Wow

I literally said wow...out loud...at the end of this episode. Michael Sheen is, as always, glorious. Tom Payne (good last name for this role) inhabits his role. Aurora Perrineau will probably be the breakout role person. Halston Sage drew the short straw and has to play a tv reporter (ew). Haven't seen Lou Diamond Phillips since Longmire...he appears to have been in the gym between then and now, looks pretty damn good. As for storyline, I can't imagine anyone being disappointed. ENJOY.

Wow !

What an amazing start to a new series ! Michael Sheen is incredibly talented no matter the situation. I haven't seen Lou Diamond Phillips in a long time but he was impressive. I loved Tom Payne in TWD and he was even better in this.

Pilot
Prismark101 August 2020
Dexter, Hannibal, Profiler are just some of the show that has inspired Prodigal Son.

Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne) is rather like Lincoln Rhyme. Clever but arrogant. Bright is a criminal psychologist whose reckless attitude sees him being kicked out by the FBI. He suffers from PTSD and narcissm.

Bright is picked up by the NYPD to help out. His boss Lieutenant Gil Arroyo from major crimes knows of Bright's talents but also about his past. His father Dr Martin Whitly (Michael Sheen) also known as The Surgeon was a serial killer who killed at least 23 people.

It is no accident that Arroyo wants Bright on the team. In the pilot, NYPD are investigating potential copycat killings of Dr Whitly. It brings Bright face to face with his father in jail after ten years.

The casting of Sheen who is Welsh just like Anthony Hopkins brings to mind The Silence of the Lambs. The grotesque killings the police are investigating, Bright visiting his father in prison for help, the Gothic setting. It all brings to mind Jonathan Demme's hit movie.

The important part is the relationship between father and son. Is Whitly playing games with Bright? That has to be the arc.

With so many similar themed shows over the years, Prodigal Son lacks originality. It does have humour to add with the grimness. A victim tied to a chair and a bomb underneath gets his hand axed off so he could escape.

It almost made me feel like I'm back in 2010 and im watching sherlock for the first time.it was awful, of course but it made me laugh so freaking hard with every sherlock kinda reference.god, I even feel thrilled that they had the audacity to make their intentions(making a literal copy)so clear from the first episode. with all the deductions and HiGh FunCtIoNiNg SoCiOpAtH and too good for the FBI crap.

Hooked right from the start

The pilot does a great job establishing the characters and story. It has excellent cinematography and music. It's impossible not to like the main character of Malcolm Bright and Tom Payne plays the role with conviction. Michael Sheen and Lou Diamond Phillips are great as well. Try it out! If you like dark shows but with humor then this is the show for you!

Hooked from the start!

Wow. The first five minutes of the episode already got me hooked. This is the first show that actually shows mental illness correctly. Malcolm is an extremely likable character and the rest of the cast is also good and strong.

The episode glued me to my seat and I wasn't distracted once. The ending was INTENSE. Like wow. I watched the rest of the season in two days time (started watching end 2020). 10/10 would recommend!

This serie needs a renewal.

another wanna be Sherlock. So played out

Just a cliche waste of time. Huge emphasis on style as usual with US Network junk. Trying hard to produce BBC like Crime dramas but fall massively short. The main character is 100% miscast for the role in his Gucci suits yet mentally tormented. I dot know when you expect these types of major network garbage become believable ad some notion of substance. Everything is over the top like hitting like a sledgehammer.

Brette Taylor
fastshot7 October 2021
Just watched the pilot and I liked it! Gonna sit down and binge watch the rest of it. I do have a question, why hasn't Brette Taylor ever had a leading role in something? I swear, that woman can say something with her eyes in a split second more than most actors can say in an hour.

Not even Sheen can save this.

Forced. Rushed.

A poor attempt to get Lecter and Sherlock on screen together.

Had potential

A son in his late 30's and a mom in her late 40's, math doesn't add up. A lot of flaws in this show. Payne was good in TWD but he doesn't fit the bill. There such a thing as bad casting and it's happened here. The plot and storyline would probably work well, with some editing and the right cast and right network. ABC,NBC,CBS, FOX ruin a lot of shows that would of went on to a lot of success on a better network. FX,USA, HBO, etc etc have better writers and execs that don't stick with the same old stuff for 30 years. Like the good guy always wins, the bad guy captures the good guy doesn't kill him and then explains his plan in detail. Does that happen in real life lol I doubt it. I have it a shot with all the advertising they did, but it'll probably be canceled after 1 season unless mindless drones fall into watching the same show like Elementary or The Mentalist. Hannibal or Dexter it's not.
