When an animated version of a story is allowed to become more violent than the live-action version, it’s a little confusing, not to mention disappointing since Mortal Kombat came into the public eye as one of the most violent games of all time. But Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge, is one of those representations that creates a colorful and wonderfully violent representation of a story that many people already know but have seen played out in video games and live-action in a lesser manner than many other characters. The thing about Scorpion is that he’s been one of the major

Between the live action reboot of Mortal Kombat and my growing appreciation of the animated Batman films it was pretty much a given that I would check out another of Warner’s animated offerings, Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms.
Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms begins with a couple fleeing through deserted streets before being confronted by a trio of nasty looking creatures. They kill the couple but Raiden (Dave B. Mitchell; Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous) arrives in time to save their baby whom the mother names Liu Kang with her dying breath.
We’re barely a minute in and already there’s a decapitation and a pair of eyes exploding from their sockets.

One of Mortal Kombat 11’s initial creative blunders ended up being one of its greater strengths in the long run. As a bit of stunt casting, NetherRealm decided to replace Mortal Kombat X’s Tricia Helfer with Mma and WWE star Ronda Rousey as the voice of series mainstay Sonya Blade. Considering the excess of dialogue in the game’s story mode and countless pre-fight exchanges, Rousey’s questionable delivery turned a lot of people off on the character. It’s no wonder the studio didn’t bother giving Sonya any lines when Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath added a second story mode campaign.
Belgian DJ Dimitri Vegas also became a Sub-Zero skin and also recorded voice lines for the classic fighter for some reason. As you’d expect, Vegas’ delivery is bad but also hilarious in a “Why does this even exist?” kind of way.

If there’s one thing DC loves, it’s reboots. The comics cycle through their continuity in one form or another every decade or so, the movies…well…that’s a whole thing, too. So of course now it’s time for the DC animated movies to get a fresh start. And this time, they’re doing it with the hero who should pretty much always be the center of these things: Superman.
Since 2014, there have been 20 DC Universe Animated Original Movies, most of which existed in a shared continuity that began with Justice League: War and culminated in this year’s Justice League Dark: Apokalips War. With that story arc now complete, Superman: Man of Tomorrow will set up a new continuity for future movies. Butch Lukic is the new Supervising Producer for these DC movies, with Chris Palmer directing Man of Tomorrow.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge is a bone-crunchingly brutal take on the beloved game franchise and the heart-wrenching backstory of the titular warrior, Hanzo Hasashi. The newest Warner Bros. animated offering is also stacked with homages to classic martial arts movies and ’80s action flicks that the creators, writer Jeremy Adams and executive producer Rick Morales, tell me was vital to their vision of Mortal Kombat, which Morales reveals made the R-rated animation “the movie that I’ve always wanted to make.”
Watching Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge as an action fan, it’s easy to see where the team pulled from, especially when it comes to the real life inspiration for Johnny Cage, the Muscles from Brussels himself, Jean-Claude Van Damme. There’s even an instantly recognizable triple roundhouse kick which Morales confirms was an intentional nod to the iconic European martial artist. “We pulled from Van Damme stuff for sure,...

Moviegoers don’t primarily recognize Warner Brothers Animation for their cleave-and-dismember content, but after Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge, that may change.
Ethan Spaulding’s reboot of Midway’s fatality-fueled video game series relishes its mature rating right out the gate. Everything is not awesome in Hanzo Hasashi’s (Patrick Seitz) world, as rival assassins ruthlessly murder everyone in the warrior’s village. Hasashi’s warpath retribution tears out spinal columns, cascades oceans of blood, and pulverizes through an array of gasp-worthy finishers that redefine hand-drawn violence. Spaulding’s introduction of Hasashi – aka Scorpion – kickstarts the film’s first few minutes with the infernally dark, combat-rich adaptation of Mortal Kombat that live-action films have yet to summon. Let them fight, indeed.
With an opening reminiscent of The Bride’s Crazy 88 massacre in Kill Bill: Volume 1, Scorpion’s Revenge is certifiably not messing around. Nor does underworld fists-and-freakshow action relent.

Now that Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge has been unleashed on viewers around the globe, fans everywhere have one question: Will we be getting another entry into the awesome R-rated animated franchise? The first animated Mortal Kombat movie establishes a vibrant and violent landscape that is not only true to the games that inspired it but also feels ripe for exploration. Writer Jeremy Adams says that although he doesn’t know whether the team will get another chance to revisit the brutal supernatural space he would love to, and that if they do he already has a plan for what would come next.
“Bigger,” Adams teases. “That’s all I can say about that. I absolutely do hope that happens. I don’t know anything else besides that. But yeah, my hope is that this gets a theatrical release at some point. I hope someday maybe they do like a Fathom event or something,...

