In 1959, New York Times critic Brooks Atkinson heralded the arrival of a new musical comedy star in Once Upon a Mattress, a retelling of Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Princess and the Pea.” Carol Burnett, he wrote, has “a metallic voice, an ironic gleam, and an unfailing sense of the comic gesture” as she “discharges” the music “as though she were firing a field mortar.” Meanwhile, her co-star, Joe Bova, as Prince Dauntless the Drab, only received mention from Atkinson as one of several “winning young people” backing up Burnett.
Dauntless has always seemed a supporting part, inevitably overshadowed by Princess Winnifred the Woebegone, one of musical theater’s most boisterous, irrepressible heroines. But Michael Urie, playing Dauntless in the new Broadway revival of Once Upon a Mattress, a transfer of the Encores! production that opened in January for a two-week run at New York City Center, reveals that this...

In the "Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Hope and Fear", a visiting alien named Arturis (Ray Wise) helpfully translates some coded information that the U.S.S. Voyager had recently discovered on an abandoned communications network. Arturis unexpectedly decodes the location of a nearby empty Starfleet vessel called the U.S.S. Dauntless, an experimental craft that is equipped with a new kind of warp "slipstream" technology. The Dauntless, unbeknownst to the Voyager crew, was sent specifically out to the Delta Quadrant to bring the Voyager crew back to Earth, and Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) is elated.
It will eventually be revealed, of course, that the Dauntless is an elaborate booby trap constructed by Arturis, who had been secretly hellbent on revenge. His species had recently been assimilated by the Borg, and he blamed Janeway for his planet's destruction. About a year earlier, Janeway had allied with the Borg to pass...

After numerous rumors suggesting as such, Sony finally announced the other day that a very special PlayStation 5 live stream is set to go down next week.
Of course, it’ll be a digital-only affair, which means everyone can get a front row seat via Twitch or YouTube, where the entire show will be broadcast on the official PlayStation channels. And the focus of said live stream will be on the games you’ll be able to get your hands on once the PS5 launches later this year.
But what exactly does Sony have in store for us? Well, we’ll have to wait a few more days to find out the answer to that, though we may now have a hint thanks to a rather substantial leak. And it comes, from all places, courtesy of the PlayStation magazine’s July issue, which will go on sale on June 2nd.
Ahead of that,...

With gaming becoming something of an unintended hobby of many due to spending more time at home, platform owners are doing everything they can to make sure everyone has something to play during the lockdown. Sony, in particular, has been heavily discounting a number of triple-a experiences over the last several weeks and even outright giving some away, but even beyond special promotions and the like, PlayStation 4 is home to a number of games that come free as standard all year round.
Seasoned gamers will no doubt be familiar with at least one or two of those present on this particular list, though even if you’ve perhaps tried all of them in the past, the frequently evolving nature of each makes return visits definitely worth a shot. For the price of absolutely nothing, after all, you can’t go wrong.
So, without further ado, let’s dive in, shall we?...

While the biggest games can be expensive, there are plenty of great releases which won’t cost you a penny…
Looking for something new to play but don't have the dime for the latest release? There's never been a better time to opt for a free-to-play title instead. While "free" once meant lower quality gaming, that's not really the case anymore, with plenty of Aaa-level titles releasing on a F2P model. Mind you, with most of the games on this list, you'll likely be tempted to spend some money on microtransactions, but that really is up to you, isn't it?
