I'm Barry Allen and the writers don't know what to do with me
felixbambam8 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Scenes that don't fit and the fact that Nora is still around and is able to run past Barry just stuns me; the writers are so careless sometimes. I'm Barry Allen and I'm gonna let villains escape constantly and get passed by my daughter (who should've been sent back to the future ages ago). These among other problems underscore the good parts of the episode.

Decent episode
sebasmoraleschang8 May 2019
I liked the episode, it was enjoyable, but the new Cicada actress is possibly the worst actress of all time, i mean, what the hell were those "rage screams"?

Not bad but could've been better Warning: Spoilers
On it's own this episode was pretty good, but it's placement in the season makes it not so. For a second to last episode it was pretty weak, but it wasn't terrible. The thing is the writers don't know how to write characters. Nora telling her parents that she's an adult and can make her own decisions, yet she still acts like a 12 year old. And when Ralph was figuring out Thawne's plan, everyone just ignored him, which they wouldn't have done if it was anyone else. Also, Cicada has to be the worst villain the flash has seen so far. Every time they battle s(he) just flies away. I sometime laugh because the writers can think of any other way for Cicada to escape. Like I said before this episode was entertaining enough to keep me watching, but as a second to last episode it was weak.

People seem to misunderstand the show
krish-thorcode8 May 2019
The flash is not about a speedster just solving problems. It's also about a family. The flash definitely is the fastest man; some expect him to outrun his daughter just because..why not? I think the relationship between a daughter and her parents is walked through really well in this episode as well. obviously there's enough action. Reverse flash's plan is finally revealed and it shows he's as manipulative as ever. Kudos!

Notbatman45878 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
First of all the episode's review Bigg ooof. The story continues as why Thawne sent Nora to destroy the dagger. Joe the Chief and seeing his struggles and that "ENOUGH". After that we get a reveal that Cicada has reached CCPD. Team Flash run their and engage into a fight Tense scenes as Cisco tries to disable the Atomizer. Cicada beats em all and then ohoho that epic reveal. Cicada's dagger was being used to dampen Thawne's power. Team Flash: Got rekt yet again by the genius Eobard Thawne.

Now I see some stupid people have rated this episode very low and I can tell really that they didn't watch the episode. Funny how obssesed they are; trynna bring this show down with the ratings

And I Thought The Thinker Was Bad
Anonnamus3 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
What is it with this season's villains and their over-the-top growly screaming? First was Original Cicada with his deep scratchy menacing voice which didn't so much as inspire fear of him as much as fear he was going to permanently damage his vocal cords and have to live the rest of his life as a mime. Then came Baby Cicada with her inhuman grunting and screaming tantrums that left us wondering if what she really needed was some Prozac and a little vacay.

  • I still don't understand why Cisco couldn't breach the entire thing to Earth 15. Why insist on separating the dagger? Open the breach and just kick the thing in. Put on some damn oven mitts or vibe blast the thing in. You obviously had your powers when you breached there.

  • I love Killer Frost. Love her. But can someone tell her that it's possible to make icicles longer so there is no need to be sitting on a villain's lap to use it? It's easier to stab someone when you can keep out of their arms lengths.

  • I understand BC is unconscious, but I would have thought having a showdown at CCPD headquarters would mean easy access to some power-dampening cuffs. I mean, do they not remember her lassoing them and holding them against a wall? That wasn't the dagger. They used those cuffs against Barry and Oliver at one point, so it's not like they were having a crisis of conscience.

  • When did Ralph become a force of brainpower? Make up your mind as to what you want him to be, writers. Personally, I like Ralph now much more than I ever did the entire previous season.

  • Nora wants to help. Her parents don't want her to because they want her to be safe. Same old tired argument in every episode. Kill Nora off. Please. Take her mother with her.

  • Hey. Sherloque. I realize you are a busy man, but you could have taken ten minutes to cross the breach with Renee and at least introduce her to whomever is supposed to help her. It's not like she just traveled to another town. She's on a completely different earth. Be a gentleman.

  • Between all the shows I watch, I have now seen post-death Eobard Thawne as many times as I have seen any other supporting character in the Arrowverse. Somewhere in the world the actor who played Eddie Thawne is shaking his fist, wondering why he had to die when his descendent just keeps showing up all over the place.

I love this show and considered it in my top 2 at one point, but I have been sorely disappointed the last couple of seasons, mainly when they made Iris the major character after The Flash and pretty much neutered Cisco. I won't stop watching because five seasons in, I'm committed, but I don't look forward to it like I used to. I think Tom Cavanagh is the best thing to happen to this show, so I'm looking forward to another showdown between Reverse Flash and The Flash. Unlike the first season, this time I'm not completely sure who I'm going to root for.

Master plans
paultapner19 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The bad: this show really needs a moratorium on time travel. It once again gets itself into far too much knots.

Cicada 2: all these powered people struggle against a woman with two daggers.

Work: whilst it's nice to see Captain Singh again he doesn't ask why does barry never show up for work anymore?

We're trying to protect you Nora I don't like it arguments. I know it's what parents do but it's getting so repetitive.

