Cheesy and forced-feminism again!
asb_deutsch14 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Food shots? Couldn't it get worse? It was obvious that Black Panther Vice and Marry Poppins were just surge the view-ship ratings.

Pros: Actor Jeff Bridges and Producer Peter Farrelly were motivating. Actor Bale proved that he is not only the Dark Knight but can hadle any role. Amber Heard and Taylor Swift looked so sexy that my heart almost fluttered! Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse: Golden Globes, thanks for not letting Disney win. Glenn Close was the surprise element!

Cons: Most of the winners you could have guessed with ease. Andy Samberg looked cheesy while punching the one-liners. Needs to better rehearsed! Sandra Oh hosting the ceremony and winning the coveted prize...Sheesh!

A solid awards show that got better towards the end
Horst_In_Translation7 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Here we have the 76th Golden Globe Awards that actually just aired last night and still there's already two reviews on here, so I will be number 3 I assume. Anyway, this one ran for 3 hours including commercials, so two hours 20 minutes roughly without commercials. And like every year there was a distinction into TV film/mini series, TV series and films with the latter obviously being the unofficial highlight of the night.

Hosts were Sandra Oh, actually a winner that night too and Andy Samberg from B99 and SNL. Well I must say I am not a fan of the latter, so maybe my perception here is biased, but I thought the hosts were both really weak and their material as well. Been a while since I watched such a show without a single laugh-out-loud moment coming from the hosts really. And their painfully unfunny opening monologue was definitely not a good sign. The less tehy appeared later on the better and at some point they were almost entirely gone because they had to rush the categories to stay under 3 hours. Okay that Carol Burnett award was a bit cringeworthy admittedly and I'm not sure if they will really carry that tradition on. Why not give the Lifetime Achievement Award to a television legend occasionally. Carrell's introduction was solid though, her joke about accepting the award every year from now on not so much. LAA went to Jeff Bridges this year by the way and he was fun as always. Harrison Ford nailed it afterwards. Now as for the winners. Biggest surprise was maybe Bohemian Rhapsody taking Best Drama over A Star is Born and I totally love it because the former is my favorite film of 2018 and the latter I found really overrated. Also not too many probably saw Close winning over Lady Gaga, another positive surprise and it will be interesting to see if we get a Close/Colman race to the Oscars now or if Gaga can still return. She will need the SAG for that probably. It hurts her perhaps that she is sweeping Best Song this year I don't know. Now anyway for the other winners I am so happy for Rami Malek and honestly this win could propel him into best lead for the Oscar too as I don't think Christian Bale is that big of a danger and if Gaga doesn't win her category, then there's no way Cooper will win his acting category. We'll see. And Mahershala Ali could be on his way to a second supporting Oscar if Grant or Elliott won't succeed in closing the gap. Who'd have thought that five years ago. Cuaron and Roma (Foreign) seem to be fairly safe now with Cuaron also having good chances at a win for cinematography as for once he did not collaborate with Lubezki. I'd have preferred to see Isle of Dogs take animated, but I can live with Spider Man I guess. Some talk about diversity there and also more from the Best Comedy Movie winners and another one before that I think Best Mini Series. Still strange to see Darren Criss from Glee racking up these awards to be honest. Role of his career I assume.

They did not criticize PotUS verbally this time (luckily), but their messages were very clear. Here and there some words on females living in the industry, but also not too much this time. Focus was on the awards and we should not take that for granted as literally 99% of awards shows these days in music are concert shows with awards playing the second fiddle. So luckily they are not showing us trailers and shor films at the Globes and Oscars (yet?). Oh yeah Regina King is on course to an oscar too now, she dominated a lot this awards season and there's probably no way her streak will end now that she has the Globe, which really wasn't given she gets it over Adams, Foy and the favorite girls. I will not use the term Colman did, but I would have liked Stone to win. It's nice to see her back on the awards circuit and I am really curious about The Favorite. Okay, I think that is all basically. Not a bad awards show. Some weaker moments like Poehler and Rudolph's bizarre routine, but stuff like this you get every time. I still believe the good outweighs the bad. So if you like awards shows, then check this one out. Also really surprised about Whishaw's win. I thought he was like last in his category. Oh well. Thumbs up as a whole. And by the way, anybody else thinks it is a priceless irony that Christian Bale, after winning his award, compared Dick Cheney to Satan given how we have alll heard the tapes of Bale unleashing against some poor production assistants in the most diabolical manner??