When it was announced that Warner Bros. Animation was going to make an R-rated Mortal Kombat movie, fans went wild. The beloved fighting game franchise has been delighting and disgusting gamers in equal measure since it debuted in 1992. Since its release the series has been courting controversy for its extreme violence, which is exactly why it’s been such a success. Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge pays homage to that legacy with a blood-splattered, gore filled, martial arts heavy take on the lore of the game with bone-crunchingly awesome results. Watching Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge feels like a Mortal Kombat lover’s dream, and for this lifelong Fatality fan it delivered on all fronts.

PSA: The pale-eyed, undead ninja Hanzo Hasashi (Aka Scorpion) has sworn revenge against Shang Tsung, so brace yourself for a supercharged brawl the likes of which we’ve never seen before.
That is, in a nutshell, the core plot powering Warner’s animated Mortal Kombat movie (full title: Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge), which is now just two weeks away from its digital debut.
And so, in an effort to fuel excitement, the Powers That Be have unleashed a suitably graphic, R-rated clip, introducing us to franchise legend Johnny Cage – voiced in this instance by Community and Stargirl alum Joel McHale – and the adventure that awaits.
Helmed by Ethan Spaulding, whose credits include multiple episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender, Scorpion’s Revenge revolves around the “once-in-a-generation tournament between the champions of Outworld and Earthrealm – a competition that will ultimately determine the fate of Earth and all its citizens.”

As you’re no doubt aware, the Coronavirus pandemic is playing hell with the entertainment industry. Most major productions have shut down, either because the countries they’re being shot in are under lockdown or because the studio couldn’t guarantee the safety of the cast and crew. In addition, cinemas have closed down indefinitely, meaning that many upcoming blockbusters have seen their release dates postponed (and many may end up going straight to VOD). But what does this mean for films in post-production?
Well, one such case is Mortal Kombat, which is being directed by Simon McQuoid and produced by James Wan. Principal photography took place in late 2019, with the film wrapping on December 13th and the pic set to be released on January 15th, 2021. "Why would I fight for you?" Warner Bros has released the official trailer for an animated movie titled Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge, the latest "Mortal Kombat Legends" offering. But this one is particularly unique. It is an R-rated animated movie, given that rating for "extreme violence," "bad language" and "a bloody good time." The iconic fighter Scorpion is given a chance by a sorcerer to return as a specter and get revenge for his family that was killed in a genocide. Featuring the voices of Patrick Seitz as Scorpion, Joel McHale as Johnny Cage, Jennifer Carpenter as Sonya Blade, Jordan Rodrigues, Steve Blum, Artt Butler, and Darin De Paul. We probably won't ever see another live-action Mortal Kombat movie, but this may be better than that would ever be. Holy hell! What a trailer. Check it out below. Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge looks cool as hell. The red band trailer released earlier this week seems to perfectly capture the tone of the game as it mixes together the elusive combination of fantastical martial arts storytelling, a tongue-in-cheek attitude and, of course, extreme bloody violence.
The film looks to flesh out Scorpion’s background, too, showing off the roots of his rivalry with the Lin Kuei clan and specifically, Sub-Zero. It appears to combine this tale with a loose adaptation of the first game, in which the classic Kombatants did battle against Goro and Shang-Tsung.
Despite Johnny Cage’s protestations in the trailer, the animated film will indeed be coming straight to home release, with the digital version landing on April 12th and the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray a few weeks later on April 28th. And now, we know what the special features will be, with the full...

The Mortal Kombat franchise has been adapted for the screen since the early days of the franchise, including to attempts to tell the games’ story in animated form. The first animated take was Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins, a tie-in to the first live-action movie, that included weak hand-drawn animations and segments of embarrassingly early CGI. A few years later, we got a season of Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm, a Saturday morning cartoon that acted as a quasi-sequel to the live-action movie. It was below average but had its moments.
Quality aside, what linked those two attempts at cartoon kombat was that they were meant for a young crowd and therefore went against the usual blood and gore Mortal Kombat is known for. Rather than throw a harpoon into his opponents’ chest, Scorpion would just throw a rope or chain and wrap his enemy into a cocoon like he’s Spider-Man.
