Everyone’s favorite comedian, Gabriel Iglesias, is best known for poking fun at himself about his weight and his hilarious observations on everyday life. Starting all the way back in 1997, Iglesias has since gone on to produce and star in various films and TV shows like Mr. Iglesias and Magic Mike Xxl. He’s also performed his comedy routines in sold-out arenas and even has his very own stand-up specials on Netflix. If you’ve seen any of Iglesias’ comedy specials, you’ll know that his routines are mostly filled with stories about his family, his dog, and, of course, his infamous lowrider.

Comedian Jo Koy kicked off Sunday’s Golden Globes ceremony with a monologue that made fun of Ozempic use, railed about Oppenheimer‘s length and featured Meryl Streep performing the Wakanda salute.
Sound uneven? That’s how it came across to viewers watching the CBS/Paramount+ simulcast at home, and perhaps also in the room. “Yo, I got the gig 10 days ago,” Koy told the crowd when one joke didn’t get a huge laugh. “You want a perfect monologue? Shut up.”

Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias can remember the exact date and moment he made his stand-up comedy debut, even though it wasn’t planned. It was April 10, 1997, at the Golden Sails Hotel in his hometown of Long Beach, Calif. There was a bar with a stage that welcomed artists on a regular basis, but that particular night the emcee failed to show up.
“My buddy said to me, ‘Dude, you always talk about wanting to do stand-up. Just get up there and emcee,’” Iglesias says.
The 20-year-old cellphone salesman resisted at first, but destiny would not be denied — eventually he jumped up and spoke for what he believes was three or four minutes, though Iglesias admits, “It felt like an eternity.”
But the crowd laughed. And Iglesias was hooked.
It would take some time for Iglesias to fully transform into his “Fluffy” persona, perhaps best exemplified by his broad smile, bold Hawaiian...

Cree Cicchino, Connor Kalopsis, Katy Mixon and Christopher Gorham have been cast in “Unplanned in Akron,” CBS’s teen-parenting comedy pilot from Schuyler Helford.
The series follows two teenagers navigating parenthood in the best way they know how. With a little help from their friends and parents, they’ll learn that mistakes in life don’t have to derail your life — that no matter what age you are, taking care of a child is no joke — but sometimes, you just have to laugh (or cry) your way through it.
Cicchino plays Brianna, who is sharp-witted, outspoken and unfiltered. She’s emotionally mature beyond her years because she basically grew up playing “mom” to her four younger siblings. Now, she has an 8-month-old of her own. She and Tyler have an unbreakable bond and find each other hilarious. Cicchino is known for starring in “And Just Like That,” “Mr. Iglesias” and “The Sleepover.

Set during the harsh and brutal but transformative era of the California Gold Rush, the book tells the story of real-life bandit Joaquin Murrieta, who was dubbed the ‘Robin Hood of the West’. It follows how Murrieta, a romantic, charismatic young Mexican who, overcome by fear that his beloved Rosita will be forced into an arranged marriage, persuades her to join him as he follows his brother Jesús to the California gold fields where they encounter prejudice, hatred, and explosive violence – transforming Joaquin from an honest, hardworking miner into a bandit and the very spirit of vengeance.
The team said the book blends historical facts with untold family stories from direct descendants of Murrieta.

The streamer canceled four shows on Friday:
Country Comfort, The Crew, Mr. Iglesias, and Bonding.
Country Comfort starred Katherine McPhee as a country singer named Bailey, who takes a job as a nanny for a cowboy and his five children.

“To her surprise, Bailey also gets the band she’s been missing in this musically talented family who help get her back on the road to stardom.”
The cast also includes Eddie Cibrian, Ricardo Hurtado (School of Rock), Jamie Martin Mann, Pyper Braun, Shiloh Verrico, and Griffin McIntyre.

Netflix has canceled four of its original comedy series but will proceed to develop other projects with three of the shows’ stars and creators.
A spokesperson for the streaming giant confirmed Friday that “Mr. Iglesias,” “The Crew,” “Country Comfort” and “Bonding” will not be returning.
Kevin James vehicle “The Crew,” and “Country Comfort,” starring Katherine McPhee and Eddie Cibrian, are both ending after one season. “Bonding,” created and directed by Rightor Doyle, is concluding after two seasons and “Mr. Iglesias,” toplined by Gabriel Iglesias will end with part three.
However, just because Netflix is discontinuing these series, it doesn’t mean they’re parting ways with the talent involved.
The streamer says they’ve closed a development deal with James to develop a single cam comedy series for him to produce and star in. They will also continue business with Iglesias, with the third in a series of stand-up specials slated to shoot this summer.

Actor-director Phill Lewis has decades of experience in the sitcom space, primarily focused on live-action comedy. This television season alone he has directed episodes of Netflix’s “Mr. Iglesias,” CBS’ “B Positive,” the “Punky Brewster” and “iCarly” continuation series, and the still-to-be-scheduled “Head of the Class” reboot. But, the Covid-19 pandemic gave this industry veteran a first: directing animation with “One Day at a Time’s” “The Politics Episode.”
How different was your process to prep for “The Politics Episode” than a live-action one?
The most important part was knowing the actors as well as I did. I think that really helped alleviate any stress going from live-action to animation because I knew what their wheelhouse was. My live-action system is getting the scripts, reading through and figuring out blocking before the table read so that when I’m standing in front of the actors I’m able to say,...
