Reactor number 4 in the Chernobyl nuclear power plant exploded in 1986.
The Soviet Union tried to contain how catastrophic it was but its impact was felt throughout the rest of Europe as radiation was carried by the winds.
This documentary looks at the landscape that was abandoned by the disaster and sees what has become of the village in the safe zone.
Presenter Victoria Gill goes inside the stricken plant. Chernobyl still managed to produce power with its other reactors long after the 1986 incident.
Wildlife has begun to flourish in the vicinity, an area supposedly abandoned by humans. Yet the soil and water still contains dangerously high levels of radiation.
The village in the safe zone though was hard hit. We see a kindergarten where kids have begun to flourish but there is always a danger of radiation.
This is a short bite sized documentary but to me it only scratched the surface.
