The much-awaited return of the ghost detectives on the silver screen is finally available on Netflix, and the fans seem to love it. Based on the DC Comics characters of the same name by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner, the Netflix series is created by Steve Yockey and it follows the story of two ghost detectives who decide not to ascent to their afterlives to stay on Earth and investigate the crimes involving the supernatural. Dead Boy Detectives exists in the same universe as Netflix’s hit DC fantasy drama series The Sandman, and while it is different from The Sandman in its story and visuals, the Dead Boy Detectives seem to be connecting with the fans. So, if you loved the charm and supernatural shenanigans in Dead Boy Detectives here are some similar shows you should check out next.

Continuing in the magnificent world created by Neil Gaiman in the DC Universe, the show follows the story of two teenage ghosts who, along with a clairvoyant, work as supernatural detectives. The concept comes straight from the comics and was also created by the Coraline writer.

Review: Last year, the long-anticipated adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s seminal graphic novel saga The Sandman became a hit for Netflix. Some of DC’s best live-action small-screen adaptations were produced on the now-defunct streaming service DC Universe, where some of the renowned showrunners of network showbiz collaborated with the prolific creative minds of comic-book literature to create faithful adaptations of some of the most beloved DC comic series. As some of the fans might surely remember, Doom Patrol turned out to be arguably the best adaptation, and along with a myriad of zany, outlandish characters, the series first introduced the trio lead of Dead Boy Detectives outside the funny pages. The introduction was supposed to be a precursor to the spin-off series of the same name, and the actors portraying their roles in the Doom Patrol cameo were finalized to reprise their roles in the new series back then. This was exciting news for fans, as seeing how well Doom Patrol was adapted on a small screen, the possibility of...

Move over, Sam and Dean Winchester, there are some new supernatural mystery solvers on the scene. The Dead Boy Detectives are taking over the ghost-hunting and demon-hunting duties on Netflix, and they're adding in British accents and the fact that they are dead themselves. Edwin Paine and Charles Rowland are DC comic book characters created by Neil Gaiman, but they have a lot more in common with the Winchesters than meets the eye.
To understand the Netflix take on Dead Boy Detectives, you have to first understand how the show arrived on the streamer in the first place. It was originally intended as a spin-off of Doom Patrol after Sebastian Croft and Ty Tennant portrayed the ghostly sleuthing duo in Season 3. Steve Yockey (Supernatural) was developing the series when Max dropped it because it didn't fit in with new DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran's vision for the DC cinematic universe.

Dead Boy Detectives was initially developed for television by HBO Max in 2021. After a long and winding road of purgatory, the series eventually is reaching Netflix in early 2023. (Please note that this has nothing to do with Netflix licensing Max properties as of late.) The adaptation of DC Comics has a cult following that can tap into every popular young demographic.
Now, every comic book property will continuously develop in the ever-competitive streaming landscape. This makes it more surprising how ordinary, at times, Dead Boy Detectives can be, considering Netflix’s binge model. Dead Boy Detectives is like a purgatory Hardy Boys procedural, with the boys trying to solve a new case weekly.
However, as the series progresses, you see its overall potential. You hope the streaming giant will allow Dead Boy Detectives to achieve that potential.

In theory, Netflix’s Dead Boy Detectives should be a feast for the misery wraiths, faceless creatures who feed on pain and suffering. The ghostly protagonists, Edwin (George Rexstrew) and Charles (Jayden Revri), are both teenagers bullied to death at the same British boarding school seven decades apart. They spend their time finding closure for other lost souls, like a pair of high schoolers cut down in their prime or a family slaughtered by an abusive patriarch. And they’re constantly on the run from the agents of Death, who would condemn Edwin to Hell on a technicality.
Yet the duo only ever encounter one such monster over the eight-episode first season, and perhaps that’s because despite its gloomy-sounding premise, Dead Boy Detectives is the furthest thing from dour. Dark, sure; bittersweet, sometimes. But it’s never less than entertaining, thanks to an appealingly quirky lead cast and a cheeky sense of humor.

