The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (1962)
Ford all wrong.
Although this lavish production of a Hemmingwayesque story tried very hard, the casting of the over 45 year old Glenn Ford was a big mistake. His part of an international playboy should have gone to someone in their early 30's, with a more cavalier, rakish personality. I adore Glenn Ford, but for crying out loud, he's the essence of the stalwart American man. I can only think Jimmy Stewart would have been a worse choice. Two and a half hours didn't help this movie either. With better editing, and a slight change of casting this could have been a very good movie.
One Minute to Zero (1952)
Hubba Hubba
Robert Mitchum is at his masculine best (what other way has he ever been?) in this movie. Boy, do those shoulders seem massive when crushing little Ann Blyth with his kisses. Study her face. She's just exquisite. Who cares about the War. The Romance is the thing.
Salmonberries (1991)
Weird
This is one of the strangest movies I've ever seen. Half the time you can't tell if you're watching a dream sequence or it's actually part of real time. It may be all my fault. I enjoy the classic movies from the 40's and 50's with stars like Greer Garson, Robert Mitchum, James Stuart, John Wayne , Gregory Peck, etc. I was saddened to see one of Chuck Connors last acting efforts be such an embarrassent.
