Exclusive: UTA has signed actor and writer John Owen Lowe for representation in all areas, Deadline has learned.
Lowe recently co-created, wrote, starred in and executive produced the Netflix comedy series Unstable, alongside his father Rob Lowe and Victor Fresco. The series is loosely inspired by his relationship on social media with his dad. Season 2 of Unstable premiered on Aug. 1.
Lowe recently starred in and produced the thriller Grace Point for director Rory Karpf. The film marked his debut as a lead star in a feature film. Grace Point follows a young man faced with addiction who gets lost in the woods on his way to a remote drug rehab center and wrestles with the locals as well as his own personal demons. As a producer, Lowe helped shape the character based on his personal experiences. The movie premiered at the 2022 Santa Barbara Film Festival.

“Law & Order” fans, you have Rob Lowe to thank for the entire franchise. As does Dick Wolf’s bank account. At least, Lowe says this, with his tongue a bit in cheek (but also with some accuracy). As the star of Fox’s “9-1-1: Lone Star” and Netflix’s “Unstable” recently told Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast, Lowe starred in Wolf’s 1988 feature flop “Masquerade.” It was just the kind of movie disappointment that would have sent Wolf back to TV — and two years later, “Law & Order” premiered. “I remember him saying to me how frustrated he was in the movie business, that he was going to write a pilot,” Lowe said. “And he wrote ‘Law and Order.’ And the rest is history. You’re welcome. Yeah, I’m happy to provide the bomb that powers your rise to dominance.”

“It was a lot of highs and Lowes,” John Owen Lowe said of working with his famous father, Rob Lowe, on Netflix’s latest comedy “Unstable.”
At the show’s premiere on Thursday night in Hollywood, the father-son duo spoke with Variety about their unique dynamic — and how its portrayal on the show isn’t so different from real life.
John Owen plays Jackson, the son of Ellis Dragon (Rob Lowe) in the workplace comedy. Ellis is a quirky biotech genius who finds out he may lose his job when he spirals following the death of his wife. With the company at risk of imploding, his employees seek out the one source they feel can help him at this time: his son.
The Lowes have worked together before. John Owen served as a writer for multiple seasons of Fox’s “9-1-1: Lone Star,” which his father stars in. They also starred in “The Grinder,...

Christmas is quickly approaching, with Netflix having released its yearly selection of original festive romantic comedies.
Over the last few years we’ve seen the streaming service take inspiration from the likes of Hallmark and Lifetime to produce cookie-cutter Christmas romcoms guaranteed to numb your mind like one too many mulled wines.
Revolutionary these films are not, but boy, do they hit the spot during the festive season. With titles like The Princess Switch, The Knight Before Christmas and A Castle for Christmas on offer, audiences have learnt that no plot is too ludicrous for a Netflix Christmas romcom. The more time travel, magic, döppelgangers and fictional European royalty on offer, the better.
With that in mind, I’m taking a look at Netflix’s in-house Christmas romcoms and ranking them based on just how ridiculous they are. This list has also been updated for 2022, which means this is the...

Netflix is giving Hallmark a run for their money with a ton of cute original Christmas movies, but did you know they're all connected? That's right - Netflix is getting in on the connected-universes craze with their very own Netflix Christmas movie shared universe! Here's exactly how all of your favorites fit together.
There are two different overarching ways that these movies are connected: on-screen cameos and full-fledged name-dropping. The former category is how it all began. In the 2018 movie The Holiday Calendar, the creative team needed to show a movie playing on a screen within the movie itself. "It felt like a natural fit to show one of our other films available on Netflix," said Amanda Phillips Atkins, EVP at production company Mpca. As a result, a scene from 2017's The Christmas Inheritance pops up on a TV. The Christmas Inheritance also shows up on a TV in The Princess Switch,...

