Riker and Troi's daughter Kestra was named after Troi's late elder sister, who appeared in Dark Page (1993).
Riker mentions the Kzinti as being a former problem to deal with. The Kzinti are a feline warlike race from the novels of Larry Niven. Spock, Sulu, and Uhura met the Kzinti in the Niven-written cartoon The Slaver Weapon (1973), but they have made no further Trek appearances, due to rights issues.
The replicator that Dr. Agnes Jurati uses in the "La Sirena" sick bay to create a hypospray is actually a very thinly disguised Monoprice Voxel 3D printer. Part of the Monoprice "IIIP" logo above the touch pad is visible behind a sticker that was placed over it as well as on the printer bed when she removes the hypospray from the replicator.
First appearance of William Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) since These Are the Voyages... (2005) and chronologically since Star Trek: Nemesis (2002).
Kestra mentions Data wanted to have dreams, tell jokes, and learn to ballroom dance. Data had dreams in Birthright, Part I (1993), told jokes in The Outrageous Okona (1988), and learned to ballroom dance in Data's Day (1991).
