Gordon T. Dawson, who parlayed a stint as a costumer for Sam Peckinpah into a career as a writer and producer with credits including The Ballad of Cable Hogue, The Rockford Files, Bret Maverick and Walker, Texas Ranger, has died. He was 84.
Dawson died March 6 in West Hills Hospital of complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, his family announced.
A former firefighter, Dawson spent three months in a Columbia Pictures basement using a blowtorch, paraffin and glue to age the principal soldier uniforms for the Peckinpah-directed Major Dundee (1965). When the extras’ costumes did not match the ones Dawson had prepared, Peckinpah shut down production on the first day of shooting.

Exclusive: Jessi Case (Mother’s Day) and Rocky Myers (Sons of Thunder) have joined the cast of On a Wing and a Prayer, a faith-based feature from director Sean McNamara, which will be released through MGM’s distribution and marketing joint venture United Artists Releasing. They’ll star alongside previously announced cast members Dennis Quaid, Heather Graham and Jesse Metcalfe.
The Lightworkers pic is based on a true story, watching as a small-town pilot dies unexpectedly while flying. In the aftermath, passenger Doug White (Quaid) is forced to land the plane safely in order to save his entire family.

The Craig Robinson-led Peacock comedy series “Killing It” has set its main cast.
Claudia O’Doherty, Rell Battle, Scott MacArthur, Stephanie Nogueras, Wyatt Walter (“Sons of Thunder”), and Jet Miller have all joined Robinson in the series.
Robinson stars in the half-hour series as Craig, a man who will do anything to make his American Dream come true, even compete in a state-sponsored python hunt. The show was ordered to series at the streamer in February.
O’Doherty will play Jillian, a down-on-her luck Uber driver who introduces Craig to the bizarre world of snake hunting. Battle will play Isaiah, Craig’s younger brother, whose version of the American Dream is a lot less legal than Craig’s. MacArthur will play Brock, a rival snake hunter and aspiring social media star. Hawaii Five-0 is pulling out a big gun for its series finale, in the form of action hero icon Chuck Norris.
TVLine has learned exclusively that TV’s erstwhile Texas Ranger Cordell Walker will guest-star during the CBS drama’s two-hour series finale as Lee Phillips, a retired sergeant major who is helping his mentee, Lincoln Cole (to be played by MacGyver alum Lance Gross), hide from authorities in order to protect his anonymity. (As previously reported, when Cole finds himself potentially in harm’s way, Five-0 is brought in to protect him.)
