To recreate parts of the White House that are unphotographed and off-limits to the general public, the production design team consulted with former White House professional Haley O'Connor. She relied on memory to describe the basement, Chief Usher's office, staff stairwell, and more to the team.
The show was halfway through production when Andre Braugher tragically passed. Giancarlo Esposito was brought in to replace him as A.B. The production ended up using "plates" -- background shots which are then superimposed with other elements during post-production - on some shots and reshot others.