"DC's Legends of Tomorrow" is one of the best superhero shows ever made. Even nearly a decade after its premiere on CW, there's still nothing quite like it on TV and certainly nothing that's as willing to break every rule if it means having a cool idea the way this superhero show was. After all, we once made a list running down the 10 most outlandish things to happen on "Legends of Tomorrow" without even mentioning the time the show's heroes met the actual voice actor behind the monster that was chasing them.
That said, arguably the best and wildest moment of the entire show -- one that signified "Legends of Tomorrow" could get away with certain things that no other series could -- came at the end of season 3. The Teen Titans show is one of the most iconic animated offerings from DC. It is in the same league as the studio’s other animated shows such as Batman: The Animated Series and Justice League. Animator Glen Murakami, who also worked on the aforementioned shows, worked on Teen Titans as a showrunner and brought the comic book team to the forefront.
While the Teen Titans began in the ‘60s, the comic book did not gain fame until its ‘80s revival in the form of Marv Wolfman and George Pérez’s The New Teen Titans, by which the show was inspired. Murakami revealed in an interview that DC wanted a do-over from the comics in the show as they were primarily a response to Marvel’s X-Men.

‘Dead Boy Detectives’ is an upcoming supernatural detective comedy-drama TV series developed by Steve Yockey, based on DC Comics characters by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner. While One Piece will be keeping Iñaki Godoy busy for probably the next decade, that didn’t stop DC fandom from fan-casting him into another perfect role. Godoy could easily play Beast Boy, one of the founding members of the Teen Titans. While many fans could connect the actor’s persona with One Piece‘s Luffy, the charming actor could also convince his audience as a shape-changing teen titan. However, one major problem could prevent this fan-casting from becoming a reality.

If Beast Boy were to become a part of James Gunn’s new Dcu, the character may not have a major arc in the universe. However, Iñaki Godoy is already a star playing Luffy, and any downgrade from that will be a gross injustice to his star power.

The search for the next "Suits" has begun! Aaron Korsh's legal drama series gained a whole new lease on life in 2023 thanks to Netflix, becoming the year's most-streamed show and giving USA Network's loyal middle-aged target demographic a reason to fist pump in vindication. The only question now is, what lucky show will follow in its footsteps? Surprisingly, an unlikely candidate has emerged in the form of "Resident Alien," a genre-blending cult favorite that's currently in the process of airing its third season on Syfy.
Anchored by fan-favorite performer and voice actor extraordinaire Alan Tudyk (the man who clucked his way into audiences' hearts as Heihei in "Moana" and wooed his own butt as Clayface in "Harley Quinn: A Very Problematic Valentine's Day Special"), "Resident Alien" has managed to climb its way into Netflix's Top 10 in the U.S. According to the streaming viewership aggregator FlixPatrol, it was...

Following the success of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, their focus is now on the franchise’s next installment—Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. It will follow Miles Morales as he tries to prevent Spot from destroying the multiverse.
With Lord and Miller’s proven track record of success in the animated superhero genre, James Gunn now wants them to helm a Dcu project. What’s more interesting is that fans have come up with some interesting ideas, too.

Paramount+ premiered the werewolf horror series “Wolf Pack” back in January 2023, and TV Line reports tonight that the series has already been cancelled after just one season.
Sarah Michelle Gellar made her return to horror in the series.
TV Line reports, “Last summer’s dual Hollywood strikes were the final nail in Wolf Pack‘s coffin. According to sources, a potential second season would not have been ready for nearly two years after the conclusion of Season 1.”
“Wolf Pack,” written and produced by Jeff Davis, follows a teenage boy and girl whose lives are changed forever when a California wildfire awakens a terrifying supernatural creature and drives it to attack a highway traffic jam beneath the burning hills.
Wounded in the chaos, the boy and girl are inexplicably drawn to each other and to two other teenagers who were adopted sixteen years earlier by a park ranger after another mysterious wildfire.

Universal Pictures has released all three of filmmaker Jordan Peele’s directing efforts to date – Get Out, Us, and Nope – and they’re working with him on his fourth film as well, a project that is, so far, only known as Untitled Fourth Film Directed by Jordan Peele. At one time, Universal had announced that they would be releasing Peele’s fourth film on Wednesday, December 25, 2024… but that plan has since changed. The film has been removed from Universal’s release schedule, and during a recent interview on the Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast Peele confirmed that the change in release plans is due to the strikes that hit Hollywood last year. Peele is still working on the project – and he thinks it could out to be his favorite of the films he has made.

