The Consequences of the Keys
revchristodd16 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
We are seeing the ever-widening ripples of Kinsey killing her fear, leading to her almost repeating the infamous incident involving her father's friends. Meanwhile Tyler is suffering the toll of trying to protect his family from the temptations of the keys. The keys are rather like the rings in the Lord of the Rings: powerful and dangerous to the souls of those who have them.

They're kids, people.

I honestly don't get these reviews about being upset Kinsey told her friends. What the eff do you think a teenager is going to do but tell their friends? In what world are you living in where a teenager doesn't show off their cool new gadget.

Let's tell random strangers I have magical powers?

Warning: Spoilers
Kinsey makes some really stupid out of character decisions with the music box. Real shame as the series started off well and had a lot of promise, then just got stupid fast.

This one was rough

Warning: Spoilers
Just a lot of bad decisions that make zero sense. Kenzie and Tyler doing the same dance after I thought we were making progress. I know it's following a comic, which I haven't read, but this made for a frustrating view.

Slowly falling apart

Started out well. Each episode slowly gets worse and the characters become less appealing. Disappointed.

I really wanted to like it!
Just-A-Girl-149 August 2020
I'm binge watching the first season and I'm struggling with it. I really want to like this show but many of the characters behaviour just doesn't make sense. The only one acting in a believable way is Bode.

It seems to me that if you discover magical keys you would put all the time you've got in trying to understand how they work and why. Especially since they know they are also in danger. The first time they used they keys almost got their mother killed and Bode told them about the well lady. Instead we watch them working on their relationships with their friends and doing after school activities. The only character trying to understand what's going on and come up with a plan to protect the family is Bode. The two older siblings (who should act more responsibility than Bode) are doing idiotic things like taking the keys to school or telling other people about them or using them for their own stupid advantage. To be honest, it's starting to become too annoying to watch! It makes me feel like the show is meant for kids. Why aren't they trying to understand what's going on? Why am I watching them in school with their friends? The show should focus on the keys, on the history of their family and on the house. I want to know what happened to their dad. I don't give a crap about their stupid crashes or about who is more popular at their school!

Bode discovered a key that made it possible for him to talk to his great great great grandfather. Why aren't they talking to him? Why aren't they asking him questions? I understand that they are teenagers and teenagers are not always smart but these kids lost their father. One would expect them to be a bit more mature.

I don't know how much more of it I can take. This episode made me want to stop watching the show. It's a shame because the story is interesting and the cast is good. The actors seems to do a good job but the writing should get much MUCH better! As I explained, the characters behaviour doesn't make sense, there's way too much focus on the wrong things and also the dialogue is not so good.

Such a shame! :(

Hard to recognize Kinsey in this episode
anonrob-488476 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Overall, this has been a fun series so far and I am enjoying it. Then we get into this episode and Kinsey has transformed well beyond someone without fear, and into a teenage brat with malice for anyone who disagrees or crosses her.

What happened exactly? Well, Kinsey is a shy teenage girl who has issues with her mother, but has never shown any aggressive or mean spirited actions. In a previous episode she removes her fear, which makes her more direct and an interesting turn of events.

Then she rips into her brother when he says to show restraint, he took advantage of one of the keys but the meaning of his words make sense, and then stupidly brings the music box they argue over to school and in front of Scot and practically the whole lunchroom begins to use it. She then even explains it to the boys around her how it works, letting Gabe repeatedly humiliate Eden.

You have a mysterious woman causing fires in your kitchen and kidnapping your younger brother and now she's just being a brat taking vengeance in public? Who the hell is this character? Even with the lack of fear, this isn't just brash, it is horribly irresponsible. I felt it did not match her at all, and immediately lowered my appreciation of the episode, and the show.
