Mar's suit can't contain the chronal radiation in his body, and he says that his ambition has doomed them all as the Anti-Monitor appears before him.
At the Vanishing Point in the present, Ryan Choi writes a letter to his dead wife Amanda. He explains that he's one of the seven Paragons but most of them do nothing. Ryan works with Lex to modify the ruined technology there to make a teleportation device. John offers to go out and test the device, but Supergirl volunteers Lex. Lex steps into the device and Ryan activates it, but the teleportation device shorts out. Flash streaks out of the Speed Force and the others tell him that he's been gone for months. Barry says that he went into the Speed Force seconds ago from his perspective, but he couldn't find a way out.
Oliver relives his battles with various villains, then wakes up in Purgatory sitting across from Corrigan. Corrigan asks what he saw, and Oliver says that he sees everything now. His mentor tells him that he's ready, and all of Oliver's battles have led him to the ultimate fight against the Anti-Monitor. Corrigan explains that the Anti-Monitor is the Apocalypse given life and form, and it's time to get Oliver's friends.
Barry says that he has to try again, but the others refuse to let him endanger his life. Supergirl says that they can't turn on each other, and Oliver arrives and says that the Speed Force is the key to saving them... and everyone. Oliver explains that he's more than just Oliver: a spectre in tune with the multiverse. He says that multiverse is gone, replaced with an anti-matter universe, and they have to prevent it from happening. The Anti-Monitor is at the Dawn of Time, trying to make permanent his destructions. Oliver says that they might not be enough and they need a backup plan, and explains that several millennia ago on Maltus, Mar opened a breach to the Anti-Monitor universe. Some of them will fight the Anti-Monitor at the Dawn of Time, and others will go to Maltus to stop Mar. Supergirl, Ryan, and Lex go to Maltus while the others go to the Dawn of Time.
When Barry warns that he can't get into the Speed Force, he suggests that Oliver give him the energy boost he needs to enter it because it's part of the multiverse. Oliver agrees and touches Barry's head, unlocking his potential, but warns that it's dangerous. Barry says that he trusts Oliver, and Oliver tells him to run.
Barry takes Supergirl, Lex, and Ryan to Maltus and leaves them in a nearby forest. Ryan suggests that they access the central database of a nearby city, and Lex slips away.
Running, Barry finds himself in an abandoned Queen Consolidated. Oliver appears and explains that Barry is still in the Speed Force, and that he's lost in the Speed Force as well. He tells Barry that he's using parts of his essence to keep himself, Sara, John, and Kate together. They're at Queen Consolidated because that's what Barry and Oliver first met, and Oliver is using their friends' and allies' memories to keep them from falling out of the Speed Force. If they fall out, they'll be consumed by Anti-Matter. Oliver tells Barry that he needs to get each of them by remembering the moments when the bonds between them were forged.
Oliver disappears, and Barry dons his costume and comes face-to-face with another Flash. The speedster seizes on the name "Flash and likes Flash's bulkier costume. They realize they're both Barry Allan, and Flash asks if Barry is okay. The other Flash fades away saying that he told Victor it was impossible.
Supergirl finds Lex walking through the forest, and Lex says that he's looking for hidden dangers. She figures Lex is planning something and promises to stop him, but Lex is unimpressed. Lex invites Supergirl to ask him what he's up to. When Supergirl does so, Lex says that he's up to universal domination, blasts Supergirl, and says that he upgraded himself when he rewrote the Book of Destiny. Ryan arrives and Lex blasts him unconscious and walks off.
Kate enters a Palmer Tech office where Ray is talking to Oliver about how Oliver has been on a deserted island for five years. Ray says that Felicity isn't seeing Oliver for what he really is, and Oliver tells Ray that he has no idea what Star City is up against. Ray says that he does and is going to stop him, and Oliver turns to see Kate.
At the hangar where the heroes gathered to fight the Dominators, Oliver tells Supergirl that he doesn't trust aliens like her. He asks her for a little bit of space so he can claw back a bit of normalcy. J'onn appears, transforms into John, and says that the reason he's there is a long story.
