Whining Germans
hunter222501 March 2021
If you want to watch two self centered and entitled Europeans traipsing through Africa, complaining every step of the way, while barely acknowledging the suffering around them, this show may be for you. I only hung around to see if they were going to break up, but the movie ended abruptly with some vanilla platitudes.

A must watch for adventure lovers everywhere
joannecahill4 November 2020
What an amazing movie this is. It captures the lives of two people on the adventure of a lifetime. What a journey and how perfectly edited the move was. It was funny, loving, sad and the scenery was breathtaking. It had everything . This is a must watch.

Two, inexperienced, unprepared people.
motorbike-1197013 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I'm struggling to understand how they managed to get stuck several times and destroy the clutch on a Land Rover 110. This only shows that they had no off-road experience and never driven a 110 before. Preparation for the journey = 2/10.

Millenials on the Road
nugentch-15 August 2020
To be honest I only watched up to the point that Lena began criticizing the Africans for being people of faith and putting her own atheistic values on them. They were ill prepared for this trip and apparently had not done any research on the cultures they would be going through. No, Africa is not like Hamburg... not even close. They should have know that.

Self-indulgent narcissistic garbage
jason-1650323 June 2020
Probably one of the most self indulgent pieces of garbage I've seen in a long time. Lena is so unhappy with her life she must cross Africa and seek the adoration of the people of Africa to stroke her fragile ego. It's like she is doing them a favor by being there. It's all about her and making her feel good. Her anger and indignation over the conditions or events she observes such as the turtle farm incident only highlight her ignorance and lack of understanding of the people with whom she would like to believe she has become friends. She and Ulrich have very strong opinions but are incapable of taking any action at all to correct what they believe are injustices in this world. I'm sure they both feel better, but I guess that is what it is all about.

superficial ethno-kitsch - makes me ashamed of my passport
Radu_A11 October 2020
I've been traveling since I was 15 and spent the majority of my life outside Europe... these two millennials, who decide to travel to South Africa in a 4WD without properly preparing for the trip - I've met people like that many times.

You see them taking advantage of local hospitality, you see them getting taken advantage of. You see them adopting a dog, which functions as a relationship stabilizer until it is eaten by crocodiles, and then they adopt another. They muse about each other and border problems, but fail to connect to anyone even though they're invited many times. In Africa, that's pretty hard to do - instead of getting hooked to some place or some people, they just browse through some of the least developed and therefore most interesting countries of the world, staying on campsites rather than an NGO. Germans are not all like that, if you travel a lot, you will invariably meet German expats as we are everywhere, because we can't stand our lifeless culture.

These two at least admit and address their own naivety and raised some money (for an anti-female circumcision project, even though it's the middle of the Ebola outbreak). But they can't get off their high horse - when a witch doctor looks for the thief of their money (which they left on the seat of their unlocked car), the woman just can't help to point out how primitive these Africans are. So German... always the teacher, never the student.

Instead of watching this vanity project, watch films made by locals about locals, not entitled wannabes who take their shallow opinions wherever they go.

Insufferable, white privilege nonsense
mattjderrick20 August 2021
The levels of self-entitlement here is ridiculous. They are so unhappy in their comfortable, privileged lives that they decide to burn a ton of fossil fuels by driving a Land Rover across Africa. Ulli is completely miserable the whole time, and complains that he doesn't get any time to himself as if he expects to be able to grab a book and his laptop and spend a couple of hours sipping an oat milk latte in Starbucks like he's on holiday. This is pure narcissism and I don't think they even recognised their privilege by the end, instead expecting to be entertained by the locals every place they turn up and complaining about 'issues' they see like turtle farms, rubbish and pollution, but doing nothing about it.

About Africa or Lena and Moaner
zyltech26 September 2021
Coming from Africa and experienced some trips myself, not easy so will credit them on this. But the whining of the guy was so annoying that I actually got excited when he left to go back to Europe half way through. This is one of the worst travel expeditions I've ever seen. No language, culture authenticity of the places were mentioned it was all about them. We don't know you and we're not interested in your home video for future memories. Really bad. And so by the way religion is part and parcel of Africa so your view and opinion is insulting to most of the beautiful people that you have met.

