People watching in a whole new way!
darthpax1 March 2019
An interesting idea for a show that will not be to everyone's taste. If you are a people watcher who finds amusment in the idiocy of our species you will probly get a few giggles. If you think our species is awesome, watch it anyway and wake up to yourself. Not academy award material but a fun way to kill 20 minutes.

Funny in small doses
michellez-8234429 May 2019
This may be an awkward comparison, but imagine that all the shows that you watch and enjoy share a reality, each show like a character in that reality or a sitcom. "Aliens News Desk" should be an occasionally recurring character but not a main character and never the focus of an episode. It's funny in small doses.

Similar to some sketches on a comedy show. Kept short and sweet, it's O.K. (This seems like the perfect show for 11 minutes.) Dragged out too long, not so much. It can be quite amusing, aliens misinterpreting the doings of wacky humans but some of the things that they do and do not understand seem oddly random. Too random for "superior" aliens who have been observing us for longer than a few weeks.

A minor example, If you'd been observing earth's broadcasts for any amount of time, HOW could you be aware of Roman Catholicism but entirely ignorant of the correct pronunciation of Roman Catholicism? Little things like that seem off. I get it, the idea is that even those who imagine themselves superior, observing "inferiors" from a safe remove can be mistaken in their judgements. But 22 minutes of not slight misinterpretations but grossly ignorant ones is too much.

Definitely different
dw817717 May 2020
I think Tuva Van Void is hot for a robot, but that's really about it.

The jokes are somewhat amusing about misinterpreting common human events - and there's not more more to it. I think more thought could've gone through this to make it intellectually humorous, which it's not.

Watch if it's free, don't pay a dime if it's not.

Hit out of the park

First episode is fantastic. Its a new perspective on humans and life on earth.

I think some of the low ratings by other reviewers is due to shows being predominately words driven. There aren't many fancy graphics, most of the show is two newsreader talking. But if you listen you will be laughing at the weird, unique and the hilarious take on things we take for granted.

Give it a try, and keep your attention on the word play.

Funny, but.......has the potential to become boring fast
matthijsalexander4 March 2019
Funny first episode, I just wonder how long this remains funny.

Deliverance is fast-paced, so one might not 'get' or 'spot' all the jokes. Humor, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder of course. I enjoy animation and I enjoy humor/comedy, so they're off to a good start.

Will be watching the second episode for sure, and hope it remains

Can-laughter

Had to laugh into a can to save it for some better occasion. Flat jokes. I hoped for more depth.

Watch something funnier
davidoseaisland1 March 2019
I opened this show with high hopes and some trepidation.

Because it was from SNL....and because it was from SNL.

This unfortunately was from the POST Seth Myers Weekend Update not the funnier time when Seth and guest hosts ruled. Hi Stefon!

Tried too hard, no original comedy and within 5 minutes was pushing political debate over fracking.

I do not watch an animated show called "Alien News Desk" to receive a lecture over how to treat the environment

This was a fail.

Good idea - poor execution
colonnesel5 March 2019
Not since Maya and Marty has a show come from such good premises, and yet hatched such a poor product. The idea here is excellent and I was looking forwards to enjoying it. Unfortunately it lacks the charisma that should come with cartoon characters. Both aliens on the news desk came across - to me at least - as annoying to the point of irritability, forcing me to stop watching the first episode about halfway through after I'd had enough. Too bad. Maybe they can get different voice actors?

Very disappointing. Perhaps professional writers would help.
glornt28 February 2019
Premise: Two cartoon aliens talking about how stupid humans are, without touching on much of the real stupidity, instead opting to engage in what I guess the writers think (erroneously) is clever social commentary.

I have seen teen-produced sketch shows on Nickelodeon that are better written than this, which sounds as though it was written by college students whose self esteem greatly exceeds their talents. Will Forte has been in some funny things; either someone tricked him into doing this, or his previous work in actually funny shows has just been lucky.

The fundamental problem is that as comedy, it just isn't very funny, and as social commentary it is too glib and shallow . It seems to be trying to do two things at once, and failing at both of them. The writers (hopefully new ones) should pick one and stick to it -- preferably the comedy stuff, as it is a cartoon.

Sorry -- I wanted to like this, but there's nothing here to like. If you want a glimpse of humanity as seen from an external viewpoint with humor, there's always ALF, Third Rock From the Sun, and Mork & Mindy, which were all much better, and not so grating on the nerves. The second star is because, while it was painfully bad, it wasn't overly offensive. I don't see this becoming a long-term gig for anyone involved.