Winter is coming this January!
If you think the Austin crew is exempt from the thrilling, edge of your seat, and action-packed natural disasters and craziness, then you are wrong.
The 9-1-1 spinoff will kickstart an all-new season with a bone-chilling (and we mean that literally) event that is unlike anything many of them have seen.
An ice storm is hitting Texas, and the entire state will devolve into chaos against an unfamiliar element.
If you think this is outlandish, perhaps you recall the Winter Storm of 2021 that took place in February. It left thousands of Texans without power, killed an estimated 702 people in the Lone Star state alone, and amassed $22.5 billion in damages.
The record-breaking winter storm likely inspired this icy premiere event, and there is no shortage of things the show can explore.
The mere thought of what the series can cover and incorporate is enough to...

This week, Netflix confirmed the long-held fan theory that there’s in fact a Christmas Cinematic Universe exclusively on the streaming service, connecting A Christmas Prince, The Princess Switch, The Holiday Calendar, The Knight Before Christmas, Christmas Inheritance and Holiday in the Wild. No offense to any of the cast and crew members who no doubt worked very hard on all of those respective titles, but for the most part, they’re absolute garbage.
Instead, the brightest jewel in Netflix’s festive crown is without a doubt The Christmas Chronicles, starring Kurt Russell as possibly the most twinkly-eyed Santa Claus that’s ever been seen in live-action. The first movie was viewed over 20 million times in a week when it arrived two years ago, and the recently released sequel is poised to do even better and play like gangbusters over the holiday season.

Christmas is a stressful time of year for many people.
There are gifts to buy, family to see, and cars to dig out of the snow. Thankfully, the holiday cheer makes up for a lot of it. And when holiday cheer can’t get you all the way there, there are Christmas movies to make up the rest.
Netflix has the deepest roster of Christmas movies of all the major streaming options. So we’ve compiled a list of the best Christmas movies available on Netflix.
Be sure to point out any we’ve missed!
Black Mirror: White Christmas
Those looking for Christmas cheer won’t find it here. Black Mirror isn’t necessarily known for its happy endings and it’s 2014 Christmas special, “White Christmas” is no different.
Still, there is an audience out there that definitely wants this level of Scroogery. Plus it stars Jon Hamm! “White Christmas” follows three seemingly disparate stories.

Hallmark and Lifetime may be the longtime players in the TV holiday movie game, but relative newbie Netflix has a festive boast to make about its own Christmas content: “Around half” of Netflix subscribers “watched at least one” of the streaming service’s original holiday films during the 2019 holiday season and Netflix’s holiday titles are streamed in all 190 countries where the platform is available, a spokesperson for the streaming service tells TheWrap.
For context, Netflix said it had reached 167 million subscribers globally at the end of 2019, so this stat would apply to almost 50% of those accounts. Reminder: Netflix counts a “view” as when someone watches a selected title for at least two minutes.
Netflix doesn’t have nearly as many original holiday movies under its belt as Hallmark or Lifetime but its library is growing each year, and it’s already known for a few “franchises,” like its beloved “A Christmas Prince” trilogy.

One of the fun things about watching live programming is seeing actors break character in response to something that happens during the performance. And an absolutely delightful example of this came during the latest episode of “SNL” when host Adele kept corpsing at cast member Kate McKinnon’s jokes during a very weird late-hour sketch.
The sketch, which appears to be a parody of the pop culture convention of white women who go on international journeys of sexual discovery after heartbreaks — like “Eat, Pray, Love” or the 2019 romantic comedy “Holiday in the Wild” — featured McKinnon and Adele as recently divorced women in a purported Africa tourism commercial. But as the sketch went on, it was obvious the primary selling point of the tourism was the chance to hook up with extremely hot guys in Africa.
Basically, Adele and McKinnon would list off the attractions that are awaiting people who visit the second largest continent,...

Netflix will have another Christmas rom-com on deck during the holidays.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Brooke Shields and Cary Elwes will be spreading some holiday cheer from Scotland.
The duo will lead A Castle for Christmas, which follows an American author, Sophie (Shields), who makes her way to Scotland, and immediately falls in love with a castle.
Yes, really.
Unfortunately, the owner, a Scottish Duke named Myles (Elwes), does not want to sell to a foreigner.
The duo butt heads as they try to come to some sort of resolution, but they "just may find more than they bargained for."
The outlet reports Mary Lambert, who brought Pet Sematary and The In Crowd to viewers, will direct the holiday flick.
More exciting is that the movie will be filmed on location in Scotland. As a Scotsman myself, I'm excited to see which locations are used, and how the country is portrayed.

