As is standard whenever a new season rolls around, Respawn has taken the opportunity afforded by the tri-monthly refresh to make some much-needed changes to some of Apex Legends‘ underperforming characters.
The theme this time around, it seems, is the Scout class in general which, according to the developer, has fallen to the wayside somewhat as of late. A series of extensive adjustments to Pathfinder, Bloodhound and Crypto are par for the course this time around, then, but will they be enough to nudge any of the trio up existing tier lists? Given how long it takes for a new meta to be established following sizable updates such as these, it’s far too soon to make a decisive judgement, though on paper, at least, the tweaks certainly look promising.
Of the three, Pathfinder has received the smallest number of changes, with Respawn admitting that, in light of giving every Scout-based character access to beacons,...

Some strange events appear to be unfolding in Apex Legends right now, suggesting that Season 6 of the battle royale could be fast approaching.
Assuming Respawn Entertainment keeps to its reliable schedule, the successor to Fortune’s Favor should go live sometime in August, bringing with it yet another new playable character and adjustments to the existing meta. The injection of new blood alone is often enough to cause an upset to established strategies, of course, though many fans are hoping that a rework to some of Apex‘s existing – and most underplayed – combatants such as Crypto could be in the works. Mirage, for example, has benefitted massively from his own revamp in Season 5, so we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for more.
As for other potential new content, the conclusion to Apex‘s first-ever story-driven questline, Broken Ghost, heavily implies that players could be headed back into the stars...

For as memorable as it was, I honestly thought Destroy All Humans! stuck around longer than it did. It felt like a staple of the sixth generation of consoles, and while I wasn’t too familiar with it, I assumed there were a few seventh-gen entries as well. Alas, the series only put out four entries across the two generations before going into deep hibernation. The memorable premise of the series perhaps explains why Thq Nordic decided to reboot the series with the aptly-titled Destroy All Humans! Fans have been waiting, and all developer Black Forest Games needed to do was deliver upon those expectations.
Set in the idealistic world of 1950’s America, Destroy All Humans! explores what would have happened in the event of an alien invasion. Cryptosporidium-137 is a member of the Furon species of extraterrestrials. A dangerous and crafty bunch, the Furons only really end up in...

Respawn Entertainment may have already shot down any hopes players had of Apex Legends getting more character reworks anytime soon, but that doesn’t it’s avoiding making changes altogether. As part of the battle royale’s upcoming Lost Treasures Collection event, in fact, the developer intends to deploy a huge number of adjustments for problem characters, paying particular attention to those currently considered to be underperforming.
Top of that list are Lifeline, Octane and Crypto. All three have struggled to keep pace with top-tier picks such as Gibraltar, Wraith and Wattson – a growing disparity that could finally be at an end if recently revealed patch notes prove to make as big of an impact on the metagame as promised. Achieving perfect balance is little more than a pipe dream, of course, but the following tweaks are sure to be a move in the right direction. Check them out for yourselves below.

Now that Apex Legends fans have had a few weeks to explore most of what Season 5 currently has to offer (there’s always more on the way), attentions have started pivoting towards the overall gameplay experience. As always, the metagame – particularly in reference to how well each Legend is generally performing – has come under scrutiny as of late, with players eagerly putting forward their own ideas for how Respawn can further level the playing field, so to speak.
The most popular suggestion by a country mile, it seems, is for the developer to continue rolling out complete character reworks as it did for Mirage with Fortune’s Favor. While he still lives up to his nickname, the Holographic Trickster now plays remarkably differently following his overhaul, thanks mainly to the replacement and/or improvement of his diversionary abilities.

Keen to try something different this time around, Respawn’s latest experimental playlist does away with random weapon and item spawns and replaces them instead with static loot pools as well as brand new types of equipment. Apex Legends fans hankering for some locational diversity in their favourite battle royale are in for a treat very soon.
Yesterday, Respawn Entertainment confirmed via social media that original map Kings Canyon will once again be open for business, but only for a limited time. Access to the battleground will be granted later today and continue to be available up until next week, February 24th, but why the incredibly tight window of availability? Who knows, though the extremely brief period will undoubtedly contribute to elevated server traffic over the coming weekend.

