Last film starring Gaspard Ulliel to be released in theaters during his lifetime, and also his last film to premiere in official competition at the Cannes Film Festival. Ulliel died on January 19, 2022 following a skiing accident.
The film was broadcast on TV for the first time in France in prime time on the channel France 2 as a tribute to Gaspard Ulliel four days after his death, on January 23, 2022. The film ranked second in ratings with 2.89 million viewers, and an audience share of 14.1%.
Justine Triet had another actress in mind when she wrote the role of Margot, but the actress turned her down, so she opened up casting for the part, and despite the fact that she was very well known, Adèle Exarchopoulos wanted to do a test with the director. The original character was older than Adèle was when the film was shot, around 38 or 39 years old. Triet said that with a character like that, at that age, it made sense to question whether or not she should have the abortion.
Filmed in France between May and July 2018 in Paris, Lyon, Normandie, and in the Italian island of Stromboli.
