The haunting starts

The meaty bit of the story as it were, which sees Scrooge visited by the spirits. Here he's visited by The Ghost of Christmas past, and is made to witness some of his past tragedies, and more recent acts of tyranny.

I found Part one a bit of a mixed bag, this second episode was much better, improved pacing, gritty beyond belief, but there was an engagement with Scrooge that had somehow not been there previously. We get to learn more about the character, and the events that turned him into the monster before us.

Pearce continues to impress as Scrooge, Kayvan Novak was awesome as Ali Baba.

Hooked. 9/10

Scrooge's awakening commences.

The Ghost of Christmas past pays a visit to Ebeneezer Scrooge, as his visitation by three spirits begins.

This was excellent, it was gritty, intense, and gave a new dimension to the character. He had a dreadful childhood, and some of the events in his youth shaped him into the callous, money grabbing tyrant we witnessed in part one. The only relief coming in the form of Ali Baba, Kayvan Novak was excellent as the fictional character.

Pearce continues to shine, as do the superb production values, it looks big budget, and is incredibly well made. This was excellent. 9/10

Does not let down what the first episode started

In this episode we see our first ghost, more is revealed about Scrooge and it just adds to the brilliance of the Christmas carol, it shows it can be told in many ways. The muppets, a musical and now a dark gritty tone. It's a timeless story from dickens that can be taken in any direction. I love this adaption and it's become my favourite very quickly.

Dark, deep and brooding

A fantastic portrail of the inner workings of Scrooge. In this episode tou get to see the early signs of what really made Scrooge turn from a bad childhood with his wicked father, to undertones of abuse - this is not one for the fainthearted! An adult view on a historical work of art thrust into modern day subjects. Brilliant

Dark dark dark. Brilliantly acted....a great twist on a story told the same way over and over again. How anyone can give this a poor review is beyond me?

Beyond Anything With a Foundation

Things go pretty far south here. Here we have the appearance of the first ghost: the ghost of Christmas past. Scrooge, apparently, was part of a horror story. He was sexually assaulted by the headmaster of his school through an agreement with his father. He gives money to the Cratchitts in exchanged for sexual favors from Mrs. Cratchitt. This is debasing and disgusting. Let's take a tale of redemption and turn it into a sick play where no-one wins. Basically, it says that in this time, there was nothing for anyone, and even the power brokers had no soft side. Scrooge wasn't a miser, only, but a depraved, sick man.

Episode 2

Well the first episode is done and Scrooge so far has yet to journey with the Ghost of Christmas Past.

If this funereal pace continues, it will be New Years Day by the time Scrooge discovers the true meaning of Christmas.

Well we get a good idea why Scrooge has psychological issues. His dad had a special arrangement with the headmaster of the school. Young Ebenezer was the headmaster's special present for Christmas Day.

When Mrs Cratchit asks the elder Scrooge for some money for Tiny Tim's medical treatment, well he offers it as a gift in return for sexual favours.

At least it offers a more realistic view of Victorian values. It was all about exploitation.

However it reallys need to ramp up the pace for the final episode. No way was this suitable as a three part series.

The second episode is real remarkable portrait of the roots for behavior of Scrooge. Spectacular use of technology and admirable steps design of the first years. Victorian atmosphere, Dickens at high level, the marks of biography being obvious, the fairy tale of Ali Baba as good tool and the meet of dame Crutchid and Scrooge profound intense. The courage to give a portrait, realistic in each detail, of a period and people of it . And a real virtue - at the new reading of the novel, it will be, scene by scene, different by what you know. So, you understand. Not only the meanings or the purpose of the serie but, maybe, the frame of the novel itself.
