Cher is supporting the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) with her first-ever Spanish-language single, a cover of Abba’s “Chiquitita.” She has simultaneously released an English-language version as well.
In the new cover, she huskily sings the song’s lyrics of encouragement for a forlorn friend over its winding acoustic guitar melody. A video for the song will debut during Unicef’s Covid-19 Virtual Special on Saturday.
Cher covered the English-language version of “Chiquitita” for her 2018 Abba tribute album Dancing Queen. She began rehearsing the Spanish-language version late last year.

Brooke Shields and her daughter, Rowan Francis, are channeling their inner “Dancing Queen.”
On Monday, the mother-daughter duo lip-synced to Abba’s “Angel Eyes,” featured in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again while wearing bathrobes and pink towels wrapped around their heads.
During their sing-a-long, which Shields, 54, shared to Instagram, the pair initially nailed the lines while simultaneously sipping on peach-colored drinks held in their hands.
But in one take, Rowan, 16, started giggling after messing up one of the lyrics and losing her place in the song — causing her famous mom to also break out in hysterics.
“Finally getting the hang of this!

The soundtrack to Netflix’s “The Two Popes” is the tonally diverse product of Grammy Award-winning musician Bryce Dessner who was tasked by director Fernando Meirelles to score the film, generating large-scale cinematic energy to unseen, intimate moments between religious figures.
Scheduled for release on Friday, Dec. 20, “The Two Popes” explores the friendship between Pope Benedict and Cardinal Bergoglio (the future Pope Francis), two pivotal figures in the recent and highly turbulent history of the Catholic church. The story of conservative-leaning Benedict’s decision to resign (from a position typically served until death) was placed in contrast to forward-thinking Bergoglio’s apprehension towards the papacy. The film exposes the two clergymen’s fundamental differences as they deal, together, with surfacing corruption and the future of the Catholic church.

Don’t tell Trump, but the pope is arguably the only world leader with more power than the U.S. president. And yet, despite its importance — and the fact that popes typically serve unto death, rather than four to eight years at a time — the position gets considerably less attention in popular entertainment. Maybe it’s just that few filmmakers dare to speculate about the personal life of someone whom 1.2 billion believers look to for guidance, when that massive global following would seem all the more reason to wonder what goes on behind closed doors at the Vatican.
In “The Two Popes,” Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles rushes in where angels fear to tread, with surprisingly emotional — and even more surprisingly comedic — results, dramatizing a series of face-to-face meetings between Pope Benedict XVI and his successor, Pope Francis, né Jorge Mario Bergoglio, that took place before one of the most shocking...

Little did the audience at the world premiere of “The Two Popes” know that the papal two-hander is actually very funny.
No, it’s not a comedy, but the jokes and ribbing between Pope Benedict XVI (Anthony Hopkins) and the future pope, Cardinal Bergoglio (Jonathan Pryce), played well in the packed Chuck Jones’ Cinema, as did hearing Abba’s “Dancing Queen” played over footage of the College of Cardinals making its way into the Vatican for the Papal election.
In other words, director Fernando Meirelles’ film, inspired by Pope Benedict XVI’s decision to resign and subsequent transfer of power to the more progressive Cardinal Bergoglio, is not a straight drama. Although the film did earn the audience’s admiration, and some sniffles toward its end.

Of course, one would assume that the Amaya Jiwe iteration of Vixen would still be on the table, but bringing her back at this point would contradict her recently concluded character arc. If you’ll recall, she returned to her native period in order to live out her life and assure that her successor and granddaughter, Mari McCabe, comes into existence.

Seeing as how it’s a time traveling show, you could say that no character is off limits for Legends of Tomorrow. Obviously, this extends to the dead, so we’ll just refer you to a guy named Captain Cold if you’re in need of a reminder.