Outstanding authentic and funny travel documentary
chrissirusher4 March 2020
Since I myself worked and lived in Africa for 3 years I had a special connection to the experiences and insights the two got during their travels. It's really like that - as an European (German) you definitely got these problems with the adjustment to the african lifestyle. But after some time it's all good. The people are warm and curious.

For me this is an outstanding authentic and fun travel documentary. A rare one of it's kind. Most others are kind of sugar-coated. If you like it straight in your face - here's your movie. Will definitely watch it again.

A must watch for all would be adventure travellers
grahamxyzch25 March 2020
Sit back and enjoy the adventure of two people living their dreams for real - travelling from Germany to Africa in a Landrover just for the hell of it - tears, laughter and memories shared along with stunning scenery and all the trials of such a trip. The filming captures exactly what to expect and is both creative and stunning - showing the good, the bad and the ugly - just sit back and enjoy!

Great movie about people not Land Rovers
astigae-23-89414410 August 2020
I started watching this because of my love of Land Rover Defenders but carried on because of the honest presentation of long distance, long duration travel and the warmth of the relationships they establish with the local people they meet and work with. Highly recommended.

Great adventure in Africa!
professorhenshaw8 September 2020
I enjoyed every twist in turn of this exciting adventure these two courageous travelers took us on. We got to see many wonderful and beautiful places in Africa. This should be made into a series to tell the full story and the awesome experiences these two had. After watching it you just want more...

Captivating movie
mysteriousdannenberger10 March 2020
I watched the movie with the family and have to say that we all really enjoyed it. Sure enough camera equipment is not the best, but actually that's what makes it immersive; it depends on what one expects of an indie documentary. A film made with high-tech equipment does not always have to be a good film. Everyone who loves traveling can relate to the challenges in the film. You can see the contrast to the "perfect" world in Europe. Poverty is shown and yet people are most of the times happier than many people in the western world. That should give us food for thought. People enjoy little things and live hospitality. If you like animals you will also get your money's worth. I also think it's good that organizations and people are shown who take care of the suffering of street dogs or orphans, for example. Furthermore, environmental problems such as garbage or clearing are addressed and not swept under the carpet. The problem is omnipresent. I can definitely recommend the film!

Adventure movie of the year
imrdublin5 November 2020
What a blast. From start to finish this movie had me glued to my seat. What a naked and honest view of a couple driving across a continent with their dog and sometimes the odd co-star along the way.

The journey was far from perfect and that is reflected in the movie but this couple took everything that went wrong and turned it into a positive. The villages they stopped at along the way showed the other side of life from that of the couple. They spent time learning about the different cultures and meeting, eating and yes dancing with locals.

This was so wonderful to watch and I fully intend to watch it again.

Perfect in every way because it held nothing back and showed the highs and lows. One fabulous documovie. MAKE MORE Please

Absolutely captivating - Ioved every minute
rosiechase-1471815 May 2020
Lena & Ule's journey is so raw and authentic. You will feel all of their joys, frustrations and celebrations with them as they travel. This movie offers a real look into the beauty & essence of what it means to be human and how important it is to have human connection at the forefront of what we do. You discover first hand what it means to embrace your own identity and fearlessly follow your dreams. This movie has inspired me to really value who I am and go after the life I desire. I will be forever grateful, thank you Lena & Ole. Must watch.

Gorgeous movie breathtaking
bernhardschoppmann21 June 2020
The countries Lena and Ulli have visited in Africa are not easy to visit with an old Land Rover. Many of their countries I visited too and could remember many stories watching this movie. With great pleasure I could watch the pictures which are typical in this continent and which are of a high professional quality. By the way Lena and Ulli camped at the foot of The Manantali Dam I was involved during design at feasibility level. Finally they discovered also how friendly they were welcomed despite the poorly in which they are living. I can recommend this movie to all people who like Africa and their people. If you order more than one film you could share the joy watching it with a gift to your friends.

Beautiful and real of Africa
jessievdvyver17 July 2021
Such a beautiful documentary of the pains but overarching and immense joy of traveling through Africa. The realization that the greatest joy of traveling is always the people you meet and memories made. Them a wonderful representation of how Africans have such little means but so much joy and acceptance when things go wrong. Loved it.

bulldog-194594 March 2022
Good to watch a movie that's down to earth about a real life travel adventure. It's about the journey with all the ups and downs of getting out of your comfort zone while traveling.
