Charlie must interrupt his date, receiving art-loving forensic technician Sarah, to investigate with Rex the murder of an art gallery curator during a robbery at his modern art gallery, where only one piece was stolen. They must work out where it went, who took it, if the target was the victim or the art, which now raises in value, while the gallery was under financial stress and offered a takeover by a wealthy 'benefactor', what about rivalry in the artist's study, with an ambitious apprentice who has access. Rex's nose adds a hidden compartment in a sculpture's base.
