Greatly defined by its memorable song
"Hold Me Now" by Thompson Twins is one of the most perfect romantic pop hymns of the 1980's, a great blend of catchy parts, ideal lyrics and a vibrant
sound that echoes through your ears for life. At least for me. This clip, even though just another of performance kind of video, is memorable for possibly
two or three things. It's not one of those where the image must speak higher volumes to sell the song as it was the norm back in the 1980's of heavy MTV's
popularity of big budgets clips. What speaks volumes here is the sound and a nice one.
Video presents Thompson Twins members performing the song behind this intense blue scenario, often playing different instruments - they were a multi-task trio - in between some corny editing tricks and other more adequate moments. There's feelings and emotions reflected in just a performance, sometimes even more than creating a story where the group members or actors are put into roles to play characters in a cute or spectacular story. In this particular case, with this song in special, I wouldn't want to see a melodramatic short film telling me how to remember the story or a couple going through what the song reveals. The Twins performance while singing and dancing, happy yet not distractive with plenty of appeal by the lead singer, is what counts since they allow us to figure out things, hear the melody and pay attention to what's being said in the music. It's a better accomplishment that those expensive videos that sometimes overshadow the song but makes us interested in the band in another similar creation. Not taking merit or credit of projects like those but there are cases when just the band appearance is the key factor to give us a successful clip. 8/10
