The food that was served during the dinner scene came from real gardens on Hilltop's set and included yellow squash, zucchini, tomatoes, corn and peppers.
Executive Producer Denise M. Huth sees Henry (Matt Lintz) joining Hilltop as the "apocalyptic version of going off to college." She says, "He couldn't wait to get there, but it turned out to be harder than he thought to be in a new place with new people."
The bedpan Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) had to pick up was actually full. Inside was water and plastic dog poop, which the prop team got from a novelty shop.
The crew wore glow sticks while filming in the cemetery so they could see each other through the fog.
It was not easy to get the meditation bowl to make the right sound. At first, Seth Gilliam (Father Gabriel) was only able to create the sound during rehearsals.
