When Grand Duke Sergei is assassinated, a bundle of dynamite sticks falls on the floor of the carriage, and Sergei has enough time to curse and try to extinguish the fuse. As the carriage explodes, his wife picks up a torn arm with a ring as the horses and driver lie dead. In reality, the assassin used a nitroglycerin bomb, which exploded on impact, directly on Sergei's lap. His driver, badly burnt, died in the hospital three days later. Sergei's hands, with rings still on the fingers, were found months later on the roof of a nearby building.
After the assassination of Sergei Alexandrovich, Kalyayev is executed by firing squad. He was actually hanged.