Metahuman cure: suddenly lots of people have the metagene. And never seemed to have done anything with it.

Off to another earth; Sherloq's lady likes him so much she steps through a portal to another universe with no idea what waits on the other side.

STAR labs: Caitlin and cisco can as ever just say technobabble and it solves problems.

The good:

Visuals: great visuals once again

Fight scene: very well done.

Ralph: Ralph the detective. As he should be.

Sherloq: still a solid character.

Thawne: great villainy.

So more watchable than expected. But a season that started looking like being the best since the first has lost its way somewhat. Need a bit of a rethink next year.

Very weak for the second last episode
breathedirt8 May 2019
For the second last episode it was simply weak. There is one scene that was actually really funny - it's when Nora says "I'm an adult capable of making my own decisions." I hope she goes back to the future after this season. For me, only the first two seasons were really good. Since then it's gone down the hill and the last three seasons offered only a limited number of good and watchable episodes or scenes. I see crybabies here rating this 10/10. It seems that some people cannot stand negative criticism and have to give or pay others to give the highest ratings which to a normal reasonable person is an obvious fake act. Grow up.

Like lightning through a vortex, so are the days of our lives
crsportsguy10 May 2019
It seems every single episode is a carbon copy of the other. There's always a failed attempt to get the villain, and there's always a parenting conundrum that requires a 15 minute family moment.

This is episode 21/22, Nora has been there the whole season. Last episode she was running with villains, she's been in all sorts of danger all year and we still get her parents saying "it's not safe, we want to protect you?" Honestly, Iris must have taken Barry to the vet to get neutered because he is not a man anymore. I guess that's what made the episodes after the reveal so refreshing. Barry was making decisions on his own without consulting Iris and it actually looked like for once they had internal problems. But she roped him back in and put a stop to that. Every episode I watch makes me wish Savitar had really killed her. Throw in the fact that anything Ralph or Sherloque suggest is laughed at by the team.

Aside from that this episode was okay, from an action standpoint, again a carbon copy......villain escapes, internal debate, big emotional family moment, another villain confrontation, slightly more success, get em next week.

One of the least rated among all penultimate episodes
asb_deutsch31 August 2019
I have kept track of all penultimate episodes from Season 1 to 5. Here are my ratings: Rogue Air: 10/10 Invincible: 9/10 Infantino Street 10/10 Think Fast: 7/10 The Girl with the Red Lightning: 6.5/10 Had it not been for the Reverse Flash, I would have rated it even more lower. Nora is getting irritable in every episode. Cicada 2.0 is just a feminist super-villain and she needs to improve her acting skills. Even the powers she unleashed were quite generic. The writers need to go to the basics again. This episode: 6.5/10

Seeing Red, take 2.
jaythezoomster18 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
"The Girl With the Red Lightning" doesn't feel like much special. There's nothing inherently bad with the episode but there's nothing extremely great until the tail end. It's yet another episode where Cicada hunts metas down and Team Flash decides to put them all in one place for her to show up to.

Speaking of, Cicada's hallucinations of Orlin are solid but do't ever really go anywhere so it kinda drags the episode down a bit. I love Orlin but here he's just kind of doing nothing but encouraging Grace.

The episode shines when it focuses on Sherloque and Rene, though. I think these two are extremely cute together and I wish they'd had a bigger part. I also really liked Ralph's plot and how it lead into the final 10 minutes of this episode which I do really like.

The ending fight with Grace is pretty damn good and I love how Ralph came together with everything. It's a pretty solid cliffhanger that in the end redeemed the episode.

Overall, "The Girl With the Red Lightning" isn't the best thing to lead into the Season 5 finale but it's not the worst penultimate episode the show has (that would go to Season 2's "Invincible"). With all that said, the episode is still a fun enough time. Now...on to the big showdown.

Irritating Nora
brendan-0835218 May 2019
It is a real struggle to watch this show along with Arrow, both shows are really dull now. This episode though just highlights how annoying the Nora character is, she really doesn't add anything to the show and it would be a lot better without her.

Major disappointment
ctropeano-181778 May 2019
This is supposed to be the second last episode of the season and Almost nothing happened! What a disappointment! Also the synopsis for the finale of this season is, " Barry faces off with the reverse flash." So I thought the worst big bad, Cicada's storyline was gonna end this episode and the reverse flash was going to be the real main villain, but after seeing the promo for the finale it seems like cicada is still in it.... ugh what a disappointment

Ranking/Reviewing every Flash episode: Girl With Red Lightning
lbramson16 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The meta human cure is released publically, but Cicada is ready to kill. What a sad excuse for a penultimate episode! Penultimate episodes are usually really great, but not this one! Cicada is a terrible villain especially at the end of the season. She is at her worst in this episode in particular! I hate everything from acting to her writing. I don't care about the meta human cure, so this episode doesn't interest me in the slightest. And don't get me started on Sherloque's romance with his wife's doppelgänger. I couldn't care less, it rang so hollow and didn't hit me. We could be here all day talking about that. Just wow was this episode boring. I only liked the ending, but the rest is bland, boring, and filled with annoying mellow drama.

4/10-Bad👎
