Distribution outfit Drive has inked several pre-Mipcom deals for royal documentary “Queen of the World” on the eve of the Cannes market getting underway.
Drive netted the international rights to the show earlier this year. The two-part factual series looks at the Commonwealth – the international group of nations that were formerly part of the British Empire – and how it has been a central focus and passion throughout the life of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II.
Oxford Films produced the documentary, building on its pedigree of making royal shows such as “Our Queen at 90” and “Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy.”
HBO had already bought it for the U.S. when Drive took international rights, and the distributor has done new deals in Europe, Australasia, and the Middle East.
ITV in the U.K. commissioned “Queen of the World.” Rtl has bought it for the Netherlands, Nrk for Norway, and Yle in Finland.

She may be 92 years old, but Queen Elizabeth is far from old and boring. In fact, after 65 years on the throne, the British monarch seemingly can't hide how funny she is. "One of the things that surprised me most is she’s got a fantastic sense of humor," Nick Kent, executive producer of the new documentary, Queen of the World, told Closer Weekly in the magazine's newest issue, on newsstands now. Perhaps she lets out her laughter from time to time because she knows she could be intimidating to those who don't know her. "I think that’s why she goes to great lengths to put people at ease," Kent added. "When people actually meet her, they say things like, 'Oh, she’s just like my grammy!'" (Photo Credit: Getty Images) Prince Harry even joked in the documentary about how he gets nervous when he runs into the Queen.

It's been 65 years since Queen Elizabeth took the throne after her father King George's untimely death from a blood clot at age 56. But taking the throne and becoming the British monarch at age 27 wasn't exactly easy for Liz. Just 14 years after her dad's passing, the now-92-year-old launched the Royal Yacht Britannia, a dream of George's, and footage of the ceremony is shown in the new documentary, Queen of the World. "She had an aura of sadness and it was picked up in the press," Robin, Countess of Onslow once said. Prince Charles, 69, also one shared, "To commit to that challenge the way she did was truly remarkable. It appeared effortless, but it wasn't, of course." (Photo Credit: Getty Images) The Queen has one said that grief "is the price we pay for love. When life seems hard, the courageous do not lie down and accept defeat; instead, they are...

We all know Princess Anne has a style all her own, but a new documentary has given us a glimpse behind the scenes of the royal family. In Queen of the World, Anne really upped the attitude and somehow made us love her even more. From shaking hands to what to call your mother when she happens to be the queen, Anne had us in stitches with her thoughts and opinions. Ahead of the show's Us debut on HBO on Oct. 1, here are just a few of those moments that proved she's the sassiest royal of them all (although Princess Charlotte seems to be coming for second place!).

It's been 65 years since Queen Elizabeth first took the throne, and although she's 92 years old today, she's still keeping the monarchy young. Let's put it this way: she's a lot cooler than anyone probably imagined. "The Queen is very media-savvy in quite surprising ways, and it goes back to her coronation, which was televised," Nick Kent, executive producer of the new documentary, Queen of the World, told Closer in the magazine's newest issue, on newsstands now. "It was her idea to do so, as it was her way of saying hers was a new age. And she did it against the advice of the establishment, including Prime Minister Winston Churchill." (Photo Credit: Getty Images) Yvonne Browne, vice president of the Women's Institute, also previously told People back in 2015 that "she's very much in the modern world, and as most grandparents know, if they want to keep in touch with their...

She's not slowing down! Queen Elizabeth has been on the throne for 65 years, but that doesn't mean she's ready to throw in the towel on royal life. In fact, at 92 years old, the British monarch is at her peak. "She’s still working as hard as ever," Nick Kent, executive producer of the new documentary, Queen of the World, told Closer Weekly in the magazine's newest issue, on newsstands now. "And retirement doesn’t seem to be in her vocabulary!" (Photo Credit: Getty Images) And while she takes her work very seriously, Prince Philip's wife also makes time for family and her hobbies. "One of the extraordinary things about Elizabeth is that she still goes out riding on her horses two or three times a week," Kent revealed. "If you want to see the queen at her most relaxed, that’s probably it." He added, "Enjoying your work is...