We are all Ian Wright in that we collectively want Quantum Leap Season 2 Episode 7 to provide some resolution to That Kiss.
But delayed gratification is in the cards as Ben and the team have their hands full, keeping Middle Towne, Massachusetts, from lighting its citizens on fire in a drought-induced haze of fear and suspicion.
To be fair, Ben gets kissed himself near the end of this outing, so maybe it's becoming his "Oh Boy" routine.
Keeping in mind that this leap takes Ben beyond the establishment of the United States of America and into colonial Massachusetts, can we all agree that we don't watch this show for historical accuracy?
So, we will Not nitpick the clothes or hairstyles or the when and where certain nursery rhymes originated.
Just enjoy the adventure, friends.

Yes, it has been suggested that the Arrowverse first took flight with Arrow‘s own October 2012 premiere. But truly, it was 14 months later, on Dec. 4, 2013 — when Barry Allen aka the would-be Flash first set foot in Starling City — that TV’s expanded DC universe started to take shape.

Wes Craven's 1991 horror hit "The People Under The Stairs" evades easy description. It's a movie that's at once chaotic, insightful, campy, hilarious, horrifying, and weird as hell. There are images in the movie that are impossible to unsee, and ideas about race and capitalism that felt prescient in the '90s and are more relevant than ever now.
"The People Under The Stairs" has been overdue for a remake and it's only fitting that it's finally in the works courtesy of the new master of social commentary-filled thrillers, Jordan Peele. Peele's production company Monkeypaw is at work on an update to Craven's original, and while there's still a lot we don't know about "The People Under the Stairs," we're creeping into the shadows to bring you all the details we can on this fresh take on a very freaky story. Here's everything we know so far.

Jordan Peele is producing a remake of Wes Craven’s horror, The People Under The Stairs – and following a few years of quiet, the project now has a writer.
We seem to be writing this a lot of late, but here’s an update on a project that has been quiet for some time. Jordan Peele’s planned remake of Wes Craven’s 1991 social horror, The People Under The Stairs looks to be moving forwards with a writer finally been announced. We first heard that Peele would be working with Universal once again to bring Craven’s cult classic back to life all the way back in 2020.
We wondered back in March of this year if the project had fallen by the wayside somewhere, but happily, that doesn’t seem to be the case. That said, it’s likely to be some way off still, considering Doom Patrol writer Ezra Claytan Daniels...

Ezra Claytan Daniels has been hired to pen a remake of Wes Craven’s “The People Under the Stairs” for Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw and Universal, The Wrap has learned.
The scribe behind genre-centric streaming shows like “Doom Patrol” and “Night Sky” and comics like “Upgrade Soul” will pen a remake of the 1991 original horror flick, which has accumulated a cult following since then both due to its quality and its ahead-of-its-time social topicality.
Written and directed by Craven, the original “The People Under the Stairs” concerned a young Black child (Brandon Adams) who breaks into the home of his family’s greedy landlords. Spoilers for the unaware, but he discovers incestuous adult siblings keeping young boys captive under the stairs of their large house.

Things at Warner Bros. Discovery are unstable right now, as their recent shelving of "Coyote Vs. Acme" for the quick boost of a tax write-off shows. As a result, Steve Yockey ("The Flight Attendant") might be breathing a sigh of relief that his series, "Dead Boy Detectives," was shopped around to Netflix.
The series is a DC Comics property, however, according to the Hollywood Reporter, but didn't fit with James Gunn and Peter Safran's new plans at DC Studios. Originally intended to be a spin-off of the Max original series "Doom Patrol," it will instead be set in the same universe as Netflix's "The Sandman," the live-action adaptation of Neil Gaiman's acclaimed Vertigo comic. The Dead Boy Detectives, Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine, first appeared in "The Sandman" issue #25. True to their name, they're a pair of dead boys who decided to stay on Earth investigating crimes instead of leaving for the afterlife.

