Hit and Miss
eve_dolluk10 September 2019
These are all individual stories as part of the Moniker " Into the Dark "

Some for me are good Some not so good and others average.

Overall the acting is solid and the cinematography is again solid but nothing outstanding, serves its purpose type stuff.

Episode I liked Ep2, Ep4,Ep7, Ep10 Average Ep5, Ep6, Ep8, Ep11 Didn't like Ep1, Ep3, Ep9

Overall not bad, a bit lightweight but of some interest with a few I was really drawn into.

An anthologic serie with many ups and down
fciocca17 September 2019
HULU's anthologic series is made by short horror movies. Some of them are definetely interesting, while others are very boring and pretty much predictable. There are 12 episodes, usually released close to holiday periods like Christmas or Thanksgiving Day, and that obviously are somewhat related to these festivities.

The pilot was just okay, nohing that hooked me so much. The network should have begin with something more interesting like the "Pooka!" episode that, at least for me, was one of the best episode, with an unexpected ending. Most of them contains many clichées and the real good ones are a few. Some topics are interesting but too much present, like for example the gender discrimination and the physical and mental abuse.

Being an anthologic serie, you don't have to watch the complete season (I did it because I was watching it, while it was aired), so I will simply tell which are for me the best episodes: "Flesh and Blood", "Pooka!"

The acting was almost always good and I was happy to see in the cast actors like Carly Chaikin (Mr. Robot), or Jimmi Simpson. I was also glad to discover new actors like Hayes MacArthur and Martha Higareda.

Into The Dark is a good product and considering the whole package, I have decided to give 7 stars out of 10. I am a little bit sorry that was not so popular and I really hope that HULU will eventually renew the serie with new stories. If you are an horror fan, I suggest to give it a shot.

Deja vu anyone?
gc-173655 October 2018
If you're watching this first episode and are into all things horror you are probably thinking haven't I seen this already Well the answer is yes! This is almost the exact same story that occupied a segment from Patient Seven (same segment writer) The story is a bit more fleshed out and a bit bloodier but still no excuse to do the same thing again in less than 2 years for a horror series - there are plenty of horror writers out there looking for a break without recycling stuff (well I supposes it works for Hollywood) That said it was watchable - again - as it was slightly better than the short and some nice deaths

Lower rating has I had only recently seen Patient Seven

Edit July 2020 - upgrading my score from 3 to 5 after part way thru season 2 There's some real turkeys in the show but some passable horror stories especially in season 2 - A Nasty Piece of Work was a pleasant surprise

Horror twist on Black Mirror.
daropaz17 November 2019
And like in the Black Mirror anthology there are some episodes down under 4, but the most out of the 14 episodes ive watched was a good 8score. Storrys like: -They come knocking -Uncanny Anny -Treehouse Just 2 name some of the best. They will frighten you just as much as they make you think.

But am wondering,,, about the Ses in here? Because on Viaplay its 13 episodes in ses 1. With Uncanny Anny as last episode. But in here that is the first episode on season 2? Why is it like that? I saw that episode before Ses 02 even had begun.

Worth watching Culture Shock
himynameisart14 July 2019
Lots of these episodes/films range from awful to mediocre. Culture Shock is probably the best one

Better than expected
bangel33229 October 2018
I actually really enjoyed this episode. I was actually expecting something a little darker and was pleasantly surprised by the comedy element of it. Tom Bateman was fabulous playing the hitman, really good job. The three 'heroes' were really funny, I found myself laughing quite a lot. Having said that, I'm hoping that not all of the episodes are going to be comedic. I am expecting the next one to be downright scary. Watch this space.

Predictable as Ever
wvwriter5 October 2018
There are a few decent qualities in this anthology's first episode, but in the end, it's as bland and predictable as any other story of this variety with an added stinger of providing no explanation for the weak "surprise" ending. Hulu never seems to fail to disappoint with its originals.