To a much greater degree than their male counterparts, many of music’s top female singers have attempted to make the leap into the next frontier: acting. Yet only a few have managed to sustain major screen careers.
Does Lady Gaga possess the thespian talent to pull it off? She already has a Golden Globe for “American Horror Story” to go along with her six Grammys. Now, with her first starring role in a feature film, the just-opened fourth remake of “A Star Is Born,” she’s on the edge of potential Oscar glory.
You could say the true test of potential staying power for female singers has been the screen test. Doris Day aced hers in the golden age of Hollywood, and so, in the rock era, did Cher, after several flubs (including the 1969 flop “Chastity”). Barbra Streisand and Bette Midler both started in the theater but became famous...

The Grammy eligibility period ended on Sunday, September 30. The nominations won’t be announced until December 5, but everything that can be nominated has already been released. And as with movie studios, which often release their most competitive films towards the end of the year to make a strong last impression on Oscar voters, there are a number of last-minute music releases that have snuck into the Grammy race right under the wire. How many of them will make the cut?
The movie musical “A Star is Born” and its soundtrack don’t drop until October 5, so they won’t be eligible until the Grammys that will be held in 2020, but Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper released the lead single from that album, “Shallow,” on September 27, so they could make the cut at this year’s awards with that song, especially if the enthusiasm for the film carries over to the recording academy as well.

This has been the year in which Netflix finally cracked the code of unscripted TV. “Queer Eye” is a zeitgeist sensation and an Emmy winner; “Nailed It!” is a beloved and askew take on the sort of competition show the Food Network popularized.
Now comes “Dancing Queen,” a series that follows a similar approach to Netflix’s other unscripted successes. Borrowing liberally from other franchises, the show ultimately comes into its own through a refreshingly sunny disposition, one it shares both with its fellow Netflix series and with its star.
“Dancing Queen” follows Alyssa Edwards, née Justin Dwayne Lee Johnson, a drag queen known for two seasons’ worth of appearances on “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” In addition to drag success, Johnson, when presenting as himself, runs a dance studio in Mesquite, Texas, where he trains youngsters to work in unison toward aesthetic perfection. It’s a goal that shares, in...

If Cher could turn back time, would she make amends with Madonna? If her latest appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show is any indication, the answer is a clear "hell no." To promote her Abba cover album, Dancing Queen, and her upcoming Here We Go Again Tour, Cher played a game called "5 Second Rule" with Ellen DeGeneres Monday (check your local listings). The premise of the game was simple: Stephen "tWitch" Boss would read a prompt, and then one of the players had to offer three different answers in five seconds or less. At one point, an innocuous question gave Cher the chance to make a dig at her famous frenemy. "Name three celebrities you'd want to do a duet with," Boss...

There comes a moment in every Metallica gig lately where guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo take the spotlight for themselves. It’s listed officially on the band’s set lists as “Kirk/Rob Doodle” – a sort of open-ended “they’re gonna do whatever they want” – and it’s allowed them to stretch out in interesting ways.
They started out in 2017 riffing on infrequently-played entries from the Metallica oeuvre, like “Bleeding Me” and “I Disappear” and followed them with Trujillo’s take on the late Cliff Burton’s “(Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth” bass solo.

Cher has offered up another preview of her Abba tribute album Dancing Queen with an emotional take on the Swedish pop group’s 1981 single “One of Us.” Dancing Queen will be out next Friday.
On “One of Us,” Cher strips away much of the tropical production on the original to make the heaviness and dark lyrical content the proper forefront. The song appeared on Abba’s final album, The Visitor, and was heavily influenced by the divorces of the two couples in the quartet.

At age 72, Cher is confident she's at the top of her game. "I have unbelievable pipes. My doctor says I'm a freak," beamed the legendary entertainer, whose new album, Dancing Queen, drops Sept. 28. Even Barbra Streisand is impressed by her chutzpah. "I was talking to Barbra one day," Cher recently revealed to The New York Times. "She asked, 'Why do you still sing?' I said, 'Because there's going to come a day when I can't. No one will want to come see me.'" That's hard to believe considering Cher's knack for reinvention and countless comebacks, which will all be chronicled in The Cher Show premiering on Broadway this December. In the musical, Cher is portrayed by three actresses of differing ages. (Photo Credit: Getty Images) "It's a great idea because I've lived so long that I really have been distinct personalities," the singer, who's co-producing the show, has said of the project.