DC Comics drama “Dead Boy Detectives” has officially moved from Max to Netflix, and Netflix unveiled the first official teaser for the series.
In a first look at the Greg Berlanti-produced series, George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri star as dead teenagers Edwin Payne and Charles Rowlan. Not only are Edwin and Charles best friends who met following their deaths, they are also business partners running the Dead Boy Detective Agency.
“We are the Dead Boy Detective Agency — he’s the brains and I’m the brawn,” Revri’s Charles says in the teaser, referring to Edwin. “We’re ghosts and we solve mysteries.”
“We’re pretty bang-on detectives, when we’re not hiding from death,” one of the detectives adds.

Netflix has offered up the first peeks at its upcoming Dead Boy Detectives series.
The show, based on the Vertigo comics by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner, stars George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri as Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland, best friends — and ghosts — who help solve paranormal cases in the mortal realm.
At Netflix, Dead Boy Detectives will be part of the Sandman universe (the characters were introduced in Gaiman’s Sandman comics in the early 1990s) — but the series took a winding road to get there. It was initially developed for Max as part of the streamer’s former plans for its DC Universe, with Edwin and Charles making an appearance (although played by different actors) in season three of Doom Patrol.

This article contains spoilers for Doom Patrol season 4 episode 12.
After four seasons, the fan-favorite DC Comics superhero series Doom Patrol has come to an end, signaling the end of an era for superhero programming on Max. The final season saw the misfit superhero team talk on multiple apocalyptic threats while continuing to find their humanity amidst their respectively monstrous transformations. In typical Doom Patrol fashion, this superhero action and emotional introspection is punctuated with raunchy, irreverent humor, even a full-on musical episode before the end credits roll on the series finale.
Here is how the Doom Patrol series finale resolves its final battle, leaves each of its main characters, and provides the Max original series with a surprisingly emotional send-off, both triumphant and thoroughly bittersweet by the end.

Everything about Doom Patrol Season 4 Episode 12 holds true to the style and messaging of the series.
For a run of forty-six episodes that time traveled, invaded the Afterlife, and rewrote reality multiple times, it is a surprisingly cohesive series that manages to maintain its focus on the team, its members, and the lessons they learn as they strive to be the heroes they never asked to be.
Cliff would call it f*ckin' corny, but it's genuinely hard to say goodbye to this ragtag misfit bunch of bad luck bags. And yet, letting them each find their peace feels incredibly right.
Of course, they have to get past Immortus/Isabel and the Butts, and, in typical Doomie fashion, the most absurd solution proves the key.
What does an egomaniacal spotlight hog like Isabel Feathers need? An ensemble chorus of choreography-obsessed theater-kid Butts, of course!
While it's unlikely anyone could've predicted the Shipoopy/Possibilities mash-up number,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Doom Patrol series finale.] Well, that seemed like a definite ending to Doom Patrol… for some of the characters, at least. The Max Original ended with Cliff (Brendan Fraser) dying, Rita (April Bowlby) in the afterlife, Larry (Matt Bomer) and Rama (Sendhil Ramamurthy) becoming the new sun (as the penultimate episode teased), Jane (Diane Guerrero) figuring things out and the entire underground now existing all at once as Kay as she joins Casey (Madeline Zima) in traveling in the spaceship, Vic (Joivan Wade) Cyborg 2.0 and helping Deric (Elijah Rashad Reed) with his class, and Rouge (Michelle Gomez) burning down the Ant Farm. Showrunner Jeremy Carver takes us inside the finale below. When we spoke about the musical episode, you said that this finale is the end of a chapter. So at what point in the series did you realize you wanted this chapter to end with the Doom Patrol going...

As the series nears its final curtain call, Doom Patrol Season 4 Episode 11 examines and addresses the team's individual challenges while pulling some top-shelf time travel shenanigans.
The most satisfying element is Jane's reunion with the alt personas of the Underground and Kay. Jane's last session ever with Niles even connects a few dots that have been drifting in space since the first season.
The return of Timothy Dalton as Niles Caulder, aka The Chief, is the most obvious signpost that this truly is the end. His scenes throughout the team's Time Stream adventures provide a lot of closure. It's just too bad Dorothy couldn't have been part of that.
Predictably, looking for Immortus's longevity skin tag without having to contend with Immortus involves dealing with Niles in various phases of his life.
Cliff gets to tangle with the earliest version of The Chief, and it's a doozy of an encounter.