Into the dark. First year.
edicionccq16 November 2019
This show is great. Every episode starts a little bit boring because it tries to set the characters and how every episode is connected to the holiday of the month. Some episodes are not as good as they could be like Treehouse (1x06), School Spirit (1x11) and Pooka! (1x03). But some of them are a must watch like Pure (1x12), Flesh & Blood (1x02), All That we destroy (1x08) and my personal favorites are New Year, New You (1x04), The Body (1x01) and Down (1x05). Give it a try to some episodes. They're good to kill some time and to watch some horror movies of the holiday you're in.

Average at Best
bautistawill-4767315 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Honestly the movie was somewhat enjoyable, a few parts dragged on but nothing extremely excessive. The acting of the movie is fine and the lead role (Tom Bateman) played an excellent hitman. The killing scenes were pretty good too, not too over the top but not too simple either. What ruined most of the movie was in the last minute of the movie with the girl named Maggie (Rebecca Rittenhouse). She was assumed dead earlier in the movie but comes back and kills the hitman (assumed dead because he stabbed her) which was a total buzz kill. Why didn't she stay dead? The plotwist was terrible and highly unnecessary in my obvious opinion of course.

Poor
alanjohnpeach5 October 2018
Convoluted, and poor, and derivative. Just a nauseatingly bad script, woeful main man, and so many memetic, unimaginative tropes.

Campy and fun
oliviasandbothe27 November 2019
Too many of the installments in this series have taken an inherently ridiculous premise and tried to turn it into serious horror. This one knows it's silly and leans in. Fast-paced, funny slasher schlock.

GET BETTER ACTORS!
bhamiltonesq3 December 2020
Some of the episodes are actually really good! But it all cones down to the acting. For example "Flesh & Blood" was really good, but had a good actor. "They come knocking" as well as "Nasty piece of work".

But many of them have just terrible storylines coupled with awful acting like: "new year new you", "Down", and "my valentine".

Invest in better actors!!

Disappointing Start
hsergel8 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This is in response to the first episode.

I was very excited to see that Hulu was doing a horror anthology. I thought it'd be like Black Mirror, where each episode is good enough to stand on its own. That each episode would be a different horror sub-genre (slasher, monster, haunting, etc.) If this first episode is any indication...it looks like this experiment has failed miserably.

This could've potentially been funny, but it was just cringeworthy. Most of the time seems to be spent on the lead and the potential love interest exchanging supposedly "deep" conversations about life, the universe, etc. Bad acting, bad plot, bad script.

I can only hope the rest is better.

Has the potential to be so much better
bangel332228 September 2019
It's a pretty average show, and of course some episodes are far superior to others, but this show has such potential to be amazing. One thing I'd suggest for season 2 is to make it more clear as to which holidays they're featuring in each show. Some are very obvious, however certain holidays I'm not familiar with, for example holidays that fall in March, August and September; I have no idea what they are and it just needs to be portrayed better.

Double take
jdaniels-037043 February 2019
Definitely deja vu! The Body is not an original story but however a very close replica of a short story in a movie Patient Seven. I do like this hulu series but however feel some of the episodes are drawn out and somewhat predictable if not a copy. Still the horror and slasher aspects I found enjoyable. I'll be watching the rest but counting down the days.

Awesome and light horror TV show with a twist on the end!
Shaerif6 December 2020
Awesome and light horror TV show with a twist on the end!

I believe it's enjoyable for everyone who likes horror or should I call it light horror as it's not scary, like all the new horror movies those days, it's more thriller than horror.

they didn't do so much horror as some of the episodes if it happens to some people they might have a panic attack for real, but for them when watching this and think about it they might get a bit scared, young ages maybe.

some of the episodes based on short movies and a similar style to the YouTube channel called "DUST" which is the same as light horror as this style of the TV show.

The first season and first episode are inspired by a short movie called the body as they mention with a twist at the end.

