Secrets can poison any family, especially one whose matriarch mysteriously goes missing.
Upcoming Peacock series “Apples Never Fall” stars Oscar-nominated “Nyad” actress Annette Bening and “Jurassic Park” icon Sam Neill as the seemingly perfect couple behind an elite tennis academy. Yet as the duo celebrate retirement, Joy (Bening) suddenly goes missing…leaving their family (and the press) to accuse husband Stan (Neill) of being behind her disappearance.
Based on Liane Moriarty’s bestselling novel of the same name, “Apples Never Fall” is the latest adaptation of Moriarty’s work, coming after “Big Little Lies” and “Nine Perfect Strangers.”
The official synopsis for “Apples Never Fall” reads: Former tennis coaches Stan (Sam Neill) and Joy (Annette Bening) Delaney have sold their successful tennis academy and are ready to start what should be the golden years of their lives. While they look forward to spending time with their four adult children, everything...

[Editor’s note: The following interview was conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike began on July 14, 2023.]
Heather Graham is looking back on her own Hollywood legacy. The “Suitable Flesh” star recently told IndieWire that 1999 meta comedy “Bowfinger” is one of the films she’s “proudest” of starring in. “That’s one of the movies I’m proudest about being in,” Graham said. “I’m so proud and so grateful to be in that movie.”
Graham’s co-star Steve Martin wrote the film, which follows an indie film producer (played by Martin himself) who is looking to helm his big break. Graham portrays an aspiring actress who uses her sexuality to ascend Hollywood’s male-dominated power structures; Eddie Murphy and Christine Baranski co-star. Frank Oz directed.
“Bowfinger” came out two years after Graham’s breakout “Boogie Nights” role. The “Chosen Family” writer-director additionally told IndieWire that the sexist themes parodied by “Bowfinger” are still present in Hollywood today.
“It’s still not totally what I think it should be,...

Liane Moriarty has made her way back to the screen with another hit show adapted from one of her best-selling novels. Following 2017’s “Big Little Lies,” Hulu’s “Nine Perfect Strangers” premiered on Aug. 18 with three buzzy episodes.
The series, which stars Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, Michael Shannon, Bobby Cannavale and Regina Hall, takes place in a tropical wellness resort where an eerie retreat leader promises nine broken strangers (none of which know each other) that they’ll leave happier than they came. But it soon becomes clear that she has a plan for them that none of them could have expected.
The episodes will continue dropping on Hulu every week through Sept.

When Liane Moriarty writes a book, I'm the first in line to buy it. As the author of the wildly successful Big Little Lies - as well as a few of my other favorites like The Hypnotist's Love Story and What Alice Forgot - Moriarty is a master of delightfully relatable characters and page-turning suspense. That's why I'm so excited that her latest novel, Nine Perfect Strangers, is being adapted as a Hulu miniseries by David E. Kelly and Nicole Kidman. This novel is about a very unique health resort, led by Masha (played by Kidman) and featuring nine unsuspecting guests. The movie also stars Melissa McCarthy, Michael Shannon, Luke Evans, Bobby Cannavale, Regina Hall, and Samara Weaving.
If you are as excited as I am about this gripping new release, then take some time to read (or re-read) Nine Perfect Strangers. Although the adaption may be different from the upcoming miniseries,...

CBS has ordered two more drama pilots, bringing its total to six so far for the 2020 development season. They are Good Sam, from writer Katie Wech (BH90210), Jane the Virgin creator Jennie Snyder Urman and her Sutton St. Productions; and Out The Door from 24 veteran Evan Katz and Jerry Bruckheimer Television. CBS Television Studios, where Urman and Bruckheimer are under deals, is the studio for both.
Written by Wech, Good Sam centers on a talented yet stifled surgeon who embraces her leadership role after her renowned and pompous boss falls into a coma. When he awakens and wants to resume surgery, however, it falls to her to supervise this overbearing blowhard who never acknowledged her talents — and also happens to be her father.
Wech executive produces with Urman and Joanna Klein for Sutton St. Productions.
Most recently, Wech was a writer on Fox’s summer drama series BH90210. Wech also wrote The Hypnotist’s Love Story,...

Emmy and Golden Globe winner Jane Seymour is set as a series regular opposite Adan Canto and Heather Graham in The Hypnotist’s Love Story, ABC’s drama pilot based on the bestselling book by Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty.
Written by Katie Wech and directed by Francesca Gregorini, The Hypnotist’s Love Story centers on successful hypnotherapist Ellen, who after a string of failed romances is optimistic about her current boyfriend, Patrick (Canto), until he reveals a disturbing truth: a stalker ex-girlfriend Sasha (Graham) has been following him for years. Ellen finds herself intrigued and oddly thrilled by the stalker, entirely unaware that they’ve already met.
Seymour will play Anne, Ellen’s mother, a stylish, independent single mother by choice who is confounded by her daughter’s longing for traditional romance.
Wech and Graham executive produce with David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman and Laurie Zaks of Mandeville Television.