At 92 years old, Queen Elizabeth has waved to a lot of royal fans over the years. So, when a group of Australian students once gave the monarch a fake waving hand she was "thrilled" to receive the gag gift! "They gave her a stuffed glove on a wooden lever so that you could tweak the end of the lever and this hand went to and fro," Queen Elizabeth's daughter, Princess Anne, told author Robert Hardman in his book, Queen of the World, according to People. "I think they thought it was rather cheeky but Her Majesty was thrilled." (Photo Credit: Getty Images) Though it's not actually known if the Queen has used the funny fake waving hand in public, Hardman called the present an "inspired invention" and suggested it was probably taken back to Elizabeth's Balmoral Estate in Scotland to be enjoyed privately by the royal family. Last year, a...

As Netflix’s “The Crown” has spent two seasons proving, Queen Elizabeth II is fascinating precisely because of how uninteresting she is. She has to be in order for her title and office to make sense; she’s spent 65 years as the standard-bearer of British life and culture, and bearing herself with unflappable composure and a comforting staidness is the point. All of which makes her a challenging subject for art; she has little of the public dynamism that keeps us watching.
And yet “Queen of the World,” a new documentary airing on HBO Oct. 1, makes the case both for her stoic refusal to change as a boon to the planet and for the idea that she’s shifted more than is visible to the stateside observer. The documentary depicts the royal family’s efforts to engage with the world through the Commonwealth of Nations, an intergovernmental group that fosters cooperation and exchange between countries,...

Huh? In the new ITV documentary Queen of the World, Queen Elizabeth's daughter, Princess Anne, revealed she won't shake hands with fans at royal events. But before you start thinking that Anne, 68, is just super rude, the royal actually has a totally valid reason for not treating crowds of people to handshakes. "We never shook hands. The theory was that you couldn’t shake hands with everybody, so don’t start. So I kind of stick with that, but I noticed others don’t," she said in a newly released clip for Queen of the World — which is set to air on HBO in the Us on Monday, Oct. 1 — according to People. (Photo Credit: Getty Images) "It’s not for me to say that [shaking hands is] wrong. It’s become a shaking hands exercise rather than a walkabout," Anne continued, referring to members of the monarchy interacting with fans today. She also...

Meghan Markle's "accent" has Twitter in a frenzy once again. Over the summer, social media went wild over a clip of the Duchess of Sussex speaking in what seemed to be a slight British accent during a public appearance in Cheshire, England. Now, Twitter is buzzing once again over a clip of Meghan in Queen Elizabeth II's documentary, Queen of the World, which first appeared online over the weekend. In the clip, Meghan is reunited with her Givenchy wedding dress from her May nuptials with Prince Harry. "Oh my goodness, it's amazing, isn't it?" Meghan says as she takes a look at her dress. "The work that they did here is just so beautiful." "Somewhere in here...

Bumping into Queen Elizabeth II during any occasion would cause a frenzy for anyone, even her own family, according to Prince Harry.
In a short clip from the upcoming documentary Queen of the World, Prince Harry is seen chatting and joking to a group of Caribbean scholars at Buckingham Palace. As he greets them, he asks if they've got nice rooms and jokes "you're not all bunked in one room together?", to which one of the trainees replies "parties every night." He then says "you guys will spend way more time in Buckingham Palace than I ever have, and you've only been here for two weeks." He asked if they've met the queen and jokes, "If you suddenly bump into her in the corridor, don't panic. I know you will. We all do." Although we're sure Harry doesn't really panic every time he sees his grandma, they certainly don't have a typical grandson/grandmother relationship.

There's romance in the details, and the royal wedding had plenty of both. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's nuptials on May 19 were a worldwide event, but some lovely secrets they kept for themselves - until now, that is. According to People, in a new clip for the upcoming documentary Queen of the World, Meghan reveals that there's actually a special nod to her husband hidden within her 16-foot veil.
"Somewhere in here there's a piece of blue fabric that's stitched inside - it was my something blue," Meghan shared as she looked over her veil for the first time since the wedding. She added, "It's fabric from the dress that I wore on our first date."
Her veil also paid tribute to each of the 53 counties in the Commonwealth, a surprise Harry was "over the moon" about.
"I think the other members of the family had a similar reaction...
