"Binge" is a 2018 live action short film that runs for 10 minutes and is the most recent filmmaking credit by writer and director Kevin Rios, who has been pretty prolific in making short films in the last five years or so. You could say that this one here is a bit of a tribute to the successful television show "13 Reasons Why". But it is not just a fan movie, but actually includes actors Boe and Flynn from said show, which probably makes it a much more interesting watch for everybody who likes the aforementioned series. I personally haven't seen it (yet), so maybe this is partially a reason why this short film didn't do too much for me. But there are also other difficulties. I will get to these in a minute. It is basically about two identical twins, doesn't really matter and they could just be best friends too, who are crazy for a television series and its male lead actor and at the same time they seem to neglect everything and everybody around them. Okay premise, nothing too great. But things do get a bit weird when this actor really enters the girls' lives. Or especially the life of one girl and it did not only feel unrealistic, but also many questions arise that the film does not answer. For example why is the other sister apparently not one bit jealous. Or what is with this bizarre scene when we see hand reaching out of a screen almost like in a horror movie, even if genre-wise it was probably rather thought to be sci-fi and/or fantasy. But clearly the film (with its shoddy editing and sub-par writing) tried to be far more than it eventually become. Kinda disappointing. Tough for me to say anything positive beyond the twin actresses being pretty attractive. I would have expected better quality from Rios given the fact he is far from a rookie by now. But the outcome here gets a thumbs-down from me. Not on failure level, but also not good enough for a positive recommendation. Watch something else instead.