The global craze for all things Tiger King is dying down a bit, but the story of Joseph Maldonado-Passage – aka Joe Exotic – is still a hot property. Ever since the documentary hit it big, there’s been rumors of many film adaptations being in the works. But it looks like American Horror Story and Feud creator Ryan Murphy is set to be first out of the gate.
The Production Weekly blog releases a weekly rundown of what’s in development and the latest list has added “Untitled Joe Exotic Project.” Murphy, whose new Netflix series Hollywood covers the lives of several troubled stars of the golden age, is set to helm the movie, which is described thusly:

Rob Lowe has seemingly just earned bragging rights over one of the biggest directors in Hollywood!
The actor, 55, spoke to reporters at the Television Critics Association while promoting his Fox show 911: Lone Star where he claimed his Netflix Christmas film, Holiday in the Wild, surpassed Martin Scorsese‘s The Irishman in terms of viewership.
When asked about filming locations, Lowe said he doesn’t “care where I’m working as long as it’s with people I like, people I like to work with and are telling good stories.”

Rob Lowe said that his Netflix film, “Holiday in the Wild,” drew more viewers to the streaming platform than Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-contender “The Irishman.”
“I just did a movie for Netflix that was the number one movie that they had,” Lowe said Monday during the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, California, when he was asked if he preferred working on streaming shows instead of network TV. “A little stupid Christmas elephant movie and it beat — take that Martin Scorsese.”
Lowe did not give any hard numbers on that — TheWrap has asked Netflix to verify Lowe’s claim — but “The Irishman,” Scorsese’s three-hour mob epic, drew 13.2 million viewers in its first five days, according to Nielsen. That average-minute audience is more than “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie” (8.2 million) and less than “Bird Box” (16.9 million).

Netflix, Amazon and co are falling over themselves to provide festive viewing for everyone. Here are some top picks
What to watch at Christmas: an annual point of much debate, deliberation and compromise, usually proven for naught when most of the family falls into a prosecco-laced stupor about 15 minutes into the chosen option. The advent of streaming hasn’t exactly made this process any easier, but the sheer wealth of options at least slightly reduces the possibility of everyone capitulating to the one senior relative stubbornly set on watching the Queen’s speech.
Netflix, as you would expect, has made an aggressive play to be the family Christmas channel of choice. From November on, they release a steady stream of original festive-themed films, many with largely interchangeable C-word titles: this year’s offerings include Home for Christmas, A Family Reunion Christmas and A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby. When Hallmark Channel contacted American Cinema Intl. president Chevonne O’Shaughnessy about producing a movie set in the Amish community, she immediately sent an outline for one. Aci had already produced three Amish-themed movies for other outlets, so she figured she’d quickly be brought on board.
But O’Shaughnessy says Hallmark didn’t call her back. And she couldn’t figure out why — but then started watching the channel. After going on a Hallmark movie binge, “all of a sudden it hit me,” she says. “I didn’t have a dog. So I added a dog. And I got a call back. It was that simple.”

Netflix is stealing Thanksgiving’s thunder this week by filling you with the Christmas spirit a little early with Thursday’s debut of the new Dennis Quaid-led holiday series, “Merry Happy Whatever.” Yes, you read that right, a Christmas TV series.
While the streaming service has moved into the holiday movie genre over the last few years with its “A Christmas Prince” franchise and films like “The Knight Before Christmas” “Holiday in the Wild,” they’ve never done a scripted holiday-themed show before. (Competition series like “Nailed It! Holiday” and “The Great British Baking Show: Holidays” don’t count here.)
So why did creator Tucker Cawley decide to write a Christmas series and not add to the growing list of Christmas films Netflix has to offer?

