- The deep state emerges from the shadows when Wally, a gifted autistic hacker, downloads top secret videos that merely watching could get you killed. Max, the leader of the group, quickly realises the danger they're in and rushes to convince her friends to flee the impending consequences. Across the world, a sinister cabal of agencies work swiftly to take them down; cryptologists at the NSA, a black-ops unit who are a law unto themselves and a specialist who will do anything to bury the truth.—Millennial Films
- Along the Yukon, Mr X is transported via motorboat to an NSA black site facility. Within the complex, Max, a woman in her 20s and American National, is being held captive and without human rights. Terrified for her life, she confesses everything to Mr X and we see her story in flashback...
Max is the alpha female of a merry band of hackers squatting in an abandoned pub in London, England. She is a cryptocurrency trader and supports the group financially. Her interest is peaked when Wally, a gifted autistic boy, gains access to a horde of classified video files. For years she has argued with him about conspiracy theories; she believes they are all fake. Within minutes they are watching the assassination of a famous politician in the 90s who is then replaced by a clone, a doppelganger, apparently embedded in his place unbeknownst to the public. Everything Max has ever believed is being challenged.
On the other side of the world, a couple of eccentric data analysts at an NSA satellite station in New Mexico pick up their activity and call it in. At the Annapolis Naval Academy in Maryland, we meet Captain Keller giving a lecture to a class of Navy SEALs in training. He dismisses them and takes the call from New Mexico, immediately sending an order to arrest the hackers and dispatching his commanding officer to oversee the operation.
As the kids watch a second video - this time showcasing a weird military science experiment involving biomechanical warfare and Tai Chi - Max's beliefs are being made well and truly redundant. The man, the system, is, has and always be on top, with unimaginable power, the likes of which a low-life rebel like her can never hope to contend with. As she fights with Sanjeev over what to do - Monique acting as referee and Wally unsure of whose side to take - armed police raid the pub and arrest them.
Flashforward and Max is giving witness, begging for a second chance and vowing to never touch a computer again. She's done. Mr X thanks her for her honesty and gives the black-ops team their final order - to execute the prisoner. But there's a last-minute reprieve; the commanding officer arrives just in time to inform Mr X that Captain Keller's orders have changed and "...he wants her back by sunrise." Showing him on a tablet computer, it appears Max shared the files online shortly before being arrested and now the whole world is looking for her amidst a media scandal. Reluctantly, Mr X tells them to take Max away, even as she cackles with laughter in a state of hysteria.