New files found within this week’s Apex Legends update appear to have leaked the game’s next character ahead of schedule.
Punctual as always, prolific data miner That1MiningGuy has wasted no time in pulling apart this week’s patch which, besides adding the battle royale’s massive Grand Soirée event (more on that over here), seems to be laying the groundwork for future seasons. As of writing, Season 3 – which introduced Crypto and new map World’s Edge – is just over three months old, meaning, should Respawn be following the same format as last year, Season 4 should be right around the corner. We have no way of knowing, of course, if the developer plans to increase the size of Apex‘s roster yet again with Metldown’s successor, but judging by today’s developments, that’s looking incredibly likely.

Developer Respawn has been churning out in-game events at a dizzying pace ever since Season 3 commenced and that, combined with new map World’s Edge and hero Crypto, has provided more than enough content to keep satisfaction levels high.
But is the current lull period simply the calm before the storm? According to prominent Apex leaker That1MiningGuy, there’s a good chance that the studio intends to capitalize on frenzied spending habits by releasing a new event to coincide with Black Friday.
Check out evidence supporting as such below:

The next limited-time event for Apex Legends is due to kick off later today and Respawn has dropped a new trailer to celebrate.
Similar to the somewhat controversial Iron Crown campaign held earlier this year, Fight or Fright is what the developer is dubbing a ‘Collection’ event. The archetype is one of three different formats that Apex players have been regularly receiving over the last several months and boasts a wealth of new cosmetics; some earned, others purchased. Furthermore, obtaining every new suitably-themed Halloween costume for each hero is a prerequisite to unlocking a brand new Heirloom item for Lifeline.
Speaking of all things spooky, however, you can check out the all-new trick or treat outfits headed your way in just a few hours via the aforementioned trailer below:

Is Apex Legends Season 3 finally going to buck the trend of only one new character arriving every three months?
Nobody but Respawn knows the answer to that question, though recent leaks seem to heavily imply that to be the case. As per a document provided to seasoned Apex data miner That1MiningGuy by an individual who recently visited the studio, it appears that several new heroes are currently in varying stages of development for the battle royale.

Apex Legends Season 3 is out next week and to celebrate, Respawn has unleashed its official launch trailer. As has been the case in the past with big content releases, today’s video adopts a slick cel-shaded aesthetic and features the entire ensemble of heroes from the wise-cracking Mirage to newcomer Crypto. Oh, and it’s probably worth mentioning too, that finally, following a fortnight of hints, leaks and teasers, a brand new map for the battle royale has finally been revealed. Before we dive in and unpack everything showcased though, do yourselves a favor and check out the sublimely-animated cinematic above.

Say what you want about Respawn’s handling of Apex Legends, but the developer sure does know how to drum up hype. Next week, players will wave farewell to Season 2 and welcome its replacement, Season 3: Meltdown. As for what the refresh will bring with it, confirmed features are exactly as one would expect. Ranked matchmaking improvements, a new weapon, Battle Pass and, of course, roster addition, are par for the course, though it’s the last item on that list that’s whipped fans into a frenzy of excitement.
Computer hacker Crypto was first introduced to Apex back when Season 2 first launched as the individual responsible for letting the gargantuan Leviathans bust into Kings Canyon and run amok. Since then, Respawn has been indulging in teasing fans with a myriad of in-game Easter eggs, events and other tidbits. That campaign continues today over on the official Apex Legends Twitter page,...

