Not Bad For Me!
gregberne1121 January 2019
I don't really get what all the fuss is for from the negative reviewers here. This show is not the best thing I have ever seen but I don't think it was bad at all just a goofy comedy show worth a few chucklers for sure.

Laughed so hard I cried!
margallen-7698317 January 2019
My family and I were excited to watch this show as we do enjoy the unique humour of our beloved country. The first episode was funny but did not grab me. The second episode?!?! Well that was an entirely different story. While I too am 'from away' (the dreaded Ontario), I have been to Cavendish and happily admit that I bought into the entire 'Anne' experience. About ten minutes into episode two, we had to pause the show as we were laughing so hard that we were crying. Several pauses, snorts, tears and welll...almost inciontinence left us all howling with laughter. The words, 'stop - I can't take it!' roared from our mouths. Bravo to all involved in making this great home-grown entertainment. For the haters....come on, really? If we can't laugh at ourselves then what is the point. We live in a magnificent country with wonderful, diverse regional idiosyncrasies be they accurately portrayed or not. Embrace the humour. Look at Bob and Doug Mackenzie - iconic Canadian humour. Do we take offence? Cavendish - keep up the great work. My family can't wait for episode three!!

chadhulhu-249-96309612 January 2019
Just watched the first episode, might be a biased fan, but I have liked almost everything from Mark and Andy. As a fan of surreal comedy and anything set in my area well family of provinces. Beast dy, was a great start. Hopefully, the world grows bigger.

Wonderful documentary
jameswsthomson17 January 2019
I love the accuracy of this show - every detail of Cavendish is faithfully, lovingly recreated in this documentary about real life in Cavendish. From the celebrations of Beast Day to the state-of-the-art hospital, the show feels like coming back to my hometown of Cavendish, where I live.

Funny!
melgoldsmith23 January 2019
Funny how the only people with a problem are from Cavendish. It's a funny show. No one cares if it isn't representative of the actual place. Good characters and funny content.

Gently surreal Canadian comedy
memeweaver12 January 2019
Sitting in a gentle Canadian space somewhere between The Strange Calls, Hunderby and The League of Gentlemen, Cavendish had a decent opener which paved the way in terms of characters and plotlines for subsequent episodes.

I notice some people taking offence to a lack of research on the real Cavendish location which quite misses the point of surreal comedy.

My only niggle was that Kevin Eldon, a stalwart of British comedy shows, is nibbling the furniture a little too much and could afford to rein it in a little.

Tried to watch a Canadian show gone wrong
cameronadammacdonald10 February 2019
As a Canadian I always try to give some Canadian movies or shows a chance. I enjoyed the first few minutes of the two brothers arguing but as soon as they got to Cavendish I found most the humor to be too weird or just dumb. It was hard to get through the first episode.

A Canadian comedy I can get behind
clburbine19 January 2019
In this day and age of way too much realism on TV, Cavendish is a breath of fresh air. It's absurd, fantastical, silly and it made me laugh out loud. I'm not a member of IMDB, in fact I had to register just to leave this review, but I feel so strongly that everyone should watch this show, I had to do it. It's so good, so funny and every character contributes to the crazy hilarity. One more thing: its made in Canada, by Canadians and the cast is almost exclusively Canadian, proving we haven't lost all our talent to Hollywood.

What's wrong with the rest of you???
breemoria27 February 2019
Terrible writers, terrible humor, rediculous story lines. A real waste of money. There's a lot of crappy stuff out there and this deserves to be at the bottom of the barrel. Not funny at all.

VERY QUIRKY & FUNNY - IGNORE NEGATIVE REVIEWS
roxygirl-3357123 January 2019
This show is really different than other sitcoms right now. Very quirky & funny with lots of laugh-out-loud one liners & situational absurdities. The polarity between the brothers fuels the quick-witted banter. And the supporting characters of the boys' cantankerous father along with a plethora of eccentric town folk with wacky idiosyncrasies rounds out a great ensemble cast.

The negative reviews are almost exclusively by real Cavandish islanders who seem to think that this is actually about them. Of course people don't really think Cavendish is like this. Just like there is no 278-yr-old British guy fighting a headless horsemen in "Sleepy Hollow," no teenagers fighting supernatural beings like Big Foot in "Eerie, Indiana," or aliens actually living in "Roswell, N.M."

So ignore the negative comments about how "Cavendish" portrays islanders badly (seriously - no one actually thinks that the citizens of Cavendish are rubes who believe a mythical beast lives on the island & hunts people), and just enjoy the obviously fictional and farcical adventures in the show.

Great, now the tourists are going to be asking us about Beast Day and looking for a hospital in Cavendish.
RGCTO11 January 2019
I was actually looking forward to this show. The possibilities for humour surrounding Cavendish and the people who live there are endless. Unfortunately, it is painfully obvious that the people who write this show are, as Islanders say, from away. This show is quite possibly the most idiotic thing I've ever seen. When the characters started talking about having a big meal while everything on the Island is still closed, I was waiting for some joke about tourist season. Instead, they start blithering on about some fictional Beast Day where everyone stays in because they are afraid of some beast. Every character is just obnoxious and there isn't a single funny joke in the whole show. Also, this show's plot relies on every character being stupid. When the best thing about a show other than the closing credits is watching two guys from Ontario come over the bridge singing Anne tunes, that is pretty bad.