Fricking HILARIOUS!!
lauriejohnson2209 March 2019
The first 2 episodes that I've seen so far are funny as hell! It's the best new comedy show of the decade imo! Those who are easily offended because of religious or political beliefs may have a negative opinion of the show. Pretty much anyone else would love it!

Overdue concept...follow-thru? Meh...
jerry-535144 March 2019
Because of the credits, I gave it a watch on E1. Invader Zim did much better without the pretense. It comes off as a Fox talking head that doesn't like anything, and an exiled The View member that has to put up with 'him'. The Boondocks had more bite, and could be funny or thoughtful in the process. I'll catch E2, perhaps E3; but since they're already 'in the can', I think this is one that'll come off the dvr. Pity...the subject is so...fetid, overripe. I don't want to be subjected a sermon either, but I suspect that aliens will already know we're savages. We'll either be a meal, an expendable work force, or in the way.

Fun stuff
Uberlim28 February 2019
Just worried they packed too much in the 1st one, also they shdn't have put SNL on the picture-thing, all the haters went & hated. It got that MAD vibe, & 'de gustibus', but it's funny & clever, on the spectrum, with adhd, refreshing tv.

A politically correct Cartoon made for the masses
mega001320 May 2019
I guess this cartoon must have the kind of humor that doesn't require thought, because after thinking about what I just watched, my funny bone didn't feel a damn thing. This cartoon was certainly made for those who aren't shamed by their mainstream mindset. If you like mainstream programming & political correctness, you'll probably love laughing out loud to this cartoon that's tailored made for the masses.

Good show
happydude4225 March 2019
A funny show that is entertaining for a half hour. I imagine some of the jokes are too cerebral for some people which shows up in some of the reviews but if you like to laugh this show will provide you with a few good ones.

It's like watching a Cosmic CNN.

COmpletely political show, serves you the typical liberal basket of subjects - jokes of "Mr. Trump" and his family, global warming scaremongering, cultural appropriation, SJW race baits, socialism vs. greedy rich, etc. Super boring and unfunny.

The Show Doesn't Make Sense
howlingnordic9 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The premise of the show is ultimately ruined by it's horribly anachronistic writing.

So, these advanced alien races have been monitoring human/earth's progress for about the last billion years or so. Collected reports are broadcasted by anchors Drexx Drudlarr, and Tuva Van Void.

Despite being so advanced, thus far they've been confused by what airports are, have never heard of gambling, don't know a monument is, confused by govt. systems that aren't run by a singular overlord, have no concept of cruises/guided tours, and don't understand how evolution works,

What they do understand, is seemingly random pieces of information. They're clueless about horseback riding, but they totally know what centaurs are. They can't pronounce catholocism, but they know about chrisitianity, and they know who the pope is (even as an anti-theist, I've found the bits on christianity to be ham-fisted at best). They also apparently play hockey on their home world, because given the show's incoherent nature, they know what that is to.

Shotgun satire
Kev11sky21 May 2019
This is some crazy, weird, clever, hilarious, topical satire... sort of a politically incorrect "Futurama" on steroids. It's fast-moving and inventive.

It's an equal opportunity offender -- religiously, politically, sexually. Oversensitive people with a poorly developed humor gland will probably not like it.

Note: I enjoyed learning who voices the smart infobabe fembot, Tuva Van Void (She's a cast member on the current SNL).

It's not that deep
blubunni32128 April 2019
I ended up watching this show by complete accident. So I guess that "no expectations" thing helped.... Because it's so silly and I loved it.

I think it's perfect for that time right before bed, when you just don't want to think anymore and you just need something dumb and light hearted to watch.

It's good satire, I am a bit of an existentialist so it's fun for me.

An interesting take on news-y comedy
Adorbs_Lil_Puddin28 May 2019
While some of the stories are related to current events, for the most part it's just reframing the nonsense that is the human existence with a touch of alien/robot nonsense intertwined. It's almost like Futurama meets Rick & Morty for its range of comedy. The comedic bits are broken into 2 minute segments with occasional one-shot gags or lines for the "news" portion of the show. And of course there's banter between the hosts.

The hosts themselves aren't stuck in a standard role where one is always the informed host and the other is the intense host. They're not afraid to pass the archetype baton around from time to time. The hosts' voices come off as the perfect blend of all-knowing, upbeat, but devoid of sincere emotion;basically perfect animated news anchors. The voice actors and voice directing are top-notch for sure. The occasional guests are also entertaining and well-voiced.
