Politiki kouzina (2003)
Most touching.. and realistic
Having strong bonds with the story behind this movie I have to say that it is one if not the best Greek movie I have watched in my life. It touches sensitively on subjects that by many can be considered wrong to talk about and presents them in the nicest way without diverting from the history. The political turmoil as well as the relationships of people living in Polis (Istanbul) are highlighted and the key figures although play minor role in the events that happen around them still steal the interest by presenting how simple yet "rich" in taste their life was. Coming from a family that was as well deported (using a modest word here for what really happened) from home lands, the movie touched me in so many ways. I think it deserves a 10/10 and is highly recommended.. not only for the Greeks that can relate to the story but for anyone who can appreciate a good story.
The Last Samurai (2003)
Something missing 8/10
It is a good movie altogether but I strongly felt that it has been chopped heavily to adjust the length of the movie to what is considered a good time length.
Some parts suffered greatly due to this rendering the movie at points uninteresting or boring even puzzling without passing the required message. I enjoyed watching it but these issues I mentioned weakened what could have been a movie for Oscars..
Lack of focus.. but I'd like to see the editor's cut...
Equilibrium (2002)
Interesting Orwellian Parody
I must admit that I was quite entertained and consider this film a very good film. 8/10
It was an interesting mix of George Orwell and Whacofski Brothers.. bringing Matrix and the concept of 1984 in the new millenium. Nice action scenes which don't separate it from Matrix apart from the story line but poor costumes. Good acting and photography and pretty nice f/x.
I guess if I hadn't watched 1984 and Matrix I would considered the movie a master piece but at the moment it only acts as a decent approach to immitate its predecessors. I would gladly watch it again and I'm buying the DVD as it is worth it.
I would say its a must see!!!
Memento (2000)
Good but tiring....
It was a nice movie to watch to start with and it rolled out nicely with this different approach.... but the fact was that it was getting the viewer tired to watch after a while. Kept you alert and confused all the time.. pleasent movie but needs a clear head... don't see it after having a pint of beer!
Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000)
Indeed gone in 60....
Good action and interesting plot. Having seen the original I must say it was an interesting improvement and showed more of the movie. Good cast .. meaningful acting.. although it would nice to see some more expansion in the action scenes rather than the background story. Fun movie to watch and keeps you alert all the time 7/10 is a right vote I think!
Les Misérables (1998)
... very touching!
Must be one of the best adaptations I have seen..! I don't know how it would be more possible to stick to the actual story of the book!
Really amazing acting although I found it a bit short in length. It could benefit from some more intermediate plot. Or expanded scenes. A really 'must see' movie.
U-571 (2000)
Less than expected...
A nice movie in general.. that is if you enjoy war movies. Acting was average, plot was a bit predictable and even though it was based on a true story it could have benefited from some more action. Special effects were very good. Overall it would be a nice film to watch on TV but not in the Cinema.
The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain (1995)
Moving, romantic, funny and "different"
A very touching film that keeps your interest from beginning to end with nice scenery and very smooth change from one scene to the other. Pretty accurate on facts and with the proper dose of humour.