Loved the first episode! Along the same lines as The Strange Calls and similar humour to Flight of the concords. Really hope the rest is as good. Classic Canadian humour.

Quite possibly the worst show I have ever seen
PEIgirl11 January 2019
As an Islander, and a resident of Cavendish, I find this show to be not only completely ridiculous, but insulting. The residents of Cavendish looked like uneducated fools. A mythical beast that comes out once a year to "steal" people? Seriously? And the whole town goes out to hunt the beast like the townsfolk in Disney's Beauty and the Beast ... I am at a loss for words. How about just a touch of research about the area? There are no caves for the beast to hide in; we have no deer on the Island. All that aside, even if they named it something else, said it was some fictional town as opposed to one of the most popular tourist destinations on PEI, it was not funny.

Hyper-realism
aaronearl-7962523 January 2019
As a life long resident of Cavendish I really enjoy seeing our traditions on display here, this show is completely accurate and anyone who tells you differrent is a coward and a fool. Again as a 100% true born islander I can assert with absolute certainty that we all fear the beast more than god himself and that our hospital is among the most advanced in the world and any assertation to the contrary ia no doubt a product of the vicious outlanders, as we on the island call them. Besides being the most accurate depiction of PEI to ever appeare on a television, the show is also hilarious. created by comedic geniuses Mark little and Andrew Bush, the show is driven by an absurdist humour held in place by flawless delivery and a genuine love for the characters and location.

High hopes...completely dashed
talkwithmiller13 January 2019
As an islander, I was looking forward to this. And I can honestly say it was worse than I could have ever expected. Could it have been too much to ask for this show to provide even one laugh? How about a chuckle? A grin then? Nope. No mirth for you.

God, what a dissapointment. Quite possibly the worst show I have ever watched.

Cavendish is a great show!
IslandofDeer11 January 2019
I'm excited after watching the first episode, what a great pilot! So much potential here. The Cavendish local complaining about this super creative and hilarious show should be excited that there is a series set on the Island, and bringing money to the local economy, instead of nitpicking about whether or not there are *actually* deer on PEI. Thanks though for clarifying that there are no real beasts on the Island irl, PHEWF! This review has bummed me out. Stop crapping on new fun stuff! Would you rather watch Gerry Dee honk around for another 800 years come on!!

Inaccurate and not funnyI
neilcw-8699616 January 2019
A great opportunity to highlight the natural beauty of PEI, pretty sure i filmed in Ontario. The Charlottetown festival produces amazing home grown talent, could you at least invite one on the show to make sure the references are actually from the island, what a waste, islanders are much funnier that these guys.

Cavendish is my new favourite Canadian comedy
michael-g-kimber23 January 2019
Pretty blown away by the quality of Canadian comedy series these days. Schitts Creek is finally being recognized as one of the best shows on TV and Cavendish is funny, dark and absurd in a way I've never seen done on Canadian television. Not surprising as Andy Bush and Mark Little have been making great stuff since starting Picnicface in the dawn of the YouTube era. Great to see two talented filmmakers making exactly the type of show they wanrt to make with full support of the CBC. Keep em coming.

I love this super amazing show. There is nothing better being made right now. Don't tell The Bachelor I said that. I mean it. Those fans will cut you.

Inspiration for writers with no ability to write.
khunkrumark22 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I gave it my best shot, but this really is dire. Two brothers return to their home town after twenty years for reasons that aren't explained. When they get there the rest of the episode is an attempt to conjure up interest in the ''legendary" beast, a monster that seems to haunt the place and inspire superstitions. The vehicles to inspire our intrigue are the well worn premises of oddball residents or wandering around the woods at night.

It's just awful. The eight year old boy who is stabbed was probably praying for a quick death. I was. So will you be. This has the wit and charm of a cracked bathroom tile. Avoid.

UPDATE: The makers and fans of this program REALLY want to boost this lazy rubbish. My review has been 'down-voted' 40 times and 40 almost identical reviews drooling over this tripe have been posted all in the space of ONE HOUR!

All of the IMDB accounts all signed up within 2 hours of each other. Click on the profile names and you'll see just how dishonest the makers of this show are being.

This is what we call 'Fake News', folks! LOL!

I was scared this show was going to be scary like the movie Hereditary because there are bats in the poster, but it's not scary, it's funny! I can't wait to watch more episodes.

Dreadful Waste of Taxpayers' Money
BR-323 January 2019
Nothing to do with the real town or PEI. Cast is both unattractive and can't act. Writers should be fired. Not a laugh in the entire show. Might appeal to juveniles under 12 years of age. The worst TV series ever foisted on us by the CBC.

Hilarious and so PEI
jennboo-0696823 January 2019
Being an islander I am really impressed by this show. Of course they've taken some liberties (caves, deer..) but! It's fictional! I love that it takes place in PEI, and it's not about green gables or set in the 1800s. Mark and Andrew poke fun at islanders, and my favorite to date is the local mumblers (guys who talk so fast without moving their lips usually found in bars or fishing boats). You can tell these guys really do love PEI.
