John Michael Higgins grew up on game shows as a child, so to play a host on TV or movies and then helm actual ones of his own is never lost on him. The prolific actor has been a popular fixture on the Game Show Network in recent years starting with America Says, which ran for five seasons over more than 500 episodes. The show even earned him an Emmy nomination for “Outstanding Game Show Host.” From there, Higgins has gone on to host a throwback in Split Second, which is currently in the middle of its second season. Based on the format from the legendary Monty Hall, the game sees three contestants decide in a split second which of the three general interest trivia questions they can answer. The first player to buzz in gets the first pick with the last player left to answer whatever is left, which is often the most difficult.

Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Game Show Network was removed from the lineups of Dish Network’s satellite TV and Sling TV streaming services late Tuesday, after the parties failed to reach a renewal agreement.
“@dish and @Sling cancelled Game Show Network!” the network tweeted late Tuesday. “At Game Show Network we are working hard to make Game Show Network available to you again.” The tweet directed viewers to gameshownetwork.com/dish with information about how to contact Dish and switch providers.
In a statement, Game Show Network said it “tried to get a deal done with Dish, but after eight months of negotiations we could not agree to their demands.”

Sony has acquired AT&T’s 42% stake in Game Show Network in a transaction with a total value of $500 million.
After the deal, Sony will own 100% of the multimedia entertainment company, whose offerings are anchored by its namesake cable network, which airs original and classic game programming. Game Show Network channel will continue to be carried on AT&T’s DirecTV.
Mark Feldman will continue as president and CEO of Gsn.
Sony is positioning Gsn’s suite of game programming alongside its television unit’s established game properties such as Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune.
For AT&T, the deal furthers the company’s objective to pay down debt and generate cash from non-strategic assets. The telecom and media giant, still digesting its $81 billion acquisition of Time Warner, has sold off a range of assets from real estate to equipment while also completing a massive restructuring of Time Warner, now known as WarnerMedia.

“Jeopardy!” has won Best Game Show at the Daytime Emmys a remarkable 16 times, more than any other program in history. But host Alex Trebek has only won Best Game Show Host five times — an impressive total to be sure, but less than a third of the top prizes the show has won. Trebek also received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011, but it has been 11 years since his last competitive victory. Can he collect this prize for the first time since 2008?
Despite his relatively long drought, Trebek is the front-runner to win this year, according to the combined predictions of hundreds of Gold Derby users. He gets leading odds of 3/1 with overwhelming support from our Top 24 Users, who got the highest scores predicting last year’s winners, and our All-Star Top 24, who had the best prediction scores when you combine the last two years’ results.
