O Mecanismo (2018)
Best movie ever about Brazil's politics.
That's what politics is Brazil is all about. Corruption has been around in Brazil for a long while. But the PT governments Lula and Dilma from 2003 to 2015 took it to a new level, raised it to a new outlandish league of their own, and in the process, ripping off the brazilian state billions of dollars, and setting up the largest scheme of bribery in world's recent history. What you'll see in this series is the actual battle that took and is still taking place in Brazil between an investigative judge, and powerfull gangsters disguised as politicians. This feferal judge, federal attorneys and marshalls are Brazil's umtouchables. Don't even thinknof missing it !
Insidious (2010)
Insidious attack on one's intelligence.
Do not watch this "movie". They've managed to blend every possible horror cliché into one single film (which is no small feat, I must concede).
It's the most obvious collection of teenager scares of all time ! Poorly written, awfully acted. And don't be mistaken: It's not the story that sometimes does scare the audience, but the sudden bursts of sound blasting your brains away when the director wants to have you scared.
And yes, he did scare me, for I got pretty afraid that the soundtrack onslaught on my speakers would cause damage to them, so I turned off the whole thing and went back to my book.
Awful !
Role Models (2008)
Is this a movie ? No, it's an asteroid !
As soon as it hits a screen, it destroys all intelligent life forms around ! But on behalf of its producers I must say it doesn't fall into any known movie category, it deserves a brand new denomination of its own ! It's a "Neurological drama" ! It saddens and depresses every single neuron inside a person's brain.
It's the closest thing one will ever get to a stroke without actually suffering one. It drives you speechless, all you members go numb, your mouth falls open and remains so, and the most strange symptom of all is that you get yourself wishing to go blind and deaf.
No small feat for such a sort of a "movie".
The only word that comes to my mind just having finished my ordeal is OUTRAGE !!!!!!
A Pál-utcai fiúk (1968)
A lost (???) Masterpiece.
A superbly crafted film. Ferenc Molnar's play, set in early 20th century's Budapest, is masterfully re-created in this motion picture. It depicts a soothingly naive pre-first war world, when comradeship and honor were still known words. A group of boys fight to keep their playground. But don't let such a simple plot mislead you: This is a very serious and moving film: It displays a world about to deep dive into its first global war, when all naivety would be replaced by evil and malice. Two other later films "Stand By Me" and "The Outsiders" follow the same line, but have a much less ominous background scenario to play upon. A must see.
20th Century-Fox released the film, and it seems they have forgot about it. And they shouldn't have.
Oct/12/2012: Really amazed to find out that "The Boys of Paul Street" has been released in DVD 2 years ago here in Brazil, and I've got myself 2 copies just in case.
The movie has been transferred from a pristine hungarian copy and as such, its dolby 2.0 audio is in hungarian. Unfortunately for the English speaking fans, only Portuguese subtitles are available.