They smoke weed in vape in several episodes.

This TV show is great because each episode is now and separate from the other and different story and actually more like a short movie for each episode which is great so you do not have to wait for next episodes not all ending of each episode is satisfied, but some of the episodes have a great and twisted ending that you would never expect.

Horror?
keepk4 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Only watched a few episodes but doesn't seem like it's horror. Especially the first episode, only some gore parts but that's it. I love horror so I thought I would try this out but so far it's a hit and a miss. The treehouse one was definitely a miss. It's supposed to be based off of holiday but what holiday is that episode? Turned that on off within 20 minutes. Down was okay, better than I thought. It reminds me of P2 or whatever that movie was. It was kind of stupid because who yells at their attacker before they get out? Why even have sex? Sure there are people who hook up without knowing each other but still. It was okay, ending was different and not excepted.

I've surely got better things to do
Rickard-606-59271610 October 2018
I'm exactly hallway through this movie, and just said to myself "why the hell am I still watching this?" I like this kind of film, I'm not even all that picky. This .. I don't even know where this muddled, dull, mess of boring characters is trying to go, and I do not care to find out. I'm disappointed at 41 minutes, and have seen too many movies in my life to think this is going anywhere even mildly interesting.

My main issue is
iounu210 August 2022
Look, I like the show. My issue is that everything is looked up on sites like this one, imdb now. On the front of Hulu today shows a movie titled Blood Moon. Go look for it. You'll NEVER find it. That's because it's an episode of I to the Dark. But nowhere on its Hulu details page does it mention into the dark. The only way I found out is by searching one of the actors and tracing it back. Who would purposely do this? Most who look things up first will pass this up like I was about to. Typically the only reason you can't find a movie is because it was made so awfully that it doesn't even have a page on IMDb. It's just strange that so many people put time into something and they make it this hard to care about. Oh well. It's not that great anyway. Into the Dark has many better episodes to choose from.

Not so bad after all
phuul28 January 2022
This series reminds me of a mixture of Black Mirror and AHS, however in very bright colours and the typical cheap horror story setting/directing, which is perfectly fine. However, the first episode was really really bad and rather some sort of slapstick comedy, but I gave it a chance and watched the second episode. I was pleasently surprised.

Loved the idea/story of the third episode and now I am hooked. It's rather horror light so suitable for the faint-hearted too.

Nothing to write home about.
jldivelbiss6 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Hit man runs into a bunch of stupid plot twists while attempting to dispose of a body; He then is forced to kill more people while somehow finding love. The new lovers talk about philosophical, cheesy murder lines that fill up a lot of time.

I can't really say this is horror thriller so much as its a teenage romance drama. Lame, Hulu. So lame.

Flesh & Blood November Episode 2
robfollower26 November 2018
Young Kimberly attempts to overcome her mom's mystery death to fix her agoraphobia. However, she begins to sense she is in harm's way as she lives with her dad.

A character study of two emotionally or mentally disturbed souls . One the Father . Two the Daughter . This 1:33 minute episode is very well acted . The limited characters (Diana Silvers as Kimberly, and Dermot Mulroney as her father) are well casted, and comfortably take command, guiding the story along.. "Flesh & Blood" shows that maybe Into the Dark is worth sticking around a whole year for. "Flesh & Blood" is a more conventional thriller, but its deft execution doesn't let it feel stale. "Flesh & Blood" takes its time setting up its characters and conflict, but once it gets going it doesn't stop. Very good thriller.

More of the same
allenjs752 February 2019
Each of the Into the Dark episodes have resulted in similar disappointment. Most have had decent setup before falling into basic follow through. The exception being New Year, New You. Which was overall very good. The rest forfeited any originality for standard boilerplate. Horror movies or anthologies don't always have to fall into a standard formula. It would be okay to be surprised occassionally. I will continue to watch each month and hope to be pleasantly surprised at some point.