The 76th Annual Golden Middle-Of-The-Road Globe Awards
Gresh8547 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Here are some quick jots on my "thoughts" on some of tonight's Golden Globe "winners".

Best Motion Picture - Drama Winner: Bohemian Rhapsody

Well, I can give the academy one thing, I did NOT expect this to win-or even get nominated for that matter. That being said, this is the last film I would ever desire to have won. Don't @ me. Please.

Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama Winner: Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody)

YES! The only awe-inspiring part about Bohemian Rhapsody! Congrats, Malek, it's about time you won a Golden Globe.

Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama Winner: Glenn Close (The Wife)

Didn't see it...so...

Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy Winner: Green Book

Also, didn't see it...but...c'mon...The Favourite should win everything.

Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy Winner: Olivia Colman

YES! (x1,000,000) 100% W-E-L-L D-E-S-E-R-V-E-D.

Best Director - Motion Picture Winner: Alfonso Cuaron (Roma)

Umm...of course. No duhhh.

Best Motion Picture - Foreign Language Winner: Roma

Duhhh...again.

Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy Winner: Christian Bale (Vice)

Didn't see, Vice. Christian Bale deserves 78 Golden Globes either way just for existing. American Psycho.

Best Screenplay - Motion Picture Winner: Peter Farrelly, Nick Vallelonga, Brian Currie (Green Book)

THE FAVOURITE.

Best Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture Winner: Mahershala Ali (Green Book)

What a dude. Still haven't seen, Green Book.

Best Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture Winner: Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk)

Good for her! However, we all know Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz BOTH should've won as a "duo force".

Best Original Song - Motion Picture Winner: Shallow (A Star Is Born)

I adore the song! Suspirium by Thom Yorke should've won thou...wait? Are you telling me...are you telling me that it wasn't even nominated? Wha...what do you mean it wasn't nominated? What the he...

Best Original Score - Motion Picture Winner: Justin Hurwitz (First Man)

I'm cheer to see that, First Man, is getting at least "some" love.

Best Motion Picture - Animated Winner: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Thank you, Golden Globes, for not letting Disney win.

Yep. The Golden Globes was conclusively just, ehhh, once again. Typical.

The Saga of the Snake-Bit Coopers continues . . .
oscaralbert7 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
. . . with the 2019 GOLDEN GLOBES AWARDS. When Cooper Patriarch "D.B." filched half of Hollywood's money supply in the late 1900s, he did not plan for his Golden Parachute to plop him down into a snake pit. Though D.B.'s Exit Strategy had provided for a test-tube heir to carry on the family name, Tinsel Town's Nest of Vipers kept much of the ill-gotten loot for themselves, Therefore, D.B.'s namesake was left with a shortened handle and only enough dough to make Fantasy Musicals (a far cry from the Action Blockbusters Pops Cooper had envisioned for Junior). After the LA LA LAND fiasco of two years ago, the young whelp again manages to snatch defeat from the Jaws of Nagani with A STAR IS BORN at this year's GLOBES. Little "Coop" should realize that his jig is up, and withdraw NOW from the 2019 Oscar Race. (Maybe if he's lucky, he can recoup some of his squandered swag by snagging a non-singing part in FURIOUS 12 or OCEAN'S 14). As Freud often observed, putting all of one's snakes into a single basket is the Definition of Insanity!

Great honest comedy, wonderful to see the rich wannabe moral arbiters get a talking to and put in their place, when you start making good movies and stop attacking the audience at every turn maybe then you can push some more personal brand snake oil but for now More Ricky Pls.
