[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Sullivan’s Crossing Season 1 finale “Sins of the Father.”] Talk about a dramatic ending to a season! Sullivan’s Crossing caps off its first ten episodes with Maggie (Morgan Kohan) ready to accept responsibility in court only for her patient’s mother to drop the case (she wanted her to understand what she was going through), looking ahead to a job offer in Boston, and pregnant; Cal (Chad Michael Murray) saying goodbye to his late wife; and Sully (Scott Patterson), after Maggie questioned why he didn’t try to stop her and left, remembered going after her only to hit Lola on her bike — and then he collapsed! Below, Patterson teases what’s ahead after that cliffhanger. At the end of the finale, Sully collapses, and he’d said in the previous episode that he just had a headache. What can you say about what’s going on with him? Because...

Virgin River fans looking for more cozy romantic dramas might find their next favorite series in Sullivan’s Crossing. Both shows feature similar small-town vibes and romantic storylines, which isn’t surprising considering that each is based on a book series by author Robyn Carr and comes from the same producing team. But Sullivan’s Crossing, which premiered in October 2023 on The CW, isn’t just a carbon copy of the Netflix hit, those involved in the show have said.
‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ is ‘its own thing,’ star Morgan Kohan says
In Virgin River, a nurse named Mel Monroe moves from LA to a small town in Northern California after a personal tragedy. In Sullivan’s Crossing, a neurosurgeon named Maggie Sullivan moves to a small town in Nova Scotia after her personal and professional life in Boston is thrown into turmoil. But unlike Mel, who is relocating to a place she’s never been,...

We don’t know much about Cal (Chad Michael Murray) on Sullivan’s Crossing, so every time he opens up to someone, we pay close attention. And TV Insider has an exclusive sneak peek of him talking about his family and past in the episode airing on October 18 on The CW. “I have to say I envy you,” Cal admits to Sully (Scott Patterson). “Family roots, a sense of permanence. I never had any of that growing up. We moved around a lot, were never in any one spot for too long, you know. You’re a lucky man.” But as Sully explains, “It didn’t start out that way. I wanted to travel the world. I moved to the city. That didn’t work out for me. Realized this is where I wanted to stay, raise a family. I guess things don’t always work out the way you expect.

The decision to pick up Sullivan’s Crossing wasn’t a huge departure for the CW; romantic, field-good series like Hart of Dixie, Life Unexpected and Everwood have long been hallmarks of the network..
Still, the show was immediately labeled as a cheap import because it first launched in Canada in March, where it became CTV’s highest-rated drama launch on over two years. It is produced by Reel World Management in association with CTV with Fremantle as global distributor. It’s from Roma Roth and Christopher E. Perry, the team behind Netflix’s Virgin River.
“We have to be entrepreneurial. We can’t just write a $10 million per-episode check for a show with some dragons in it,” President Brad Schwartz said during the upfronts in May.

Riverdale spent its final season back in the 1950s, but it almost hopped its way through the rest of the 20th century, too.
“Originally, when we pitched the season,” showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa tells TVLine, “one of the ideas that we pitched was that the first 13 episodes would be in the ’50s, and then starting around Episode 14 or so, we would start moving in time. So Episode 14 would be set in the ’60s, Episode 15 would be set in the ’70s, and then the ’80s, the ’90s… kind of working through to the present day.”

Returning to The CW
Patterson returned to the network after starring on Gilmore Girls and 90210.
The actor fondly remembers being on the network in 2006 while starring on Gilmore Girls when the network launched.
He says being part of the relaunch is interesting because he believes the network is not messing around now.
"They're a big network getting respect now," he noted, adding that The CW is now in many more homes.
"You can feel the difference, too. It feels like a weighty, large network now with real resources,...

The early aughts are back again — and nowhere is that more clear than in The CW's fall lineup. As part of Nexstar's new strategy, the network is moving away from homegrown originals and filling its schedule with unscripted fare, including axed Max series FBoy Island, and licensed titles like German thriller The Swarm. While these cost-cutting measures come as a direct response to current headwinds in the industry, two of The CW's biggest shows of the fall, Canadian imports Sullivan's Crossing and The Spencer Sisters, are remnants of a bygone era. Specifically, they feel like obvious attempts to capture an audience nostalgic for the small-town charm and interpersonal dynamics of wildly popular Upn (turned CW) hit Gilmore Girls.
