The series begins with a recitation of Isaac Azimov's Three Laws of Robotics:
First Law: A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
Second Law: A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
Third Law: A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws
This is from Azimov's 1942 short story "Runaround". In 1950 this was included in his short story collection entitled I, Robot. These laws inspired the film I, Robot (2004). Other than the three laws, neither the film not this series have much in common with the original short story, but both focus on a flaw in the three laws.
