PLEASE Find Another Film to Educate
Realview292 August 2020
S/O to the legend T.C Carson, as well as the cast that actually looked very good on screen. As for the handling of the subject matter, personally I think it is very insensitive and crude to have this movie exist, while as an African-American community, we strive for PROPER representation and dialogue surrounding the mental health sigma.

This movie essentially waters down a serious diagnosis, gives an unrealistic treatment scenario and ends up having the viewer borderline scared of a black man with the particular disorder.

What about the spectrum? What about true long term community support? And the resolution at the end served no true help towards a person who may be looking at this film to gain a shred of hope for understanding.

This film set the conversation back. Significantly. I wish Mr. Carson had spoken up more in the development because his efforts were dually noted as a compassionate and well spoken therapist.

However, overall this film is a lewd portrayal of what many black men facing this affliction or anything similar face. If you're watching this for educational purposes...please don't take it to heart and search for a different example.

Ignorant and slightly offensive.
jessecfolk43 March 2019
This movie, in my opinion, does more harm than good for mental illness awareness. Pop psychology references, unrealistic doctor-patient relationships, and stereotypical portrayal of a person with mental illness shows that there was not much research done. This was a "made-for-TV" drama with a plot centered around an ignorant portrayal of mental illness, yet is being marketed as an awareness film.

As I said, in my opinion this movie misinforms it's audience and does more harm than good. I was alarmed at the number of "mmhmm"s and "aha"s I heard in the audience. No one should be "learning" anything from this movie, and the writer, director should have educated herself before making this movie.

On the technical side, the audio for the movie was absolutely amateurish, both in quality and also in how it relates to the plot. Body mics were used and it was almost cringy how bad the audio was as characters hugged or unwrapped sweetener packets or talked on the phone. Did no one tell the filmmakers it was bad before they released it?

The writing was also amateurish and awkward. Several repeated moments of dialogue. There were two specific conversations where the lines of dialogue were absolutely redundant. I could literally "hear" the bad, unedited writing as the actors were doing their thing.

On the plus side (earning the 2 stars), the actors did really do a good job. The terrible script definitely took even them out of the moment a few times, but they absolutely did the best they could with the awkward, clunky, and sometimes offensively ignorant (when speaking about mental illness) dialogue they were given.

Please don't see this movie and think you've learned about mental illness. Please don't see this movie and think you've educated yourself. If you take anything away from this movie just know that there is real work that needs to be done in regards to educating people about how to live with/treat mental illness... starting with the people who made this movie.

AMAZING MOVIE WITH A CRAZY TWIST
iamskyyy11 November 2018
I am ultimately surprised. This movie started off slow but made up for it in the end with the complicated twist. I think they did a really good job of Showing how complicated Bipolar disorder can really be. I think after this movie Peoples Eyes will be wide open from the truth. Finally someone has shown light on a sickness to often down played and over looked. The cast ...did a really good job.

I really enjoyed the video or movie but not the ending
michaelblack-2996225 February 2021
I enjoyed the plot it started out showing the Seriousness of the disease and the effect Bipolar disorder can have on a person and there family when they haven't been Diagnosed or put on some type of medication to stabilize the condition because I have faced firsthand what it like being around someone who's bipolar and not on there medication it can be a challenge but my only problem with the movie was the ending I felt the kids was done wrong because anyone bipolar or not just found that the people he trusted was not only lying and keeping secret from him but in fact play a row in the death of there father Accidental or not and he's the one that when to jail for reacting to a Situation that a normal kid would've probably acted the same way so in closing I feel the ending of the story Kinda stereotyped people with bipolar disorders remember the past had nothing to do with being bipolar but everything to do with lies keeping secrets and the effect of that.

A mental health awareness message for all!
jcanny-7323325 January 2019
So happy to see a movie that so directly addresses the issues associated with mental illness. And I appreciate the end message of: beyond medications & therapy, it's primarily an issue of ACCEPTANCE, which is especially hard for a newly diagnosed young person to grapple with. Kudos to all involved with this project.

Accurate and Informative
idanceToya915 June 2021
Although I understand that it may be a hard watch, it is relatable for the fact that this is someone's situation. I know someone personally just like the main character and watching this really helped me to understand their circumstances and train of thought a little more.

I love the way the story depleted a young adult men as a talented architect dealing with bipolar. It took you through the highs and lows of his illness. It also shows how it affects family and friends. The movie is enjoyable to watch.

Mental health awareness at its best!
graystuff31 January 2019
This film was thought provoking, discussion worthy and kept you on your mental toes. Something we need in the black community in order to be able to openly discuss what we experience in private. What goes on in the dark, does come to light. Whether we talk about it or not!

Great Movie!
gadgetworld-974689 March 2019
I don't have a mental illness, but I know many who do that I have previously judged. Bricked truly have me a different perspective and allowed me to consider the other party, their reasoning and their actions. Great work. Really made me want to self evaluate.

Reality for sure!
detare16 February 2022
I gave up my daughter for adoption when I was 19. We found each other years later. We spent 10 years together. She moved here and there and found a good man. They both moved back home, bought a house......then, one night she got pulled over and taken to jail, where she ended up hanging herself!!! I had no idea she was Bipolar until later. She was not taking medication as prescribed. She never told me about her condition. It still feels unreal after all these years. Please take it seriously!!!

Accurate and Disturbing but Great Movie
Buffer675430 October 2022
I read some of the reviews before I wanted the movie and some of them were mixed reviews. Some people took offense while others praised it . It's so few movies about mental health I decided to give it a try. First I want to say, if you don't know anyone personally with Bipolar disorder or if you have not experienced it first hand, there is a lot about the movie you may not appreciate. Although the moments were disturbing at times, I know first hand that they were accurate. Is this every persons experience who receives a diagnosis? No it's not, but it's someone's story and it truly humanizes someone who is going through the journey of trying to find that chemical balance. The filmmaker can't show every journey but the cast and crew gave a realistic perspective . And for those who haven't experienced any type of diagnosis , it truly gives a first hand look. It breaks it down so even if you haven't experienced it you can walk away having more insight on Bipolar Disorder because it's really layered. I appreciate that a movie like this is out on the market. I want to see more like it.

Raw and inside look into mental health
caparks31 January 2019
We need more movies to help us break the stigmatism of mental health. As this issue could touch anybody, I appreciate the eye opening depiction of how mental health affects the black community. Our youth need to know this, we all need to understand mental health.
