That '70s Show (1998)
Fox makes fun of me and my friends and I laugh
Not only did I grow up during this same era, I also happened to grow up in Wisconsin. It's about as accurate as you can get. Anyone who is leaving posts saying the 70's weren't like that didn't live through them here.
I'd just like to 'fix' a couple things. Beer cans still had PULL TABS back then (Red is clearly seen opening a beer that has a pull up/push down thing like they do now).
Fes is the character's name, NOT FEZ. It sounds like FEZ but the fact is, it stands for Foreign Exchange Student. Either no one can pronounce his real name, no one cares, or it's just part of the running gag that we know nothing about his ethnicity or where he's from...
Personally, I love all the local references that probably go right over the head of people unfamiliar with Wisconsin. The Ski trip to Alpine Valley, the Disco in Kenosha, "God, would it kill you to let the Packers have a winning season?" (although, the date that episode was set, the Packers were actually 3-3, look it up)
Did I mention that Eric is the spitting image of my brother?
Anyways, here's hoping this show gets good enough ratings to last for many seasons...
Pecker (1998)
Not John Waters' best film
I've seen almost every film John Waters has made, and Pecker ranks among the bottom third. There is little here that is interesting, shocking, or funny. The characters are typical Waters' white trash, but they, as well as Waters, seem to be merely going through the motions.
Maybe I'm just jaded since my introduction to John Waters was a double bill of Pink Flamingos and Desperate Living 15 years ago...
Homebodies (1974)
All the neighboring buildings are being demolished for a new development, but these tenants won't give up their homes without a fight.
I saw this movie when I was about 8 and it gave me a serious case of the heebeejeebies. So much so that here, over 20 years later, I still remember it. Its horror value isn't based on a lot of gore, or startles, but just plain creepy situations. It's worth renting, although it will probably seem pretty tame by today's standards.
