No smooth transition
grammydawn-4340419 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
There were so many gaps from last season that had to be shoved into this episode that it was very disjointed. Bull is fully recovered from a massive heart attack and alcohol addiction; Marissa is married (where did that come from and why); Cable is missing; the team lost 2 cases. Wow.

Regardless of the poor transition, I feel I must make a comment on how trials are portrayed. Many cases are framed as this is the law, but we need to make the jury feel bad for the client. In criminal trials, the jury's duty is to determine if the law was broken, not if the defendant had good reasons. That is all that matters, and the judge would instruct the jury to heed that duty. Stop with the judicial activism.

In this case, it was a civil trial, so anything goes. But, was it the insurance company's fault the patient was injured during treatment? No. In fact, they had probably paid exorbitant amounts for her treatment already. Why was the insurance company's case the one to get to trial so quickly? If everyone felt so bad, why didn't the hospital, equipment manufacturers and doctors offer settlement? Because the big, bad insurance company is an easy target. Lazy writing.

And finally, will we ever find out if she was able to get a liver in time? Doubtful she would even make it to the top of the list due to her poor health. Was she a candidate for a living donor (partial liver) transplant. Again, lazy writing, and lack of research.

I'm still sad Michael Weatherly left NCIS, and the more I see of this show - for which I had high hopes - the sadder I get.

Off to a good start but a painfully bad ending
ildpaus3 March 2021
The majority of the episode is good - morally grey, with legitimate arguments on both sides (almost like real life!) - let down my a cheesy ending to the episode that completely deflated any tension created

Season 3 off to a poor, depressing start

Warning: Spoilers
I thought this episode was shocking at the beginning & completely disappointing overall. The entire episode we were wondering why the Bridge collapse wasn't mentioned. Annoying. Then, in the court case, the dying woman should've won, & Bull should've lost. He was on the wrong side & we were rooting for him to lose. That's not good TV.

Then on top of that, Cable is dead from the bridge collapse from he beginning. They FINALLY mention it. And everyone is upset about her death but life goes on & they're fine. I know the actress wanted to leave, and I've read that the producers dudnt think of any other ways to explain her absence. Uh, what about, her mother took ill & she had to take a break? Or her mother died & she had to help her family. Or she had a terrible accident & she's in a coma. All those are just off the top of my head, and they didn't involve her dying. Plus she could've come back in the future when her film is done.

Are the producers so lazy that they didn't bother to think of those options, or are they so arrogant that they thought the audience would just love everything they do. Well, we hated this episode, & hate what Dr. Phil's show has become. It's a cheap knock off of the Jerry Springer show. It's uncomfortable, nasty & tasteless. Plus he drags his wife & kid on to push their money grubbing schemes. It's so transparent, but people fall for it. I hate it & was worried when I saw his name on this show. Maybe that influence on this show will drive Bull into the ground as well. It already got worse last season, & having Bull be an alcoholic & heart attack survivor is just depressing. We only watched for Michael Weatherly, and although we love the cast, if the shows keep being bad & depressing, we'll drop the show.

FYI, I don't understand leaving a successful show to do a maybe film project. In the competitive world of acting, you should stick with a sure thing, imho. The actress who plays Cable may regret her decision.

Painful memory for me
CrimeDrama114 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Years ago, I was working as a blackjack dealer in high stakes during the day shift at a casino 90 miles north of Minneapolis/St. Paul and my table was dead. We had two TVs facing the pit and breaking news came in regarding the collapse of the I-35 bridge in Minneapolis/St. Paul. It was unbelievable. That was the topic of conversation for EVERYONE the rest of the day. How is a bridge collapse not mentioned for so long in this episode? Cable's character only existing the first two seasons is a painful reminder of Sasha Alexander's character (Caitlyn Todd) on NCIS being killed off in the season 2 finale. Both character's were eliminated in a confusing manner creating black eyes for both shows. I am still shaking my head. I now avoid episodes of NCIS that include Ziva David. She replaced Caitlyn Todd and her constant awkwardness in American culture was ridiculous. Criminal Minds replacing Jason Gideon with David Rossi in season 3 was also a step down. Not sure if the issue is with the actors or the producers - or something else. I think Michael Weatherly is better on Bull then he ever was on NCIS. Ugh.
