Microsoft recently announced the integration of its own artificial intelligence, named Copilot, with games like Minecraft. The company’s demo showcased the Xbox AI’s ability to guide the player towards the next goal, acting as a tutorial or guidance feature.
Many users expressed dissatisfaction with this new feature on X, arguing that games should not provide assistance during gameplay. Most users compared this to a Wiki, a resource for games where you can find answers when you become stuck.
Minecraft Has Reached a New Level of Gameplay Thanks to the Xbox AI Minecraft can now use Copilot from Microsoft to actively help the player.

A coalition of eight daily newspapers have sued OpenAI and Microsoft for copyright infringement, expanding a growing front in the legal battle over the unauthorized use of articles to power artificial intelligence technology.
The lawsuit, filed in New York federal court on Tuesday, is at least the fourth complaint brought against the Sam Altman-led firm over copyright issues associated with training the automated chatbots that have vaulted the company to a multibillion-dollar valuation and sparked rivals to pour troves of cash into competing technology. It argues that thousands of their articles were used to train the AI systems that power ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot and other products that now effectively compete against them.
The publishers — The New York Daily News, Chicago Tribune, Orlando Sentinel, South Florida Sun Sentinel, San Jose Mercury News, Denver Post, Orange County Register and St. Paul Pioneer Press — are all owned by investment firm Alden Global Capital.

San Francisco, Aug 12 (Ians) Microsoft is bringing generative AI to frontline field workers by incorporating its Copilot AI assistant into its field services platform, which not only streamlines workflows but also allows supervisors to see what technicians are doing on the job.
Copilot will be added to the Dynamics 365 service, which will be used by field workers such as cable technicians and electricians, as well as a wide range of other jobs in facilities, manufacturing and healthcare, according to The Verge.
When using Copilot, service requests sent via Outlook will automatically pre-populate information, such as how many times the same customer has requested service in the past.
Supervisors can review work orders before distributing them to field workers.
These work orders will also recommend specific people for the job based on their travel time, availability, and skill set by fall this year, according to the report.

New Delhi, Aug 12 (Ians) After iOS and Android, Microsoft has now announced to shut down its digital assistant Cortana app on Windows 11.
While Cortana in Windows as a standalone app is deprecated, the support for Cortana in Teams mobile, Microsoft Teams display, and Microsoft Teams Rooms will end in the fall of 2023.
“Cortana in Outlook mobile will continue to be available. We understand this may affect the way you work, but there are new and exciting ways you can get help with your tasks, calendar, email, and more,” The company said in an update.
Cortana originally started as a digital assistant in Windows Phone, and was later integrated into Windows, with support for voice commands, reminders, and the ability to open applications.
However, Cortana struggled to compete with its rivals like Alexa or Google Assistant.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella admitted in 2019 that Cortana had fallen behind competitors.

San Francisco, June 22 (Ians) Microsoft has announced its roadmap for building its own quantum supercomputer that can solve impactful problems that even the most powerful supercomputers cannot.
To build the quantum supercomputer, Microsoft said that it “will follow a similar path as classical supercomputers did in the 20th century. From vacuum tubes to transistors, to integrated circuits, advances in underlying technology will enable scale and impact”.
According to the company, quantum hardware will fall into one of the three categories of Quantum Computing Implementation Levels, which include Level 1 — Foundational (Noisy Intermediate Scale Quantum); Level 2 — Resilient (reliable logical qubits); and Level 3 — Scale (Quantum supercomputers).
Presently, Microsoft has achieved the first milestone towards a quantum supercomputer.
“We can now create and control Majorana quasiparticles. With this achievement, we’re well on our way to engineering a new hardware-protected qubit. With it, we can then engineer reliable logical qubits to reach the Resilient...

San Francisco, May 20 (Ians) Apple has reportedly restricted the internal use of AI chatbot ChatGPT and GitHub’s Copilot over concerns that its confidential data may end up with developers who trained the AI models on user data.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the iPhone maker is “concerned workers could release confidential data as it develops its own similar technology”.
Apple has restricted the use of ChatGPT and other external AI tools for some employees “as it develops its own similar technology,” according to a document reviewed by WSJ.
The tech giant is developing its own generative AI models but didn’t expand on what they may be used for, according to the report.
In March, The New York Times reported that multiple teams at Apple, including the one working on Siri, are experimenting with language-generating AI.
ChatGPT is reportedly on the list of restricted software at Apple for months.

New Delhi, Jan 26 (Ians) Microsoft-owned open source developer platform GitHub has reached 100 million members globally, and is growing fast in India too where it has crossed 10 million developers on the platform.
This makes the country the second largest developer community on GitHub, behind the US.
In 2015, almost a third of developers on GitHub were from North America.
Today, some of the fastest-growing regions are far away from the US, for example, in Southeast Asia, Africa, and South America.

If this user growth continues, GitHub predicts that users in India will match the current US GitHub developer population by 2025.