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Netflix’s “The Knight Before Christmas.”)
Netflix launched its latest original Christmas movie, “The Knight Before Christmas” on Thursday, one of six it has set to roll out this holiday season. This film, starring Vanessa Hudgens and Josh Whitehouse, is connected to those others — and the streaming services season flicks from previous years — with little shout-outs.
Eagle-eyed viewers probably noticed that Sir Cole (Whitehouse) is seen watching “Holiday in the Wild” — one of Netflix’s 2019 offerings, starring Kristin Davis and Rob Lowe — and Brooke’s (Vanessa Hudgens) parents brought her a Christmas ornament from Aldovia — the fictional country where the “A Christmas Prince” franchise takes place — when she was a child.
Hudgens says these Easter eggs are what brings “The Knight Before Christmas” into the Netflix Holiday Movie Universe (we’re dubbing it the Nhwu right now).

ITV has canceled Rob Lowe’s fish out of water British cop drama Wild Bill after just one season.
The West Wing star, who currently features in Netflix film Holiday In The Wild, played high-flying U.S. cop Bill Hixon, who was appointed Chief Constable of the East Lincolnshire Police Force in the UK.
But the series failed to arrest a huge audience, averaging just 3.7 million viewers, and it was not picked up by a big player in the U.S. despite Lowe suggesting that Netflix or Hulu could come in for the show.
Wild Bill was produced by 42, MultiStory Media and Anonymous Content. The show was created by The Hunted writer David Griffiths, before Awake creator Kyle Killen came on board with Silent Witness writers Dudi Appleton and Jim Keeble. Lowe acted as an executive producer.

What's the cutest father-son pairing in Hollywood, you ask? Though they have some fierce competition, there's no doubt that Rob Lowe and the younger of his two sons, John Owen Lowe, are major father-son relationship goals. As well as inheriting dreamy blue eyes from his father, John Owen also inherited a passion for acting. He made his big debut in The Lowe Files - where he, his dad, and his brother Matthew explored unsolved mysterious together - and he even had a guest role on Fox's The Grinder (which Rob starred in) as Joel Zadak. His latest project with Rob is Netflix's Holiday in the Wild, and if the new Christmas flick doesn't make you fall in love with this father-son duo, then maybe these pics of Rob and John Owen Lowe together will.

Exclusive: Sex and the City alum Kristin Davis, Greer Grammer, and Dermot Mulroney are set to star in Grace, an indie thriller written and directed by Anna Elizabeth James. Davis and Grammer are also producers on the film which starts shooting in New Mexico next month.
The plot centers on a bestselling female novelist (Davis) who is suffering from writer’s block and hires an innocent young woman (Grammer) to watch over her twin children. As the novelist dangerously indulges in her new best-seller, the line between the life she’s writing about and the one she’s actually living becomes blurred. Mulroney will play Davis’ husband.
Davis, repped by Atlas Artists and Buchwald, will next star in the Netflix original film Holiday in the Wild which premieres November 1. Repped by Innovative Artists and Luber Roklin, Grammer (daughter of Kelsey Grammer) is best known for MTV’s Awkward series. Dermot,...

The coming months are going to be fascinating ones for Netflix, as the perennial streaming giant has to compete with Disney Plus and Apple TV+. As usual, though, the company’s releasing some new original content next month while also introducing a few Christmas titles into the mix ahead of December.
Some highlights for November include the third season of The Crown, and the streaming premiere of Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman. In addition, we’re getting new episodes of animated hits such as She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, and the second installment of the cult British series The End of the F***king World.
At present, though, there doesn’t seem to be a large number of recent movie additions outside of Netflix originals, perhaps owing to the service’s ongoing commitment to its own content in the face of Apple TV+ launching on November 1st and Disney...

Get ready for a holiday adventure, because Netflix has another cheesy rom-com set abroad, and this time we're heading to Africa. Holiday in the Wild follows New York housewife Kate Conrad (Kristin Davis), who books an extravagant second honeymoon in Zambia with her workaholic husband. When her husband ends their marriage before the plane even takes off, Kate decides to carry on with a solo safari (as she damn well should).
Her journey is cut short when her pilot, Derek Holliston (Rob Lowe), takes her on a detour to rescue an orphaned baby elephant and convinces Kate to stay at the wildlife sanctuary through Christmastime. As we can see in the trailer, a new sense of purpose isn't the only thing that Kate finds during her Holiday in the Wild.
Watch the trailer above and then get ready to enjoy Holiday in the Wild when it drops on Nov. 1. In the meantime,...
