of the girl described in Jane Austens book. Here in Australia the film was shown on commercial TV and as usual would have been ruined by 10 breaks for advertisements.Luckily I was able to watch it after taping.

Trust (2000 TV Movie)
A compelling movie

This is a good English movie. The plot was well thought out,and the standard of acting was high, which you would expect from the cast of seasoned personnel. My only complaint was that the movie seemed to be stretched out and maybe could have run for 20 minutes less.

Breathtaking

This would have to be the best three hours of viewing I have seen in years. The acting, locations and costumes were spot on. Mr.Dickens was probably turning in his grave at some of the 'adjustments'made to his original story.but I don't think this spoiled the viewing in any way.You have to give the English credit, they surely know how to make historical type movies.

Very pleasant movie

I watched this by chance on a cold winter's afternoon. It turned out to be a treasure beautifully filmed and acted. One of those old fashioned movies with no sex or violence etc.The story was very predictable..but who cares?. I predict a bright future for Emily Hamilton who played Lucy.I gave it 9/10.

This was a surprisingly good movie. The plot and acting was good.Whoever composed the background music needs a few musical lessons..but the movie was worth 8/10.

A good movie

only watched this movie by chance, but found it surprisingly good. The story and acting were very realistic,e specially the acting of Claudia Karvan in the lead role. I had never heard of this lady but she should secure a good career in movies on the strength of this performance. It helped also that the film location was in York, Western Australia, a district I am familiar with. Gave the movie 8/10.

brilliant

a brilliant movie, and a great idea to use the same cast in going to and fro between 17th and 20th century England.Only the Brits can make movies like this one.The music of Purcell was superb. Thank goodness that I taped it and can view it again at leisure. (PS I recognised the actress who played Purcell's wife as the one who plays the dumb Australian waitress in the series 'Pilgrims Rest'

BORING
17 January 1999
One of the most boring movies I have ever seen. Was it supposed to be a comedy or a drama?? .The high profile cast must have nightmares about this one. Even the presence of Julia Roberts could not raise any interest. Absolutely awful.
