The first time Ethan Edenburg, Eric Jackowitz, and Tom McGovern hung out, they wrote a song. It was March 2022, and they were in Los Angeles, toying around with their instruments, when the conversation turned to what it would be like to have a midlife crisis while visiting Las Vegas.
“It’s a Sunday on the Strip. My divorced-ass moved to Vegas,” McGovern started singing as he played piano. “My wife left and took the kids. And it’s a good thing that she did ’cause they were annoying as shit.

This article contains major spoilers for "Lisa Frankenstein."
Hollywood has its eyes on "Lisa Frankenstein." The '80s horror comedy marks the feature directorial debut of Zelda Williams, the return of Diablo Cody to the teen horror comedy subgenre for the first time in 15 years, and has the potential to be the first big box office hit of 2024. If you had told me four years ago that one day an '80s-set zombie rom-com featuring "Freaky" star Kathryn Newton and Cole "Jughead Jones" Sprouse would be one of the most anticipated releases of the year, I'd wonder how you got a time machine and where you put my diaries.
Given its tone and delightfully odd story, "Lisa Frankenstein" is sure to be a polarizing film. It's an '80s film to its core, not just in its setting, but also in its approach to comedy. Many have compared the film...

Zelda Williams has wonderful memories of being on film sets as a kid, watching her father, Robin Williams, shoot movies like Hook and Bicentennial Man. But that doesn’t mean she inherited his bombastic sense of humor. “I’m a bit darker,” says Williams, 34. “I’m the person who laughed during Hereditary.”
Williams is putting those dark impulses on full display in her feature directorial debut, Lisa Frankenstein, in theaters Feb. 9. Written by Diablo Cody, the film is an Eighties retelling of the Mary Shelley classic (think less chemistry experiments,...

"You mean actually make a record? A record record, record?"
The Wonders, formerly known as The Oneders, are about to make a splash on vinyl yet again. The soundtrack for the Tom Hanks-directed comedy "That Thing You Do!" is getting the vinyl soundtrack treatment, celebrating the story of the fictional one-hit wonders who skyrocketed on the Billboard charts and disappeared just as quickly. Tom Everett Scott, Johnathon Schaech, Steve Zahn, and Ethan Embry played the band in question (and they reunited at the height of the pandemic), while Tom Hanks portrayed the record executive who brought them to stardom.
In collaboration with Play-Tone, Sony Music, and 20th Century Studios, Mondo is releasing a special edition of the soundtrack featuring the earworm of a title song, as well as some of The Wonders' lesser celebrated tracks, including their big screen appearance singing "Shrimp Shack" as Cap'n Geech & The Shrimp Shack Shooters.

“Formula” can be a dirty word among music fans. For many, it evokes thoughts of unimaginative, knackered music by artists dropping off uninspired fan service just to say they did. Artists are pressured by sects of fans to expand their lyrical content, create versatile projects, and promise new innovations with every album. Sometimes, the right sonic pivot changes the scope of popular music. And other times, they get artists on lists of bad albums by brilliant artists.
Everyone can appreciate some sonic wandering, but sometimes, as is the case with Atlanta rapper Young Nudy,...

James Franco’s casting as Fidel Castro in “Alina of Cuba” has been met with swift backlash on social media.
As confirmed Thursday by TheWrap, the actor will portray the Cuban revolutionary in the upcoming indie film about his daughter Alina Fernandez.
Actor John Leguizamo, a vocal advocate for greater Latino representation in Hollywood, led the charge on Instagram.
“How is this still going on?” he wrote in a Friday post. “How is Hollywood excluding us but stealing our narratives as well? No more appropriation Hollywood and streamers! Boycott! This F’d up!”
Adding that it would be “seriously difficult” to represent Castro “without aggrandizement,” the “Encanto” star said: “I don’t got a prob with Franco but he ain’t Latino!”

Teacher story “Ms. Bixby’s Last Day” is in development as a feature film with Gunpowder & Sky and Walden Media.
Gunpowder & Sky announced Thursday that it has acquired the rights to the novel “Ms. Bixby’s Last Day,” written by John David Anderson. The adapted script has been penned by the writing team of Linsey Stewart and Dane Clark.
“I don’t have a sentimental bone in my body, yet we all remember teachers — who have had an impact on us. Ms. Bixby is an homage to those teachers who make our family, school and life feel okay,” said Van Toffler, CEO of Gunpowder & Sky. “Walden Media has a long tradition of producing great adaptations of children’s books such as ‘Wonder’ and ‘The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe,’ so we knew they were the perfect partner for this story.”

“A Kid Like Jake” director Silas Howard will direct an Lgbtq-focused horror film “Moonshadow” for Gunpowder & Sky, the content studio announced Monday.
Gunpower & Sky will partner with Yomyomf and Nonetheless Productions to develop the film. Ernesto Foronda (“Better Luck Tomorrow”) and Daniel Foerster wrote the screenplay for “Moonshadow,” which was inspired by Daniel Foerster’s own experience with Lgbtq conversation therapy. The film will chronicle a transgender teen who is sent to a science-based conversation camp, where he quickly learns the youth are being transformed into something non-human.
“With a battle over transgender rights playing out on the national stage, and as a member and advocate of the trans community, I feel it is critical to be a part of the conversation,” said Howard. “The current generation of young people is living with entirely new expectations about gender and sexuality, and ‘Moonshadow’ is for them.”

Gunpowder & Sky has partnered with Zelda Williams to develop her short film Shrimp, which premiered this year at the Tribeca TV Festival, into a weekly half-hour series.
Written, directed, produced by and starring Williams, who is Robin Williams’ daughter, the show will chronicle the lives of people who work and play in a Los Angeles bondage discipline sadism and masochism (BDSM) dens. The series will also star Conor Leslie (“The Man in the High Castle”), Paulina Singer (“Dead of Summer”), Frances Fisher (“The Edge of Night”), Jake Abel (“Supernatural”), Jacob Zachar (“Greek”), and Danielle Campbell (“StarStruck”).
“We were really drawn to ‘Shrimp’ because Zelda was able to take a generally taboo topic, turn it on its head and tap into the day-to-day happenings of the dominatrix community and tell their story in an authentic way,” said Van Toffler, CEO of Gunpowder & Sky. “At Gunpowder & Sky, we’re constantly looking...

As her own acting career gets underway, Zelda Williams is relying on the advice of her late father, Robin Williams. The 29-year-old actress recently spoke about Robin's words of wisdom in an interview with Et while promoting her upcoming movie Shrimp during the Tribeca TV Festival. "It was always, you know, be kind, work very hard," Zelda said.
Zelda also expressed a gripe about competing personalities in the industry, and how ego can often get in the way of a project. "I think the concept of ego has kind of taken over for a lot of people in our industry," she said. "Truthfully, you're not your audience so all that self-consciousness and all that - it gets in the way of you actually just being the best thing in whatever thing that you're doing."