Ryan wakes up and goes to Supergirl, waking her up. They head for the city and Ryan wonders why he's there when he has no powers. He wonders if the others got the right guy, and Supergirl tells him that he left his family because someone he never met was special. She figures that Lex is going to change history to his advantage, and picks Ryan up and flies off.
Superman faces John Deegan, and Flash arrives. On a rooftop above, Arrow fires an energized arrow and shoots the Book of Destiny out of Deegan's hand. Flash realizes that he wasn't there originally, and Superman catches Lois. As the three heroes compare notes, they see Flash and realize his costume is different. Flash talks to Oliver privately and says that he's in the Speed Force. Oliver remembers everything and says that Flash and Supergirl were fated to save the world. Flash remembers that Oliver made some kind of devil's bargain with the Monitor to save them, and Oliver tells him that dying was the easy part. The real heroes are the ones who have to keep going, and Oliver tells Flash to find the others.
Sara is looking at her dead self. Diggle tells Sara that it's time to put Laurel at rest, and Sara figures that it should have been her. As she looks at the Canary's mask, Diggle tells her to wear it and keep her sister alive. Flash speeds in and stares at them in shock.
Lex enters Mar's lab and tells Mar not to open the portal. When Mar wonders how Lex got in, Lex says that he has an offer for Mar and rendered Xneen unconscious. He tells Mar that his experiment will destroy the universe, including Maltus and Xneen, and he's willing to share his future knowledge with Mar. In return, Lex will need the problems Mar will soon acquire.
Flash touches Laurel and wakes her up, and says that he has to take them away.

Mar finds Xneen and wakes her up, and Ryan tells Mar that he can't open the portal. He explains that an infinite number of lives will be lost, and Mar admits that Ryan is a remarkable individual. In the lab below, Lex and Supergirl blast each other. Supergirl notes all of the things Lex has done, and Lex insists that he just told his stepsister Lena the truth. The two of them blast each other, and Ryan comes in and tells them that he got through to Mar. Flash arrives and speeds Supergirl and Lex to the Dawn of Time where the others are waiting.
The Anti-Monitor tells them that some fates are unavoidable, and summons his shadow demons. The Anti-Monitor says that throughout the Multiverse, there was one Mar that opened the portal even if it wasn't the one Ryan convinced otherwise. Oliver arrives and tells them that they as Paragons they're powerful enough to hold the line while they rebirth the universe. The Dawn of Time is the only place it can happen, and Oliver will light the spark while they fan the flame. He says that they'll know when it's time, and he doesn't know: all he has is trust. First Flash and then the others tell Oliver that they trust him, and attack the Anti-Monitor.
The heroes charge through the shadow demons while on a cliff above, the Anti-Monitor tells Oliver that it's too late. Oliver says that he won't be, and the Anti-Monitor insists that only he is eternal. Flying into the area, the two opponents slam together and then land to face each other.
The heroes continue fighting the shadow demons.
The Anti-Monitor blasts Oliver, who just manages to hold back the anti-matter energy. The two of them engage physically and Oliver tells the Anti-Monitor that he has failed the universe. Energy shoots from his mouth into the sky, and the shadow demons disappear. The heroes below spot Oliver and turn to Lex. Lex figures that as the Paragon of Truth, he can use the one page of the Book to "fan the flame". Supergirl suggests that they focus on the virtues they represent, and the heroes turn to face Oliver and the Anti-Monitor.
The Anti-Monitor screams in pain and Oliver screams in pain. There's an explosion of energy, and Flash speeds Sara up to the cliff where Oliver is dying. Oliver tells Sara to watch over his family, and says that they all did it. They look up to the sky and see a new universe forming. Oliver tells them that the Monitor said he would die, and now there's an end and a beginning. He says that he's at peace and the real heroes are the ones that have to keep going. Oliver tells them to keep going and never stop, and the new world needs Barry and Sara. With that, Oliver dies. They realize that it's the end and the beginning, and Barry thanks Oliver for what he did as Sara hugs him.
