- It's Bread Week, and the ten remaining bakers have a lot to prove with three tough challenges set by judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith. There is a teatime fruity favourite Signature; a deceptively simple time-test of a Technical with an international flavour; and an ambitious Showstopper that's the largest bread sculpture challenge ever set in the tent. Only one can claim Star Baker, while one of them will leave the tent for good.
- The bakers will have to contend with one of the most divisive baking tasks, in either loving or hating making it, namely baking bread, with the added pressure of knowing it is judge Paul's specialty. Each will have to make twelve Chelsea buns for the signature, the only stipulation being that they must be baked in a tray with their sides touching, that way which it will be served so that Paul and Prue can experience that traditional "tear and share" moment for judging. In one of the shortest ever technicals at only one hours in duration, the bakers are each required to make a batch of eight non-yeasted, garlic-topped naan, and while most homemade naan is done on the stovetop, they are asked to grill theirs. And for the showstopper for which they are given the opposite extreme of five hours to complete, each baker is asked to make an Eastern European festival bread called korovai of at least three tiers and decorated to signify the celebration of their choosing.—Huggo
