- A king who is struggling to live up to his father's name hires an ice skating choreographer for a special Christmas Eve performance to celebrate the founding of his nation.
- Katie, a former professional ice skater (Patterson), is hired by the king of San Senova, Alexander (Andrew Cooper), to help his daughter in a Christmas ice skating performance. As Katie spends time in the castle and with the king, she and Alex begin to develop feelings for each other and ultimately fall in love. But will the tradition-loving people of San Senova allow their king to make a foreigner their queen?
- King Alexander of San Senova rules his tiny European (fictitious) state wisely and carefully, but is still nicknamed the Gringe king because since the queen's death he distanced himself from the seasonal traditions -connected to the realm's origin myth- which his late father was called Christmas king for. He's a devoted father to kid princess Christina, who is besotted by ice skating, so when an American production visits the capital, he has his right hand (father to son) and childhood friend Nicholas inquire if it's possible to have them mount a special Christmas production she devised. Although the lead dancers Katie and Jessica intended to retire , the generous budget is too good to refuse: enough to start their own skating school. Jessica is drawn to the fairy-tale invitation to stay at the palace anyway; Katie wines she finally wants a home Christmas, but is the one who ends up bonding with both Christina and 'perfect gentleman Alex', who warms to her as Cupid strings a royal arrow.—KGF Vissers
