- The U.S.S. Discovery battles against Control in a fight not only for their lives but for the future, with a little help from some unexpected friends. Spock and Burnham discern vital new connections between the red signals while Burnham faces one of life's harshest truths: the right decisions are often the hardest to make.
- Pike declares that the purpose of battle is to distract the Section 31 fleet long enough to allow Burnham and Discovery to escape to the future. The crystal is about 4 minutes from being fully charged. Leland is the only life-form on board the entire Section 31 armada. The rest of the ships are empty. Subspace communications are still jammed, so no helping is expected by Discovery and Enterprise.
Leland wants the data in exchange for letting everyone live. The Discovery and Enterprise are hopelessly outgunned. The battle begins. The crystal is fully charged and good to go. Georgiou asks Saru to subtly lure Leland on board the Discovery, as is the last thing he would expect. Leland attacks the Discovery to weaken its shields. Pike puts the Enterprise in its firing line to protect the Discovery.
Tyler retrieves the Klingon fleet to assist in the battle, while Saru's sister Siranna arrives with Ba'Ul fighters after receiving a farewell message from Saru.
Stamets is seriously injured and is cared for by Culber. Culber realizes that Stamets is indeed his family. Burnham dons the suit and Spock pilots a shuttle to clear a path for her to the perimeter point. The Discovery had to lower the shields to allow Burnham to exit the ship. A Section 31 torpedo penetrates the Enterprise without detonating, and Cornwell seals off the surrounding area which prevents further damage when a secondary detonation kills her. Meanwhile, Burnham gets to the launch point, but her navigational interface is stuck in the present and won't allow her to select a destination in the future.
As Klingons and the Ba'Ul join the battle, Spock realizes that each of the 5 signals so far have led to a specific resource which they needed for this battle, this moment. Before going forward into the future, Burnham has to go into the past and those 5 signals, which lead to this point in the present.
Control-Leland boards Discovery during the period when the shields were down. He attacks the bridge and goes after the Sphere data. More section 31 ships arrive to gain an upper hand against the Klingons, Ba'Ul and Starfleet combined forces. In the suit, Burnham travels to the past and sets the five signals that led them to this point. The asteroid and USS Hiawata, Terralysium, Kaminar, Boreth and Xahea.
As Burnham returns to the present, she sets a destination to the future for the Discovery to follow through. The plan was for Spock to return back to Discovery, but his shuttle engines are damaged in the battle. Pike and Saru work on transporting Spock back to Discovery.
Control-Leland is defeated when Georgiou magnetizes the Nanites in his body, allowing Section 31's fleet to be destroyed. Burnham then sets a sixth for Discovery to follow as she travels forward over 900 years and promises to set a seventh when they arrive. Burnham opens a wormhole and the Discovery travels through it.
The Enterprise crew tell Starfleet that Discovery was destroyed in the battle and are ordered to never speak of it or the crew again (on Spock's recommendation, to prevent another incident like Control).
Tyler is placed in command of Section 31. 124 days have passed since the Discovery passed into the future. Enterprise is repaired in space dock above Earth. Months later, the Enterprise detects the seventh signal as it begins a new adventure.
