Freeform has given a 10-episode series order to Motherland: Fort Salem, an hourlong drama from Claws creator Eliot Laurence and executive producers Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Kevin Messick. One of the leads in the project is being recast.
Motherland was one of three hourlong pilots at Freeform, along with Party of Five and Breckman Rodeo, all of which have been garnering solid buzz. Party of Five was the first of the bunch to score a series pickup last month, with Breckman Rodeo still in contention.

A year after Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg locked the series finale of “The Americans,” the showrunners’ farewell tour comes to an end this Sunday. The FX show is among the nominees for best drama series at the Writers Guild of America Awards, which reps the last in a string of major kudos for the show.
“We’re grateful because we get to keep having reunions with these people that we love, and it has allowed us to remain in denial about the end,” Fields told Variety. “We’ve had this crazy season where we have all the benefits of enjoying ‘The Americans’ without having to go through the hard part of making another season.”

Justified alum David Meunier is set as a series regular opposite leads Jess Gabor and Noah Le Gros in Freeform’s drama pilot Breckman Rodeo (working title) from writer Steve Lerner, The Americans executive producers Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields, and FX Productions.
Created and written by Lerner, Breckman Rodeo (working title) is an ensemble drama about a group of young rodeo riders in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The show centers on Ashley (Gabor), a rodeo-as-hell spark plug who refuses to stay within the lines that have been drawn for her, and her boyfriend Brant (Le Gros), a rodeo prodigy torn between a content, quiet life and the rocky climb to superstardom.
