New Zealand-set detective Series “A Remarkable Place to Die” is being launched by Banijay Rights at the London Screenings.
The 4 x 90’ murder mystery was created by Screentime New Zealand and is co-produced with Real Film Berlin in association with Banijay Rights.
Smart and savvy detective Anais Mallory (portrayed by Chelsie Preston-Crayford) returns to her hometown, Queenstown, in South Island, New Zealand and is met with a series of startlingly different homicides. She has to crack the cases while also picking her way through a backdrop of past ghosts.
(The play on words in the title is a reference to the mountain range surrounding Queenstown, known as The Remarkables, which in summer offer multiple outdoor sports and in winter provide excellent skiing.)
Among the names from her past are Mallory’s ex-fiancé Luke (Charles Jazz Terrier), now married to her former-best friend (Indiana Evans), her brittle, volatile but loving mother (Rebecca Gibney), and a handsome pathologist.

Nine months ago, it was announced that Tessa Thompson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt had signed on to star in Ash, a sci-fi thriller from rapper and filmmaker Flying Lotus, a.k.a. Steven Ellison. Then, two months ago, we learned that Thompson and Gordon-Levitt both had to drop out of the project and were replaced by Eiza González (Baby Driver) and Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad). Filming on Ash is now underway, with González and Paul in the lead roles – and Deadline has revealed that they’re being joined in the cast by Beulah Koale (Hawaii Five-o), Kate Elliott (The Gulf), and Iko Uwais of the Raid films.
González will be playing a woman who wakes on a far-flung planet to find her crew mysteriously murdered. When a man (Paul) comes to investigate the scene, she must decide if she can trust him or if he’s responsible for her series of unfortunate events.

The holiday season is almost here and Amazon Prime is getting in the mood with its list of December 2021 releases. Sure there are the usual Christmas movies to be found but the real gift this month are two big original titles.
The sixth and final season of beloved sci-fi series The Expanse premieres on Dec. 10. Amazon is doing its usual release strategy of three episodes on the premiere day followed by a weekly schedule so there’s still some time to be spent with the crew of the Rocinante. The other big ticket item is the Desi and Lucy biopic Being the Ricardos on Dec. 21. Sure, Aaron Sorkin seems to be completely disinterested in I Love Lucy and Nicole Kidman bears no passing resemblance to the iconic comedienne whatsoever but uh…it’s a movie!

Real Film, the Berlin-based co-producer of the hit Emmy-winning Netflix series “Unorthodox,” looks set to continue its recent success with a slew of hard-hitting fact-based series.
The Studio Hamburg subsidiary is focusing on German-language productions aimed at the international market, including a take on one of the biggest automotive industry scandals in history and an exploration of Germany’s role in international money laundering. It’s also expanding its international activities, including a project with Greg Silverman’s Stampede Ventures.
“Our shows and films tend to be based on real life events or characters,” said Real Film managing director Henning Kamm (one of Variety’s 2017 Producers to Watch). “That’s really something that I’m personally drawn to. There’s something just magical about real life. They have international appeal, that I’m certain about.”
Among the new miniseries is “Wolf of Wolfsburg,” about the Volkswagen car emissions scandal, which...

AMC Networks’ streaming service Sundance Now has picked up U.S. rights to the literary adaptation “The Secrets She Keeps.”
Based on a novel by Michael Robotham, the noirish drama builds on a chance encounter between two pregnant women in a supermarket just outside of Sydney. Written by Sarah Walker (“Home and Away”) and Jonathan Gavin (“Offspring”), and produced by Aussie outfit Lingo Pictures, the series will air on Australia’s Network 10 later this year. Dcd Rights is handling international sales for the series, which was recently picked up by the BBC.
