Kaala, the brand-new Disney+ Hotstar special, is created and directed by Bejoy Nambiar, who is known for presenting out-of-the-box stories from the crime drama and action thriller genres. Hawala, in layman terms, is the money that is transferred without actually physically moving it. The name Bejoy Nambiar is enough to create a sense of intrigue in the viewer.
Kaala, which essentially means black, in the trailer of the show takes us through the underbelly of black money, money laundering, and the nexus around it. There is always an honest officer who is trying to do right by breaking up rackets in shows like this. Kaala is all about...

Although there’s nothing that really fits the bill when it comes to Michelle Buteau’s new rom-com series Survival Of The Thickest, we’ve tried to make a compilation of shows that may scratch that itch the show left behind. This show is witty, comedic, emotional, and inclusive, and even tackles serious issues in the perfect way, leaving no crumbs. It’s like watching a 30-something coming-of-age show about a plus-size black woman trying to make it big in the looming fashion industry. Michelle is especially charismatic, even as she plays a loud and often clumsy protagonist. It’s an endearing quality, unlike some similar leads who come across as obnoxious and living in a fairy tale. While Netflix alone brings us a smorgasbord of shows that fit this category of “period time” cravings with romance, fashion, and all things cozy, they’re usually hit or miss. So let...

Jee Karda, the brand-new Prime Video original by Arunima Sharma, Hussain Dalal, and Abbas Dalal, might have had its flaws, but it got the vibe of a large friend group being there for each other right. There are tensions, awkwardness, brutal honesty, and love that are shared in abundance between the eight of them, and one feels content to watch the makers effortlessly present their chemistry. We have had many shows in the past that paved the way for this genre called friendship/romance drama, and here is a comparative list of why these shows need to be watched on a lazy weekend to just put a smile on your face.

Just like her character Damini Roy from ‘Four More Shots Please!’, actress Sayani Gupta always speaks her mind. She agrees, though, that it can backfire sometimes. Sayani in a conversation said: “It always backfires but that’s not the point. You say something because it bothers you and you feel like you need to lend your voice to it.”
“You pick and choose your battles but you don’t shy away from speaking your mind for injustice so that is something I have lived by all my life,” she added.
Sayani agrees that she is under more scrutiny as she is an actor.

Four More Shots, Please! Season 3(Amazon Prime)
Directed by Joyeeta Patpatia
Unalloyed fun… the sassy quartet is back with a bang. Many bangs, actually, considering the predominance of carnal activities. No harm in that. Anjana(Kirti Kulhari), Siddhi(Maanvi Gagroo), Umang(Bani J), and Damini(Sayani Gupta) have a healthy appetite for the good things in life, including sex. They are not apologetic about their hedonism, or afraid to fall flat on their face when their heels can’t balance their drinks.
What to do? Sometimes, no , make that very often times, things don’t go according to plan. Of the four characters Siddhi is the most adroitly etched. She is a rich spoilt brat and she makes no bones about it. There is a marginally captivating subplot about Siddhi’s lately-widowed mother and her…errrr… golden vagina. Every middle aged man in the neighbourhood wants to woo her.And her golden spot.

Alia Bhatt bags the late Smita Patil memorial award and wishes have been pouring ever since. Amongst the pile of congratulatory messages, the most special one has come across from the ‘Chhichhore’ film actor Prateik Babbar, son of the late Smita Patil.
Prateik Babbar, who will soon be seen in Four More Shots Please Season 3, says, “Congratulations to Alia Bhatt. Absolutely well deserved. There is no one more deserving than her. Alia bhatt in our generation of hindi cinema is what my mother was in her generation, uncomparable.”
Veteran Smita Patil brought a whole new meaning to Indian cinema back in her time. While actors find it difficult to fit into a bracket of choosing the right scripts, Smita Patil was the epitome of doing both experimental and conventional films. Her contribution to Indian Cinema has been immense.
Alia Bhatt’s father Mahesh Bhatt has also once said about the similarities that Alia carries.

Kirti Kulhari, who has been part of many Ott projects including "The Girl On The Train" and "Four More Shots Please", says that Ott has changed the way showbiz works. She says that for an Ott project, a big name may garner buzz initially but after that it's just the content that matters.
"If you are claiming to make content-oriented stuff, then you have to have people who do justice to it. Ott is a space where initial attraction might happen due to a popular face but at the end of it, your name is not enough. I want to see something real and valuable if I am giving my five hours to a show on Ott. Good performance is what works at the end. Mumbai, March 15 (Ians) Kirti Kulhari feels if an actor doesnt want to be stereotyped in similar roles, then he or she should be ready to refuse projects.
"You are as responsible for being typecast as the person who is typecasting you. You have to make choices that are different and learn to say no. It is not easy to say no but if you don't, you cannot complain. If you stand up for the roles you want to do, you will break out of that mould eventually," she told Ians.
Kirti has made her mark with diverse roles in series such as "Four More Shots Please!", and "Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors" as well as films such as "The Girl On The Train" and "Uri: The Surgical Strike". She says no matter the platform, typecasting happens everywhere, but she has a strict policy of never picking up similar characters.

Actress Maanvi Gagroo says her opinion on Ott censorship has changed over the years. While she was wholly against the idea till a while back, she now feels some sort of a regulation is necessary, though it need not be censorship.
"Earlier I was against censorship and I thought there should be self-censorship. If I am an adult and I am 18-plus, I should be able to watch whatever I want. Ott is not like television that you switch it on and whatever comes on, you will have to watch it. There are many steps of filtration in Ott -- like downloading, subscribing and choosing content," Maanvi tells.
However, something did change her mind subsequently.
"Now I feel when anything becomes popular and the numbers start increasing, you have to bring some sort of regulation so that nothing is exploited. Regulation does not necessarily mean censorship. Regulation means you keep an eye on certification,...

Mumbai, Jan 28 (Ians) Maanvi Gagroo returns as Sidhi in the third season of the popular web series Four More Shots Please. She says the success of the story happened because a large section of the audience felt represented on screen.
"Till now we had not seen such characters on screen, but it doesn't mean that they don't exist in real life. Of course, these are slightly dramatised versions but these things happen. There are women who drink and party, make their own money, and make mistakes. They live life on their own terms. They are regular people trying to lead life on their terms. I don't think the purpose of this show is to change any mindset. I think a huge section of the audience felt that they got represented. The minute you see something like that, you feel confident about your choices. However, in terms of...

MollywoodWe are still at a stage where even a woman suggesting foreplay to her husband is considered something radical in Malayalam cinema.Neelima MenonIn the middle of a heated argument between a married couple in the recently released short film, Freedom at Midnight, when the wife asks the husband whether he is aware of her “favourite sex position,” it suddenly seemed like a ray of hope. Did that mean our cinema had finally come out of its self-imposed exile around addressing women’s sexual agency/ female desire in their narratives? Are we finally tackling the elephant in the room? But, that ostensible show of liberation turned out to be a delusion as the narrative soon drifts into a usual plot line around a wife who finds out her husband’s extramarital affair and therefore has such a dramatic confrontation. But disappointingly, it turns out that the whole confrontation was imagined...