Apex Legends is well on its way to enjoying much success as we head into the final stretch of 2019, but as fans will know, that hasn’t always been the case.
Respawn’s battle royale title saw an explosive burst of initial popularity upon launch, but shortly after, the game started hemorrhaging players due to numerous issues that were simply too hard to ignore. Bugs, performance quirks, a serious lack of content and more all threatened to derail the shooter before it even had a chance to really establish itself.
But thankfully, Respawn was able to turn things around. The arrival of Season 2: Battle Charge back in the summer went a long way to helping Apex Legends achieve a much-needed course correction and ever since, folks have been eager to find out what lies ahead. With Apex Legends Season 3 just around the corner, fans of the battle royale can feel the winds of change slowly sweeping into Kings Canyon. A refreshed Battle Pass, sandbox changes and a wealth of new customization options are part and parcel for such highly-anticipated occasions, as too, is the addition of a brand new character. While Respawn has yet to confirm who (or what) that new roster addition will be, the overwhelming favourite is Crypto.
The elusive computer hacker has been teased for release ever since Season 2 began, with various events and Easter eggs pointing to the hero’s imminent arrival. The most recent of these occurred over the weekend at Apex Legends‘ preseason invitational tournament but despite the onslaught of hints and references, players have yet to spot Crypto in-game. Who is the frontrunner to fill Apex Legends‘ next character slot? Will it be the mysterious Revenant? Perhaps Titanfall 2‘s Blisk is next in line? Both popular and high profile candidates, for sure, but both trail a good distance behind Crypto. As of now, the enigmatic computer hacker and technology expert is the favourite to follow Wattson’s footsteps into Kings Canyon, but when will that be? Judging by leaked images taken at a GameStop conference last week, the newcomer’s visual design has been finalized, suggesting that he’s far along in the development process.
At the earliest, then, fans should expect Crypto to arrive during Season 2, though precedent tells us that such an Eta is perhaps being a little too optimistic. So far, Respawn has stuck rigidly to its schedule of releasing one new hero per season, meaning sometime in October is likely a more accurate guesstimate.

Crypto is the next hero to join the Apex Legends roster. Here's what we know about him:
A new Apex Legends trailer confirms that Crypto will be the battle royale title's next playable hero.
As previously suspected, Crypto is a hacker who seemingly utilizes some kind of drones to track and defeat enemies. He seems to have stumbled upon some kind of sensitive piece of lore related to the Apex Legends universe, and that has forced him to go on the run and apparently join the competition
Reddit user Teves3D previously shared images from a GameStop conference held in Nashville which showcased a previously unconfirmed character seemingly named Crypto. Interestingly, the official trailer for Apex Legends Season 2 already hinted at this character, so that leak really only verified what most of the game's players previously suspected. Crypto has also already been spotted hanging out in one of Apex Legends drop zones.

June 18th is shaping up to be a killer day for genre fans, as two of my favorite movies of 2019 are making their way home: Jordan Peele’s Us and Lords of Chaos (on DVD) from Jonas Åkerlund. Kino Lorber is showing Chan-wook Park some love this week with their Blu-ray release of Thirst, and Scream Factory has put together the impressive-looking Universal Horror Collection: Volume 1 set as well.
Other home entertainment releases for this Tuesday include Under the Silver Lake, The Monolith Monsters, Crypto, The Nightmare Gallery, Derangement, and Disappearance.
Lords of Chaos
The story of True Norwegian Black Metal and its most notorious practitioners: a group of young men with a flair for publicity, church-burning and murder: Mayhem. Oslo, 1987. Seventeen-year-old Euronymous is determined to escape his idyllic Scandinavian hometown and create "true Norwegian black metal" with his band, Mayhem. He's joined by equally fanatical youths - Dead and Varg.

"These people are dangerous!" "I warned you..." Lionsgate has just released an official trailer for a "cyber-thriller" set in the high stakes world of blockchain technology titled Crypto, from director John Stalberg Jr. (High School). It didn't take long for someone to make a film involving blockchain, it's the big technology buzzword right now and everyone wants in on it - so why not write a plot involving it. Crypto is about a Wall Street banker who connects a small-town art gallery to a global conspiracy, putting his own family in grave danger. Starring Beau Knapp as the banker, with Kurt Russell, Liam Hemsworth, Alexis Bledel, Vincent Kartheiser, Jill Hennessy, Malaya Rivera Drew, and Gabe Fazio. Surprise, surprise, this looks pretty awful. It's all bark and no bite, with such a contrived and unoriginal plot. Not looking any good. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for John Stalberg Jr.'s Crypto,...

Hollywood loves making films about new technology – A couple of years after a tech innovation or trend first appears, the film industry jumps on the bandwagon and makes a slew of movies about it.
Although the science fiction genre explored futuristic technologies as far back as Fritz Lang’s Metropolis (1927), the use of real-life modern tech as a major theme in film really began in the 1960’s. James Bond’s pager in From Russia with Love (1963) is surely the first time a mobile communications device appeared on the silver screen. By the 1980’s, computers were the big tech theme. Films like War Games (1983), Electric Dreams (1984) and Weird Science (1985) promised a future where computers would help us create the perfect mate and then burn us to a crisp.
